Here's the thing though, it isn't the NBA hall of fame, it's the basketball HOF, so you have to consider college and olympics as well. 11/2/2013 3:01:48 PM |

Their perimeter defense is really awful. Harden, Lin, and Beverly are all below average defenders and Dwight Howard is no longer the rim protector he was 5 years ago and can't make up for deficiencies at the guard positions.
I still think they're top 4 in the west, but they need to figure out the defense. 11/8/2013 8:36:43 AM |

it's happening. Anthony Davis is ascending.
Quote : | "Coming into this game, Davis was averaging four blocks per game, with a block percentage of 10. When you dig deeper, the numbers only get more absurd. According to SportVU, before last night’s game, opposing players only attempt five shots a game at the rim against Davis, converting only 20 percent of those attempts. In other words, dudes aren’t even trying Davis at the rim, and when they do, four out of five times it doesn’t work. Telescoping arms plus freak athletic mobility plus positioning equals brow domination. Davis finished with 18 points, nine rebounds, three steals, three blocks, and two assists" |

Yeah, he is already looking like he might be one of the best PFs in the game. He's got a hell of a lot of athletic ability and his offensive game is evolving. His defense was a known quantity and it was just a question of how long until his offense got there. I don't think many people thought it would be year 2. 11/9/2013 4:17:12 PM |

Can we stop for a minute and talk about how good Lebron is this year? He's shooting 60% as a wing. Think about that for a minute.
He's just having an insanely efficient season thus far and is clearly the league MVP right now.
Oh, and are we really looking at another potential Miami vs. SA finals? I like Indiana, but I'm just afraid that they aren't there yet.

Is he really a wing anymore, though? He goes harder in the paint than Juaquin Malphurs. Obviously still extremely impressive, but he's more of a 4 than a 3 at this point. 12/4/2013 2:47:10 PM |

The heat need to worry about Indiana. their front bigs can score, sharp defense, the roster is deeper, Paul George is an All Star, and they got rid of their duds. Miami still gets hurt on the inside and everyone and their grandma out rebounds them
my biggest shock is how garbage are the Brooklyn nets are playing. 12/4/2013 3:28:24 PM |
Kurtis636 All American 14984 Posts user info edit post |
^^ I still think of him more as a 3 because of how much he handles the ball and the fact that he doesn't really post up the way a traditional 4 does. I mean, he can and will, but that's not his primary game. Most of his scoring in the paint is still off of the drive or off of cuts, not from his post up game.
Oh, and what's really scary is how good he's gotten from 3. It's not fair for him to shoot 50% from distance the way he is right now. When he squares up on a 3 now you pretty much know it's going in.

As a miami fan, i'm definitely concerned about playing against Indiana.
Really our strength against them will be the ability to combine low post presence (I think they are saving Oden for this) and perimeter shooting to counteract their defense. Hibbert and West really put up a number on Miami during the last playoff series which will only grow with Paul George emerging as a superstar.
IMO it will all come down to the consistency of Miami's bench being able to produce, putting a huge crutch on Ray Allen (not worried about this guy, he's a clutch shooter), Norris Cole (emerging star PG) and Battier.
Losing Mike Miller kinda sucked, but with the addition of Michael Beasley as an efficient scorer, it could be a serious series which will inevitably come to be.

Beasley could be huge for Miami. If he can come in and be a legit scoring threat and play defense on Indiana's 4 it means that Lebron doesn't have to bang around in the post much. He'll lock up George (who is just having a huge break out year and looks like the best forward in the NBA not named James or Durant) and that shifts the rest of the offensive load to West, Hibbert, and Stephenson. I'm guessing Miami is ok with the idea that those guys have to beat them. 12/5/2013 11:00:20 PM |

Assuming Lebron stays in God mode, Miami's success always has and will continue to depend on D Wade being D Wade. I wouldn't be surprised to see him fizzle completely this year. 12/6/2013 2:08:56 AM |
