Defensive intensity was definitely not there in the second half, our D has not been consistently terrible like last year though, coaching will make or break this young team. There's talent, so if they don't get better as the season goes on, the staff needs to be held responsible.

We lost that game in the 1st half when we blew that big lead. We keep that lead in the 12-14 point range going into the 2nd half and our dicks don't shrivel up.

And Gott needs to keep Lewis in for longer than 2 minutes if Barber is going to play like shit. Lewis plays knowing that his first turnover or missed shot is going to cause him to get yanked. I almost wish Barber would get the flu and be out for a game or two just so Lewis wouldn't play like a scared little bitch. I get that Barber brings some crazy good things to the table...but our offense has the tendency to stagnate quite often. An aggressive Lewis (but not too aggressive like Cat tends to get) has run our offense to perfection in the past.

And I didn't know Turner was a retarded ball-handler. Fuck...that guy was a walking turnover.

when lewis started we never had a chance against cincy and lost to fucking nc central. at least with cat we start off hot and compete before ultimately collapsing. lewis isn't missing shots because he "needs to play minutes to get in a groove." he's missing shots because he sucks.

if cat keeps shooting 20% we'll do something about it. that something isn't playing lewis more

^^^^^ yes. And for all the shit the gets talked about Lewis, I've never seen him lose his man in transition
as bad as cat did in this game, leading to wide open shots. There were two or three in a row in the second half.

Also vandy had regressed to the mean. He doesn't need to play anymore.

Barber is almost too reliant on his speed and usually turns on the jets before actually thinking what he wants to do

the talent is obviously there, but I'd love it if he calmed down a bit.

at least Lewis is a proven commodity when it comes to assists:turnovers, it's just a complete confidence issue with him right now

We have the talent to be a very good team. I've always been a big Gott supporter but issues like poor decision making, turnovers, and taking contested/forced shots can be coached.

Warren is definitely gone and Lewis will likely transfer (Cat is better but depth is nice) and I'm not sure about Coach Lutz's contract but if we lost him I think we'd see a major drop off, especially on defense.

We started to look like a relatively decent team when Cat started to be a legit #2 scoring option to Warren. Today Warren forced shots and turned the ball over, Cat played terrible (losing his man in transition, missing open shots, unforced TO's, etc.) and that took the entire offense out of rhythm.

For all of the things I like about Gott, being able to motivate a team to give a shit about playing defense (especially when things are going rough on the offensive end as they were today after the first 8-10 minutes) is not something I've seen once out of his teams outside of the Sweet 16 run. The minute we stopped hitting shots and they got a few to go down early in the 2nd half, we flat out gave up on the defensive end.

I really just don't get how we're so bad on defense. I get we're young and don't have great leadership on the court, but we've got plenty of athleticism and quickness. We play hard for the most part too. Just can't seem to stop teams when they get on a roll. Don't understand.

Yeah ... I get that. Gott has some shortcomings on defense, but I honestly don't know what the root of the problem is. Is it the scheme we play? Bad help defense? Bad fundamentals? Lack of effort?

As a fan, I'll take good offense over good defense all day -- and Gott definitely knows how to coach offense. But the consistently crappy defense is getting really old.

how come nobody is talking about our place (or lack there of) in the new acc. playing in the atlantic division for football means that we are forever stuck behind perenial national contenders. 3 juggernaut games each year means no shot at a conference title unless we are national title good. even clemson is in a bad situation and they are elite.

in basketball its almost as bad with 4 hall of fame coaches at the top we'll never get the bye. our good years will mean we'd be competing with nd pitt uva fsu and miami type teams in the middle of the pack.

Whats the point of being in a conference where you have no shot forever? we would be much better off in the other conference. I'm not saying it would make our teams better, but when they do get better, they would have a shot to do things.

^^I'm talking purely in terms of entertainment. Good offense is more fun to watch than good defense. This team is a lot more fun to watch than any of Herb's teams, which were always solid defensively.

I don't think anybody is saying Tyler should start...but the motherfucker averaged 15 and 6 against miami and duke last year...with one turnover. It's not like he can't play against the best competition. He's obviously in a funk right now. We wouldn't need him if Cat was ballin...but Cat has played like dog shit against our last two good teams. It would be nice if we could have Tyler come in and play some quality minutes if Cat is having a bad game.

Unfortunately, I just don't think he can hang with most ACC PG's on defense. Add in the shooting funk he's in, and he's been pretty worthless out there. Sucks, because he's awesome to watch when he's in a groove.

Seems Lewis has to play extended minutes and get in a groove to be any good. You either have to play him big minutes or hardly any at all it seems.
