Looks like almost the entire ACC has either overrated recruiting classes or they have underperforming players.
2/4/2015 2:27:41 PM
it's mostly bad coachingacc talent performs very well in the nfl
2/4/2015 4:45:52 PM
Is that chart current? Look at NIU. So they are they positioned there due to very good coaching?
2/4/2015 5:41:45 PM
After seeing how LSU talent performed in the NFL this year, I think you could move them halfway down the chart.
2/4/2015 5:59:38 PM
According to the chart, UNC performed about 33% or 20 ranks better than we did. There is only slightly less distance between us and UNC as there is between UNC and FSU. The chart is incredibly deceptive.Oh, and the chart only has 11 teams in it's top 20 team performance rank. Something is wrong here.Even if the chart was accurate, we're not that far off the line. ~50th recruiting class, ~60th in performance. Could be worse, such as call having ~25th recruiting class, ~55th performance.Boise St and NIU are just ridiculous. There's also a team at 115/55 with an N but I don't know who that is. Maybe Navy? It's not Nevada, Northwestern, or Nebraska. Navy usually has a star with it but I don't see them anywhere else.
2/4/2015 6:28:02 PM
yes that's navy
2/4/2015 6:40:49 PM
yeah Deadspin put out that chart towards the beginning of this past season so it's (somewhat) dated
2/4/2015 9:40:19 PM
Ok I see, only 11 teams averaged a top 20 ranking over 5 years. That makes more sense, and makes me feel better about national parity.
2/5/2015 3:10:29 AM
you're looking at the wrong dimension. UCLA is straddling the line for #20 in recruiting, so there are ~17 schools that have averaged top 20 or better over that stretch
2/5/2015 8:10:34 AM
no, he's right, 11 teams for a top 20 team ranking
2/5/2015 9:22:41 AM
I find it really weird that UNC has averaged a top 25 recruiting class. Their football team pretty much doesn't exist on the national scale. I also don't like that they did relatively better at recruiting than us this year. They only had 3 and 4* recruits, whereas we had plenty of 2* and below.
2/5/2015 1:55:24 PM
It's UNC, the place sells itself to kids who don't know any better. I wouldn't be concerned about their recruiting classes to be honest, they've shown time after time that they can't do shit with them. I'll take our staff coaching up our 2* guys over their 3*'s in a couple of years.
2/5/2015 1:59:32 PM
^^According to Rivals, out of our 22 committments, 7 are 2*s (there are none below). One of those is a long-snapper, and the other is QB Jakobi Meyers, which from all accounts seems to be better than a 2*, and was receiving interest from Florida(and not to be a conspircay theorist, but I wonder how many of those recruits got their third star after committing to UNC)[Edited on February 5, 2015 at 2:46 PM. ^^^^ no, you're not reading the chart right either. the X axis is recruiting rank, the Y axis is on-field rank. there are about 17 teams that averaged a top 20 recruiting class vs. 11 that averaged a top 20 on-field performance.there's a table at the end of the original article that has the yearly recruiting rankings and average: http://regressing.deadspin.com/chart-which-ncaa-football-teams-outplay-their-recruit-1640831522

^^^And you're not reading my comments right.

ah, my bad. I didn't even see that comment, just the one you posted after I quoted the recruiting stuff in the article, so I assumed you meant recruiting (probably also because I was on a one-track mind with NSD yesterday). glad that everyone's chart-reading skills are better than my actual reading comprehension skills.

interesting odds for upcoming ACC season. Kinda surprised we're supposed to be the 7th best team:
2/13/2015 7:47:43 PM
seems about right based on who's above and below us.
2/13/2015 8:01:44 PM
Cole blankenship no longer with the team
2/19/2015 12:21:03 AM
I wonder what happened there? He enrolled early in 2013
2/19/2015 10:18:17 AM
supposedly quitting football to focus on school
2/19/2015 12:32:51 PM
Everytime I hear something like ^ I wonder if it was really something bad but the team wanted the player to leave with dignity. Not saying that's what happened in this case, but I'm sure it happens all the time.
2/19/2015 2:14:17 PM
I don't think it's been posted in here yet, but the second article in the Reggie Gallaspy series on GoPack included his spring routine:

Damn, and I thought I was busy...

I know I would never have been able to do it when I was 18. Hell, i barely paid attention to school as it was and thats all I had to do.

UNC fans will flame us for it, but I like it. It flies perfectly in the face of UNC and their cheating ways and wine and cheese alumni and students.Should have put an asterisk by UNC for more effect.[Edited on February 26, 2015 at 9:57 PM. Reason : c.f.]

They are the university OF the people (that you probably couldn't get into)
2/26/2015 10:21:27 PM
^They're also a "Public Ivy" so shit gets kinda confusing over there.I took a class there recently specifically on how to get your attention, and it has not worked thus far. So yeah, they suck big time.

according to espn, we're the 40th best coaching job in college football
2/27/2015 11:59:23 AM
Not bad. But I have seen that in high school. It's all how you apply it. A DE has to be EXPLOSIVE. Manny Lawson for example or Willie Young. Those guys were freaks who probably didn't max out very high.I like the team's nickname of Freak though....
2/27/2015 12:03:28 PM
^^^ that's pretty ridiculous[Edited on February 27, 2015 at 12:04 PM. Reason : snoiw]
2/27/2015 12:03:51 PM
We added 2 pretty big DEs in the last 2 years with Street and Roseboro. Both are more run-stopping than pass-rushers, but then you have guys like McKever that are more of your pass-rush specialists. Nice mixture to give us options in game-planning.
2/27/2015 12:07:34 PM
per this weird new blog (https://packstateofgrind.wordpress.com/) that the team is doing:
