Grest race so far. Top 7 was within 1.5 seconds of each other a few minutes ago. And that was after like 40 laps of a run 4/26/2015 2:00:48 PM |

hmmmm, I could have gotten up early, drove 3 hours, battled traffic, got baked in the sun and watched this in person. Or I do what I did, got up early, worked out, took a long nap, and woke up in time to see the final 75 laps.
Now I'll think long and hard about renewing my seats for the last race to make the chase.

Quote : | "Gluck: NASCAR has embraced the elimination concept with the Chase, so why not use it in the All-Star Race? Since officials expanded the field, it would be even easier to wave goodbye to those who lag behind at the end of each segment.
Let's say there are 20 drivers who start the race. At the end of each segment, cut four; that would leave a final four heading into the shootout.
Four drivers on the track for 10 laps? It might look funny, but only the front two rows on a restart have a realistic shot of winning anyway.
To mix things up more, make the pit stop between the fourth and fifth segments optional. That way, the leaders would want to stay out for clean air – and third and fourth place might come get fresh tires. The aero advantage would be somewhat negated.
That would increase the chances of a pass for the lead, and the end of the race would only be contested by the best of the best." |

that sounds like a good idea. That means it'll never happen.
Who you guys got in the two showdown segments? I really think Truex will win one of them. Hes been the only guy on the entire entry list that has shown a Top 5-10 car consistently throughout the season. The other spot is a toss up. Bowyer, Larson, Biffle, Elliott...take your pick 5/15/2015 8:50:54 AM |

well, the two best cars won the showdown segments. Bowyer and Biffle. Danica wins the fan vote of course, so she'll be in the all star race as well. Chase Elliott started 11th in first segment and finished 8th. Started 12th in second segment and finished 5th.
truck race ending was magnificent. Kahne beats jones by .005 seconds as they battled side by side for the final 2 laps. 5/16/2015 7:35:35 AM |

all-star race was bleh. No passing. Tires don't mean anything. its all about track position and clean air. I hate this style of racing. I wish Brian France would listen to the damn drivers, but he sucks ass so he won't. Harvick and Kurt Busch had the field covered yet they can't catch and pass cars in the lead that take 2 tires? Give me a break.
Also, Hamlin jumped the restart by atleast 2-3 car lengths. 5/17/2015 8:07:44 AM |

its not the tracks, its the cars. If they'd let some air travel under these cars again and keep them from being plastered to the track like an Indy car it would bring some racing ability back to the series. As it stands, they're playing follow the leader. 110 laps last night and there was 1 pass for the lead under green flag laps. 5/17/2015 12:13:30 PM |

The thing about the tires falling off a lot is that is a fine line, Goodyear does not want and can't afford another fiasco like the brickyard a few years ago. Softer tire with the amount of camber they put in these cars can be a bad combo. Like the idea but there will have to be some changes or rule restrictions on things the teams can do. 5/20/2015 11:51:18 PM |

there's falloff and there's outright tire wear. You can design a tire to lose grip characteristics while not chewing itself to death. You can design tires with a harder rubber below the surface so the first 1/16th or whatever is nice and soft on the inside but gets harder and you'll lose grip without getting into a shredded tire like at Indy. 5/21/2015 10:50:25 AM |

Coke 600 became a fuel mileage race. Edwards saves enough to win. Earnhardt Jr. finishes 3rd. Chase Elliott finishes 18th...first car 1 lap down. Ran times as fast as cars in the Top 10 for most of the race. 5/25/2015 9:30:22 AM |

i know fuel strategy is part of it all, but i really hate seeing the best car lose in a fuel mileage race. wish they hadn't shrunk the gas tanks. the fuel strategy thing used to come into play a lot less often. 5/25/2015 10:01:40 AM |

yea. Its part of these things though. Sometimes its better to be lucky than good. All it took was for someone to mess up and bring a caution out and he prolly finishes outside the Top 10. Look at Chase Elliott in the xfinity race last weekend. He was 1/2 a lap from winning the race and a caution came out. Still ended up finishing 2nd, but it works both ways. Chase just so happened to have the fastest car that day as well, but to win races you've gotta have some luck fall your way. 5/25/2015 10:51:16 AM |

It's run by Robby Gordon and is pretty much a recreation of the Mickey Thompson Series from ~25 years ago that used to run in stadiums on purpose-built dirt courses similar to what Supercross does now.
Watched the Toronto street race yesterday and Toronto is normally not a good race because it's so tight it's a crashfest and cautions breed cautions. Plus they had to deal with the rain. But that was probably the best Toronto race I've ever seen with clean racing dealing with the wet, Josef Newgarden of Nashville, Tennessee won, and the commentary of Paul Tracy and Steve Matchett from F1 coverage (who a driver catching the car if it breaks loose sideways drives him close to orgasm) was excellent. Tracy was on with Townsend Bell at Texas the week before and him and Bell did such a great job explaining car setup and how it affected speed and race strategy during the race (under the guise of a bet between the two of them on which one would win out). It's something that definitely gets lost in Fox's NASCAR coverage because your side analysts like Waltrip are too busy acting a gimmick.

New rules package sounds stupid, I anticipate 43 cars in line sliding around, still unable to pass but going slower.
What I don't understand is why not have a test a day early and go out and run some 25-50 lap heat races and see how the package does. No one wants to pay $100+ a ticket to see a test (race).
