Seeing some legit papers (like the telegraph) throwing some Spurs set to surpass Arsenal articles out there again with the stadium news. Their stadium looks pretty nice and I agree with Ribs about the NFL deal being fantastic. But we've all seen this before. My personal favorite:

Spurs fans don't think that. Gotta finish above them at least a couple times before anybody can even mention it.

Good on Michael Owen and RvP to leave their dead end clubs and earn titles with United.

not mine. he hung around for like 3 seasons and got injured a lot, and never consistently approached his best days at Arsenal.

if he's a legend, what do you call Paul Scholes/David Beckham? super-legends? Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole have left far larger footprints at Man U, and they ain't legends.

not legend in the sense of a club legend. Legend in the sense that I really like him and wish him the best. Like one of the cool kids you knew in college and every time he/she was over it would be a great night/weekend.

Always loved him at Arsenal and thought as an out an out striker he was the best in the premier league. I still maintain had RVP and Eduardo stayed fit that year, Arsenal really would have won the title over United in 08 or 09. Forget what year now. Arsenal were in it all the way up till March/April and then Eduardo got that nasty injury and they collapsed without a striker.

PS: I def consider Yorke and Cole club legends (especially Cole, he had over 200 apps I believe). That 99 season is something else. Every match towards the end was a nail biter. Some insanely ridiculous come backs against the likes of Bayern, Arsenal, Juve (with Zidane & Nedved), and Barcelona.

yeah the bit about Cole and Yorke was slightly questionable, I suppose. still, again, if we call them "legends," then what do we call Giggs/Scholes/Beckham? I just feel like certain strong words ("legend," "genius," etc.) get thrown around too often.

Quote :

okay I can kinda see "legend" being used in this sense. but I still think it's misleading to apply the word to RVP's career at Man U in any real sense.

Steven Gerrard is a legend at Liverpool. that's the proper use of the term.

I mean if Cantona is a legend then Yorke and Cole most def. are.

Beckham, Scholes, Neville, Giggs, Best, Charlton, Law, Irwin, Robson, Ronaldo, Rooney, Keane, Pallister, Rio, Scholes, and Sparky are the definition of club legends but I don't think that takes away from Cole, Sheringham, Solsjkaer, Vidic, Yorke, Cantona, Bruce, Ruud and Stam in anyway.

Shit I would put Sparky at the lowest of lows on the club legend list because of how much of a twat he is as a manager.

Ruud is by far my personal favorite though. Without Ruud I probably wouldn't have been a United fan.

of course Cantona is a legend. But I think it's absurd to argue that Yorke and Cole are somehow in his class, and therefore also legends.

lol. Cole has had more appearances and goals to his name. In fact Cole was the reason United won a title when Cantona got hurt at the back end of the season. Cantona gets the spoils because he was a charasmatic character and could turn the game on its head. Cole and Yorke formed one of the most deadliest partnerships in Europe and England and have a treble to show for it. I would say if anyone considers Cantona a legend then Cole and Yorke most def have to be in that list.

I'm okay with listing "Cole and Yorke" among the legends, as long as they appear as a unit.

^^ But c'mon, wazza, there's no individual comparison between Cole and Cantona. Eric Cantona was the hub and catalyst of Manchester United's return to greatness. They hadn't won the league in 30 years, and then Cantona joins the team and they win the league 80% of the years when he's there. He was the captain, he always produced the goods when they were needed, and as you say, he could turn a game on its head.

I find the Cole/Sheringham feud really interesting. It must have been odd to form a profitable strike-partnership with somebody and still hate their guts.

lol I would love Ramos, not going to happen though. LVG at the PC made it seem like James Wilson is going to play a big role next year. Really really hope we go in with Rooney, Wilson, and Januzaj at Striker. Also seems like LVG expects Depay to play there too. Wouldn't mind this at all.

Hope Wilson can take his chances next year.

I don't understand why he would want to take that step down.

Bayern is definitely going to be right there for another Champion's League title and they've got a much better manager in Munich. I guess he just needed a change after all those years.

Rumors are he didn't get on with Pep. Also can't play at same time as Xabi Alonso, who Pep preferred. United is in CL and is one of few who can offer increased wages. It makes them better but he is pushing 31 and has already shown signs of decline. Interested to see how he fares in a more grueling league. He makes them much more dangerous in Europe though.

United fans, one in particular, are completely delusional if they don't think they are going to spunk an absolute shit ton on a striker. Can't play an unproven kid with what they have invested in.

With what they have spent the last two seasons and will continue to do this summer its gotta be title or sacking for LVG. No excuses now.

Scheinerdlin, Schweinsteiger, and Darmian = £51.4 million.

Sterling = £49 million.

Amazing weekend. Extremely happy with the people we have signed. Get us a CB like Otamendi and we are done. 4 signings and I believe United still have about £44 million to spend before evening out the amount of money Adidas will give them for the new kit deal this season. Lets get a center half Ed Woodward!

A complete midfield reshuffle:

-------------- Valdes --------------
Darmian - Rojo - Smalling - Shaw
----------- Schneiderlin -----------
----- Schweinsteiger - Herrera ----
-- Mata ------------------ Depay --
------------- Rooney --------------

Bench:
GK
Carrick
Di Maria/Januzaj/Young
Valencia/Blind
Jones
Fellaini
Wilson

Periera, McNair, Blackett, and Lingard to rotate.

They have obviously made good signings and will compete for the trophy if the new players get on together. And have moved into the class of Bayern, Barca and Real in terms of financial clout. I'm not even mad since its self sustainable. They've earned it.

Still think it's funny that he can't admit that for some reason though.

they'd better the hell start sustaining it pretty soon in some emphatic way, or I feel like it's going to start drying up

it just seems like you can only ride your previous reputation for so long.

also, I haven't looked at the numbers, but it's not clear to me that Man U have more financial clout than City or Chelsea, say. and they're certainly not in Madrid, Barca or Bayern's class in terms of ability/reputation these days.

Are you kidding me? Look at the revenue we generate? Even after paying for the debt those Glazers got in. Of course we are self sustainable. We were always a big spending club, even in the 80s. To augment our youth policy of course

if you suck dick for a long period of time, you'll cease generating so much revenue

(here, "suck dick" means "fail to win the league" and "fail to perform well in the Champions League")

the bandwagon fans will begin to abandon you, and take their dollars elsewhere. I'm not saying it's going to happen, but if you begin to establish a consistent record of mediocrity, your finances will start to reflect that, methinks.
