Innings 2-5: deGrom has only given up one walk and one hit...it's just unfortunate that one hit went over the wall.

If the ball goes out of play anywhere else (thrown into the dugout, for example), then a runner is allowed to take one extra base from where he's already headed. Why is that not the rule here? Especially since it rolled into the ivy, not hit into it.

^I'm pretty sure I mistakingly refered to him as Doug Murphy in the TWW mets thread his first season

Thank goodness Wright's bat has come alive this game. He wasn't doing too bad OBP because of his walks, but if he's hot you have a pretty tough 1-4 lineup to deal with

Great game deGrom. Like I said that first inning was nothing like LA. His fastball location was off but his offspeed pitches were electric all night.

RIP Cubs and Back to the Future prediction

Mets are playing amazing baseball right now. Should be a great WS against the Royals.

BttF predicted a Cubs sweep ending on Oct 21, 2015. They still can be involved in a sweep on the same day

Familia should get some NLCS MVP consideration. He has been so clutch. Murphy will get it for sure, but I hope he gets a look.

Oh well just hoping at this point they can manage a win tonight to avoid being swept out of a series yet again to end the year. Mets pitching + Murphy has been all they really needed. Cubs should have a few years of contending hopefully they can get the WS title one of those years.

The Cubs need another big time starting pitcher and maybe 1-2 power arms in the pen. Their lineup should be stout for the foreseeable future and they have a great manager and front office.

The NL looks setup to dominate baseball with the Mets ridiculous pitching, the Cards setup well with their relatively young team/arms, Pirates are still young, Dodgers are the new Yankees, and the Giants are a semi-dynasty winning every other year.

The AL has the Royals, maybe the Astros, and a bunch of other teams that seem to have major flaws. The Blue Jays offense was historically great this season, but pitching wins in the postseason (usually).

Crazy thing is Mets get Wheeler back next year and he was lights out second half of last year. Last 15 starts gave up more than two runs only twice. Probably the second most talented pitcher they have (in terms of pure stuff).

Forgot about Wheeler - hot damn what a 1-5. Honestly if the Mets win the WS this year, they are going to make Smoltz look like a damn genius with what he said comparing this group to the Braves big four (Avery included) back in the early 90s.

Don't forget that Syndergaard and Matz will be a year wiser, plus Logan Verrett with his 0.88 WHIP and 1.74 BAA. Wheeler will just be the icing on the cake.

I would be fine to see Harvey traded for a bat to replace Cespedes.

Maddon basically gives zero fucks at this point. Left his reliever in to hit (yes he's ok for a pitcher at .182) and then replaced him immediately. What?

I'm pumped about a Mets Royals WS. Just need KC to take care of business against Price Friday night and not waste time on a game 7.

KC definitely doesn't have the pitching to match up. The guys they have could dominate or completely shut the bed on any given day. Might only have the edge defensively, don't feel great about it but they are a good team just the way they seem to clutch up. Probably be a lot of low scoring, good games, but it's hard to not take the Mets pitching

These have been the best 2 teams at not giving up and getting clutch hitting when it matters most. Should provide great late-inning dramatics.

This should be a great series if the Royals SP can keep the games close. Mets have a significant advantage with their ridiculous rotation. The Royals have the better pen though and the lineups are fairly even. Royals are great defensively, but the Mets just strike everyone out so that is a push too. Ill be happy for either team that wins.

I wish the Mets would win in 5 so they can celebrate at home, but realistically I think this goes to the Mets in 6.

Don't know how this series will play out, it's very evenly matched.

I will say this though, I think KC wins game one today. Can't believe the Mets are starting Harvey in game 1. I almost guarantee that the Royals will get to him in the first 3 innings and crack him which hopefully sets us up to force early bullpen work. If we can basically force the starters to pitch 7+ innings we can take the series in 6 or 7.

Harvey and deGrom were going to be the road pitchers no matter what, the order is kind of arbitrary.

I don't know about that one. I think I'd much rather have deGrom as a potential short rest game 7 starter than Harvey.

I really feel like of all the NYM pitchers Harvey is the most fastball reliant and the Royals absolutely feast on fastballs. they don't strike out, they put tons of stuff into play, and they kill fastballs, particularaly fastballs away.

I'm just having a really hard time understanding why you would start your #2 game in the first game of the WS.

No Mets pitcher is starting three games no matter what happens. They have the depth to be able to do that. Harvey would only pitch in relief in a potential game 7...

Really, you think down 0-3 they would still run out Matz?

I mean, I know it's unlikely and even under ideal circumstances your game 1 starter would probably only give you 3-4 innings if they also had to throw in game 4 and maybe again in a deciding game 7, but why wouldn't you want to set yourself up to make that a possibility?

The Mets had the longer break, it's just odd. I haven't seen or heard a logical explanation for it.
