just seemed unnatural at how many field goals they were able to get. on top of how many contested shots in the paint they were able to sink. cringefest all around during their possessions. defensive breakdown all around for us.

I am not surprised at all and don't understand what people are expecting out of this year's team. Losing Lacey, Turner and KW were huge blows, and we have nobody except for unproven recruits and an unknown transfer to fill their shoes. This year is not gonna be easy.

I was at the game and I will say that our starting SG was injured from the start, a position for which we are really thin, and our best big man (Abu) was cramping up for the last 12 minutes. Neither Cat nor Rowan nor coach expected Rowan to have to play so much, so naturally they ran a lot of Wood-type plays and the defense was out of sync. Caleb's offense still hasn't caught up to his defense. Anya looks about the same. Freeman looked like the Freeman of the first half of last year. The biggest positive was Rowan, and we wouldn't have seen that if Henderson hadn't gotten hurt (granted we prob wouldn't have lost either).

I watched the exhibition game as well. In person. I paid particular attention to Rowan, especially on defense.

He is terrible at defense. You should watch him, you will notice it as well. He plays way, way off his man, routinely leaving them wide open for uncontested threes. If that doesn't happen, he gets beat off the dribble nearly every time.

It's rough. And it's part of why we gave up 51 first half points yesterday. When he's on the floor the other team scores.

People shit on Wood for his defense, but he wasn't terrible at it. He was limited because he was not a great athlete, but he didn't lag off shooters and give up wide ass open shots. He was also pretty good at help defense and really good at knowing where to be in transition and being in the right place in half court sets. He got beat when he had to guard insane athletes who were 3 steps quicker than him.

Rowan is obviously (after 2 games) much more gifted athletically than Wood, but he is atrocious on defense. Any positives he brings offensively right now are negated by how many points the other team gets when he's on the floor.
