Thinking about the 2 FSU games which never were.

Could have hurt if they swept us, but could have helped even more if we had a win or two against the #1 team. If anything, it just makes it harder to predict how the ACC tournament will go.

FSU and Miami tied now, but they play each other the last 3 games before the tournament. Should be a fantastic series to keep an eye on.

Clempson (3 games this Fri, Sat Sun) 27-15 (10-13) (unranked), split with FSU but play them again tonight

Louisville (3 games next Fri, Sat Sun) 35-9 (14-7), ranked 9th (D1 Baseball Poll) and won all 4 this week (FIU and St Johns)

UNCheat (3 games the next Thurs, Fri, Sat) 28-15 (9-12), no weekend series but beat UNCW & Campbell over the weekend

State's starting pitching has really improved as the year has gone on. Williamson has been great since getting more looks once ACC play began, and Wilder has been significantly less.....wild....over his last few starts.

Not a big fan of Avent continuing to go to DeJuneas in high leverage situations like he did in a tie game in the 9th yesterday given his control issues, but I guess that'll happen until they feel comfortable leaning on Gilbert again after the minor injury he had against GT.

Need to just keep winning series. State's definitely capable of taking at least 2 from Clemson & UNC, but getting just one at Louisville would be nice.

D1 baseball has us as a regional host but only the 12 overall, so still a long way from a national seed. Predict ECU, CCU & UNCG in our region fwiw

Saw where Baseball America has us as a host as well & has ECU/UNCG in it as well but substitutes Michigan State for CCU and has CCU as a Host

State controls their own destiny as far as being a national seed is concerned. As it stands now, the team would really have to get beaten down over the final 3 series to not be selected as a regional host, but with games against good RPI teams in Clemson, Louisville and in Raleigh against UNC, they can dramatically improve their chances at a top 8 seed with a good record over these last 9 games.

With how the team is playing now, I'd say 2/3 at Clemson, 1/3 at Louisville and 2/3 vs. Carolina is definitely possible and if they could end going 5-4 in those games they'd at least have a shot at a national seed.

Lost game 3, and the series, 2-1 to Clemson.

State had a lead off double in the 9th, with the game tied 1-1, Avent called for a bunt that didn't work, and State failed to score. He also brought in DeJuneas, who still has lots of issues with control, and he promptly loaded the bases with 1 out in the 9th before Clemson walked off.

He pulled Williamson who was straight dealin. He had some type of twinge in his forearm, shook it off, got checked by the staff, faced 2 more batters (both outs) and Avent brought in DeJuneas with 2 outs in 8th. Questionable decision, ultimately he tried to make sure Williamson was ok for the long haul and it cost us a game.

Gilbert came in to relieve DeJuneas in the 9th and was wild AF. Glad to see him back on the mound though.

Rethinking it, we won't end up in the same pool as both Louisville AND FSU/Miami unless we drop to #6. Our potential pool if the rest of the standings stay the same:

If we finish 3rd: FSU, GT, either Clemson or BC
If we finish 4th or 5th: Miami, UVA, either Wake or ND

to be fair, they left Williamson in and he threw nothing but off-speed stuff to the next batter. Getting him out of the game was the best move in the long run. Gilbert was wild but the damage was already done. DeJuneas blew it again.

yes, yes i could. No doubt he was absolutely pissed to come out. I'm sure with the adrenaline pumping he felt well enough to keep going. But you never know what the next pitch could have done.

I just think Foxhall has to find another late inning "closer". It's two years worth of evidence that DeJuneas is not the guy in these pressure situations.
