Ah man. Finally got this shit working on my phone (iPhone 4S lol. Old and slow) but it crashed all the time. Someone put a lure on a pokestop outside my building. A freaking Ivysaur showed up and I threw four balls at it (which it popped back out of) before my phone crashed.

Sidenote: Hoverboards are perfect for this game.

My first 10k egg hatched and I got an aerodactyl, but it was only CP 97.

Lunch today I got my first Bulbasaur (297), Drowzee, Cubone, and a Mankey. I mentioned to the group that was the first time I'd seen a Mankey right as a group of ladies walked by who were obviously playing as well as one girl was rocking dual phones, and they all giggled at me.

I can confirm biking at a normal speed is NOT too fast for it to register.

I'm rolling around at about 5mph though. And my phone doesn't have a pedometer function, so if its reporting purely on GPS speed then I'm golden.

did you pay attention to the app at all? I opened it on my run last night and after I got a couple miles and took a break I saw the app was still running but it hadn't kept up with my location at all.

is there any word on if they're getting more servers (I imagine they have to be right?) and if there will be a substantial update anytime soon? I also expect they'll add more social features

I could hear the pokestops coming into and out of range and the pokemen spawning, so it was tracking me. Also there is nothing at all on the Manhattan bridge if anyone's wondering

We just rolled up to my mother-in-law's house in Beaufort, outside of the town limits, place is a desert as far as stops and gyms go. nothing.

In 15 minutes we caught a pikachu and a tentacool, and there's some big splotchy shadow still chilling out there somewhere, I don't know what. Not a fucking rattata in sight. Hatched a ponyta from a 5km.

Gonna check front street tomorrow morning.

was over at ft. lauderdale beach this evening and it was pretty much stereotypical. 80% magikarp. However, it's definitely the place to go for dratini's. found 3 dratini and 2 dragonair in about an hour.

wasted a good 30 mins trying to track down a tentacruel though but stumbled across a kabuto. another wartortle shadow appeared and then disappeared almost immediately

FYI if you decide to power evolve using a lucky egg, when you get close to leveling up, exit the Pokemon screen between evolutions. I lost like 5-10 minutes to discover that once I got past my level it would error out on Evolves until you go out and accept the level up.

Change the name of your Eevee to "Rainer" and it will guarantee a Vaporeon when it evolves.

^^ So the "Rainer, Pyro, Sparky" evolution works? (more consistent than the Body Slam, Swift, Dig evolution theory?)

Anyone notice that Vaporeon seems to get a ton more CP than the other evolutions? Friend was a higher level and we both had fairly equal Eevees, and he evolved up to a Jolteon at about CP 700, I evolved my Vaporeon up to about CP 990.

So I upgraded an Eevee to a Flareon at CP 550.
Went up 1 level.
Upgraded an Eevee to a Vaporeon at CP 990.

I'm not complaining, just wondering if anyone else has seen this pattern. Really hoping I can manage to evolve the next one to a Jolteon just to complete the set.

yeah I have to Volteons and they're lower level than my friend's Vaporeon when all else was pretty much equal.

Has anyone tried the iphone on a record player thing for hatching eggs?

I see Vaporeons everywhere defending gyms. Seems like I should just get a Jolteon since they are effective against water types.

Kinda wish I hadn't sold my old Roomba a few years ago. I could just lay my phone on top of it and set it to work to hatch eggs!

Vaporeon seems to be more powerful. I've tried using Electric type pokemon within +/-100 CP of a Vaporeon and Vaporeon still wrecks them pretty hard (harder than any pokemon with an elemental disadvantage should).

I wish my Vaporeon (~1540CP) had Hydropump, but the Aqua Tail isn't bad. I've invested too much into her at this point to swap out for another Pokemon.

It most definitely is. That day I took a 10 minute walk for lunch and without really going out of my way at all I came back with like 70 balls (among other things) and almost fully leveled up from 10 to 12. Was just commenting that there is nothing on the bridge at all

The tracking bug is really getting frustrating. Saw a snorlax near my apt but none of us could find him.

I basically stopped looking at the "Nearby" list, it seems to be crap unless something is 1 print away.

I had one that was 3 prints, started walking, it went to 2, kept walking, back to 3, so I started going back the other direction, back to 2, went a different direction, back to 3, etc. The thing never went down no matter which direction I went. After that I just stopped trying that angle and just started going to popular areas and picking from the herds of them that appeared.

A lot of the evolution depends on the max CP for your critter. If you look at the screen for the specific Pokemon, there is a halo which shows how close it is to the max. If you evolve something which is already close to max, it will not have a lot of room to grow. Is that maybe what is happening?

I caught a 440 Eevee yesterday, and its CP bar was pretty low. I needed a guy to fight with in Gyms (never did it before) because I was super stuffed on potions and revives. I evolved it and it turned into a ~1200 Vaporeon. Definitely wrecking in gyms, though Jolteon would probably have been ideal since most gyms are guarded by flying or water types. He does wreck gyms, though, so I cannot complain.

Max threshold increases as you level up as a trainer.

Definitely feels like the best use of time and resources is to just power level your trainer as fast as you can and dont waste any dust or candy until you are at least like level 15. Basically catch a shit ton of pidgeys, pop an egg and evolve them all this got me from level like 7 or 8 to level 14 pretty quickly. Now I am saving up again and will do that one more time then see where I stand and decide where to start throwing dust and candy.

Does the base CP of the pokemon you want to evolve have an impact on the resulting CP or is it more my current level?

Like I have a CP 14 Eevee and am now level 12. Would it be a waste to evolve it? (I don't have the candy to anyways, more of a theoretical question)

You should be looking at the position of the dot on the bar. I wont evolve anything less than 80-90 percent.

make sure you get pokeballs from stops as you level. it gets much harder to catch pokemon at the higher levels.

Razz berry, great balls, and ultra balls will become your friends. I'm at that point where I toss a good portion of my pokeballs to keep room for the great balls/ultra balls.

Just looked and realized I only have 7 pokeballs left down from like 100 . Once you get higher level you start getting items other than balls so you cant replenish quite as fast. Guess I need to either pony up some money or find some time to go hit some stops for an hour or two.

OK what do the rustling leaves mean? And don't tell me it means there's a Pokemon there because I have been right damn on top of them and walked around all over and around them and nothing happens

As best I can tell all it really means is that there are pokemon in the area when you see the leaves. Where as at my house you never see any leaves ever.

Depending on where you are, you can hit a lot of pokestops in not a lot of real world time.

Raleigh Down Town, NCSU, and cemeteries are some places that come to mind. I really only recommend the first two suggestions, as I'm not keen on loitering around cemeteries.

Yeah the biggest problem right now is fuck walking around for an hour in this 95 degree heat and by the time it cools down I dont feel like going out haha. Once temps start to drop off a little there is a good place to stop on the way home and get out and walk around for an hour and get a ton of stops.

From what I've read, the rustling leaves mean there is a higher chance of pokemon near that area. I haven't found any actual real world evidence to support this though. When I've seen them I've run around all over the place nearby and found nothing.

A tip:

For anything with two evolutions, don't evolve until you have enough candies to get it to its final evolution. A lot of times youll find something better.

And wait until the low 20s if you have the patience.
