so good news, TWW won't have a problem paying its bills for a while at least now. thanks to everybody who contributed their thoughts in the thread and especially to those who signed up for premie. in the interest of full transparency I don't strictly need any more people to sign up for premie for the site to survive in 2018, but hey you should do it anyways b/c you all love TWW so much

I bought a premie. Somehow I've been enjoying all of the benefits of it for years even though it says it expired sometime in 2012. I know somebody offered to get me one a few years ago during the heyday of the Africa thread, but no way that should still be active.

Anyway... It is still my belief that we'll be revisiting this issue next year and maybe the year after that until finally the inevitable happens, but I intend to be here until the bitter end.

It looks a bog standard asp.net/mssql application, maybe even built on web forms

Probably could be ported to .net core without huge problems (and opening up a range of hosting options)

This is all just a guess though based on behavior and error pages.

Just saw this and haven't had time to read through the whole thread but I really hate to see this die. I probably spend as much time on this site as any other site on the web.

I'm already premie so I can't do any more there but am willing to contribute more where I can. Maybe have a gold premie option at a higher price for those that want to contribute more. We can have our user name in gold or some other little way to signify our gold membership. Doesn't have to be gold either, you get the idea.

I'd like TWW to stick around and am willing to toss a few extra bucks over to keep this place alive. I've been premie for years. Maybe I should post here more often too. Cheaper hosting sounds like it will have the biggest effect on the site's continued life.

I mean I guess it doesn't matter, if qntm owns the place, it's his to do as he pleases, and our choice to pay for premie or not, but there really hasn't been any transparency here. And I'm certainly ok with him getting more money than it costs to host it because I'm sure it takes a good bit of time to keep it running. Somebody's got to fix something when we get that "Oh Shit" error. But no talk of numbers has been had. It would just be nice to know how much it actually costs to keep this place going. I see that Tranquil hosting's cheapest plan is like 140/month. That seems like a lot to me, but I don't host anything (although I work in the industry behind the scene) so I don't know squat about costing.

I suggested this in the poll but would it help decrease our data limits or whatever (I don't know how these costs work) if we dropped all of the sections except Chit Chat, Sports Talk, and maybe Lounge, along with their respective thread history? I feel like some sections (Study Hall, Premium Palace, Feedback Forum) hardly get used the other sections' topics could all fall into one of the others (Entertainment, Garage, Tech, etc.). Do we really care about the historic threads in there? I feel like all of the *gems* came from Chit Chat or sometimes the Lounge anyway. Plus, having less sections will make active threads easier to find (as I was told when pushing for a Food Forum a while back, and it makes sense).

Just a thought.
