As much as I hate to say it, gg to the Cards. Truly one of the top-5 organizations overall within the 4 major sports. It is amazing how they seem to always have unknown players stepping up in the postseason. Go NL...

Wacha, Rosenthal, Miller, Adams, Kelly, Craig.....the Cardinals scouts have to be among the best.
Adams was almost a complete unknown. Looking forward to the Series! Hopefully some 2004 payback.

should have mad more out of the 1st inning, but it was good to jump on an early lead
no jinx, but both the infield defense and Kelly's pitching are looking solid 10/26/2013 9:19:21 PM |

man we're stranding runners in scoring position over and over again. this game could very easily be 5-1 or something. Of course, we could have easily done worse than giving up 1 a couple of innings ago, too.
but yeah, kelly is looking brutal on the mound. throwing good curveballs for strikes, sometimes unexpectedly. i can't believe how much movement he gets on that tailing fastball, too.

Yeah that was a totally clear-cut call. I don't see what there is to argue about.
It wasn't necessarily intentional, but it was most certainly obstruction. It's sort of a crappy way to win, but them's the breaks. 10/27/2013 1:35:54 PM |

I'm not sure he put his legs up on purpose, but by putting them up he certainly didn't make an effort to give the runner a clear path. 10/27/2013 1:59:24 PM |
spencer All American 3640 Posts user info edit post |
they would/should have called obstruction even if he didn't put his legs up. not real sure why red sox fans are upset as craig would have easily made it (even on his bum foot) had middlebrooks not been on the ground. this exact play is even cited in the rulebook to explain obstruction:
Quote : | "For example: an infielder dives at a ground ball and the ball passes him and he continues to lie on the ground and delays the progress of the runner, he very likely has obstructed the runner." |

why the fuck is MLB going to "review the obstruction rule concerning intent"? Why the hell does intent matter? You kept the guy from advancing, whether you meant to or not. it's obstruction, he gets a free base.
Oh, maybe we care because it's the last out of a game... Why does that matter? If it were the first out, would you call it differently? 15th out, differently?
Winning run then, right? So, you can obstruct the winning run, but not others? What if it's the go ahead run in the top of the 4th and no more runs end up getting scored?
Well, that doesn't make sense, so maybe we care about intent. But what about other situations where intent doesn't matter, like a baserunner getting hit by a batted ball. Is that no longer an out because the runner didn't intend to get hit?
What about a hit batter? Pitcher didn't intend to hit the guy, so it's just a ball, right?
