i was reading on some lost message boards, people are saying the boat the black rock is a coal minning type of boat, thats why the dynamite was there and the black smoke is coming from the burngin coal. also people ask how do they have gas to run the boat and the bomb was gasoline, i guess thats from the boat as well.

All you people that didn't like the season finale because it didn't answer the BIG questions, cry me a fucking river. It was a great episode, and if you say you weren't totally into it until you realized it was other, then you're lying. We got plenty of answers... maybe not to the questions you wanted answered, but questions none the less.

And let's not forget that the raft being attacked leaving Sawyer unaccounted for and Walt a captive of the Sea Billies is a pretty intense cliffhanger.

i think the funniest line of the episode might have been Rosseau asking "are you on the same island i am?"

i predicted the raft would get hijacked last week

it really wasn't that big of a surprise

i mean i didn't know they were only going to take walt, but i knew the people on the boat weren't going to help the guys on the raft

what answers?

she named the kid aaron?
the hatch has a short ladder in it?
the black smoke was just a small coal box burning?

whoopdie-fucking-doo!!

"what answers?"

for starters....

The Others (assuming that's who was on the boat) are basically just normal people. Or if not, there is another group at work on the island.

Danielle is crazy.

The Others wanted Walt all along and not Claire's baby.

Jin was planning on running off with Sun.

Fate didn't want Hurley on that plane.

Locke considers Boone a scrifice to the island.

Michael was ready to give up on trying to be Walt's dad.

The comic book belonged to Hurley.

Locke knows who Hurley is.

Locke isn't quite as at peace with the island as he thought.

Hurley finds out about the numbers on the hatch.

Locke seems to blatatly disregard Hurley's warning.

The monster is definitely a machine or some sort of nanotech.

Ummm, no. The funniest line of the episode belongs to Hurley when he said,

"Hey Jack, you have some Arzt on you."

^^those are mostly things that happened, not "answers". (and a handful of things you listed we already knew)
the only ones I'd consider answers are:
The Others are basically just normal people
&
The comic book belonged to Hurley

and I dont think a lot of people were asking the second question

They're all answers. They're just not the answers to the questions you were asking.

to clarify, I think where they ended was fine. (raft cliffhanger and pan back of the ladder)
BUT they should've at least partially answered ONE of the "big questions" ('why did they crash there'? or 'what is the monster'?) Like someone said earlier, a season finale should feel like the end of a chapter.
Ideally, we would've seen -part- of the monster. A leg or something. Just enough to confirm whether it was mechanical or biological.

i don't think danielle is crazy
she said they wanted the boy right?

walt is much closer to breeding age
you can def mate a 12 y.o. boy and a 16 y.o. girl
Quote :

why?
isn't lost basically about not doing things the way a normal tv show would?
i mean, up until recently they've done a good job of not falling into the stereotypical tv drama hole
especially in terms of only using forward motion in the plots, and not finding cheap ways to recap what happened in the last 4 episodes

i can't imagine how short some programs on tv would be if they required the audience to A. pay attention and B. remember things

i think arrested development is the best show on tv as far as this is concerned

Why should the season finale have to do that? Who's making the rules? What makes LOST a good show is that they're doing things differently. They're breaking the rules.

It's basically a variation of the first season of ALIAS. Stories didn't end at the end of an episode. They ended at the beginning of the next episode.

Sure they could show us the monster, show us what's at the bottom of the ladder. But then everybody would spend the summer bitching about whether they liked that revelation or not. And those people that didn't, might not watch the show at all next season. As it stands, everyones going to be talking about what might be down there, what the monster really is. You have to figure that most people are going to at least watch the season premiere to get the answers. And if the Season Two premiere is good, people will keep watching. Basically, it's easier to quit watching a show between seasons than it is to quit during a season.

I can say "what will shannon wear this episode", that doesn't make "shannon was wearing a skit and jacket" an answer

It is an answer if there's some greater significance to why she's wearing that. I'm of the belief that almost everything they show us, everything that tell us is important. I don't believe that it's just a coincidence that the comic book belonged to Hurley. Or that Locke ignored Hurley's warning about the numbers. Or that he knows Hurley's first name is Hugo.

^^I agree that those are important things. When we find out why they are important then that is an answer
Although, about Locke ignoring Hurley's warning - I think he would've lit that fuse no matter who or what was telling him not to.

haha, ok. well i just went back and watched for when locke called Hurley by his first name
Hugo. but i don't know if that actually means he "knows who he is". he could have just seen the manifest or something.

i'm still not seeing the significance of the seating chart...if there is any

the only person he has told his name was "Hugo" was jack
and jack & locke don't exactly share secrets

yeah i still dont think its that big of a deal he knew his name was Hugo. I mean thats not really a common name and if you hear it once you'll probably remember it.

also, i think the look of surprise he gave was due to the fact that Locke asked him to carry the dynamite.

anyone else got any ideas on the seating chart? besides mr secret keeper

42 survivors?
23 is the date they would have landed
16 time they would have landed
15 flight number
8 hour they left
4 minute they left

also
the fact that this is in the south pacific, would that lead to the numbers being in reverse order for us
i.e., could it be counting down (the way i put it) since some asian languages read right to left?

^^ the thing with all that is that those are just coincidences. i would like to think that the numbers have some actual significance instead of them just being coincindental with an abnormally high number of things. i mean, who the fuck cares about numbers that just coincide with stuff? (like the guy turning kate in for $23,000). they should mean something, but i'm not holding my breath

umm maybe the numbers correspond to the rows or seats the people were sitting in...
that's just my speculation...but there are only 5 numbers...but we know more than one person was sitting in a particular row, etc...who knows

aha, KT i just read your post 2 pages earlier... I read that last night but didn't see who posted it... good theory! i like the HP reference

I don't think it was coincidental that those number were plastered all over the airport. Hurley was being told not to get on that flight. He didn't heed the warnings though.

someone just post the spoilers

the island is the essense of fate and dogma and and the numbers on the seats represent bad luck which is grudged by the mechanical raptor that lures people to the island to infect them with the whisper virus

For the site bartleby linked. If you click on a seat in a row that is one of the numbers a green seat will appear with someones name on it. If you click that stuff will pop up relating to that character and sometimes other passengers will show up.
