that entire season where we lost to akron was just unbelievable. Marcus Stone would go 1-8 in the first half with 9 yards passing and 30 yards rushing. Then 2nd half would be like 3-10 or something but we'd win with a ridiculous defense. Am i remembering it right?

^ that video was great. where are all the pay sites with video like that? wolfpack pigskin, FTW

I'm so glad I got deathly ill before the USF game

I can't imagine sitting out there with a terrible sinus infection getting pelted by rain and watching that miserable game

I was at that game with Motiak and company and brought a friend. Either I or the friend was sick already, and I decided to leave at half time because of that. Still the only game I've only left early from.

Great Interview from Willie Young. The guy sounds like a football scholar or something; alot of strategery in his interview. This is from some tarhole site btw.

Quote :
"This is your last year to cement your name in NC State legacy. When you hear Mario Williams and Manny Lawson and ends like that, guys who mentored you, and then you hear Willie Young, does that give you motivation?

A lot of motivation. It really tickles me just to hear my name in the same sentence as 'NFL potential' or 'NFL prospect.' Having watched those guys--I know what it takes to get up to that Mario Williams and Carl Reeves status--it takes 14-plus sacks. I think Mario set the record. I almost had that [game] record a few times: Carolina, Virginia. Virginia, I know I almost had it. It deflates the pass is what it does. The length of an eye lash is how much I missed somebody, and I must have hit him about five or six times.

I think Mario set it at four, four-and-a-half. I have been trying to get it ever since. If it is going to be done, it will be this year. When you have a productive offense, you are putting your opponent's offense in a situation where they have to throw the ball. We haven't been in that situation since Mario [was here]. Putting offenses in a situation where they have to throw the ball at the beginning of the third quarter, really, really tells you to pin your ears back and go get the quarterback. You know for a fact they aren't about to run the ball. When you increase the number of passes by 15-20, you increase your chances a lot. That's 10-15 more chances to set up the pass rush.

In the fourth quarter in previous years, you had to worry about play-action. You still had to worry about the run because the score is so close. You can't predict what the offense is about to do. Having them put points on the board and having the defense stop them in the first half. Most teams take their starters out in the fourth quarter. There is no point in leaving them in there and risking injury. Last year, we had a few games we did jump up and took out the seniors. Hopefully, this year we can get points on the board early on, put our opponents in a situation to do nothing but throw the ball, pin your ears back and go. That really has a lot to do with production.

Assuming you guys win your division, who would you pick to finish second?

It's hard to say. You are talking about the ACC. There are ups and downs all the way through the season. If I had to guess somebody I don't know who I would guess. I wouldn't even put ourselves in the first one or two right now--or third or fourth. I wouldn't even do it because I couldn't, just because of the caliber of the conference we are in. The ACC is the toughest conference, I feel.

How do you think the NC State program has changed since Coach O'Brien has been there?

I don't know. You hear this and you hear that. You hear that we weren't a disciplined team back when Chuck (Amato) was here and stuff like that. When I think, for the most part, what we were missing was a quarterback. You see the games--interceptions in the end zone, fumbles in the red zone. You can't win games like that; you can't do it. It wasn't that we didn't have a guy to get the job done. I just think there was a lack of focus. That was the biggest issue we had, a lack of focus.

The defense was there. Our defense was averaging, what, 60-some plays, 65, 70 plays a game? That is way above average. I think you average somewhere from 40-50 plays a game. I think that is a fairly (normal) number of plays in the course of a game. Well, you going 20 extra plays--I mean, that's a lot of banging going on. (Pause) It's different. We just have to practice hard, practice smart. I'll just say that."

What do you all think of playing "Wagon Wheel" by Old Crow Medicine Show in between the 3rd and 4th quarter instead of "Hey Baby"? The song is about a guy leaving the North where he feels out of place and isn't leading a good life, and him hitch hiking his way down to Raleigh to meet up with his girl and be back where he feels comfortable. I think it'd be great if everyone sang it and at the end everyone yelled "AND IF I DIE IN RALEIGH AT LEAST I WILL DIE FREE!"

I think pretty much anybody who hears that song loves that song -- very catchy, but very authentic at the same time. It'd be an interesting choice, but I'd support it.

Isn't the song (or at least part of it) a remake of an old Dylan tune?

Yes. Bob Dylan had some unreleased track commonly referred to as "Rock Me Baby" that was unfinished. Well one of the guys in the band wrote some lyrics around the chorus and performed it around the country from his late teens into his mid 20s before thinking about the legality of it. So he got together with Bob Dylan and worked on it with some revised lyrics and they are now listed as co-writers of the song.

Here's the lyrics

Headed down south to the land of the pines
And I'm thumbin' my way into North Caroline
Starin' up the road
And pray to God I see headlights

I made it down the coast in seventeen hours
Pickin' me a bouquet of dogwood flowers
And I'm a hopin' for Raleigh
I can see my baby tonight

So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me

Runnin' from the cold up in New England
I was born to be a fiddler in an old-time stringband
My baby plays the guitar
I pick a banjo now

Oh, the North country winters keep a gettin' me now
Lost my money playin' poker so I had to up and leave
But I ain't a turnin' back
To livin' that old life no more

So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me

Walkin' to the south out of Roanoke
I caught a trucker out of Philly
Had a nice long toke
But he's a headed west from the Cumberland Gap
To Johnson City, Tennessee

And I gotta get a move on fit for the sun
I hear my baby callin' my name
And I know that she's the only one
And if I die in Raleigh
At least I will die free

So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me

The geography is horrible. You dont travel west from the Cumberland Gap to get to Johnson City, you go east. Which makes me think they pretty much picked random names for the song so its probably not really meant as any ode to NC so I vote no.

^^ Ah crap. I really hope that the guys in the student section will be classy. That video was creepy and she was videotaped without her knowledge. I mean yeah I watched it. What red blooded heterosexual male wouldn't, but that doesn't mean I thought it was right. I'm sure there will be at least one drunk douche bag in the front row that will yell something crude to her about the video.

Why is Notre Dame puzzling? They have so much top talent on the roster it is only a matter of time before they perform and they have a very easy schedule this year. They are far more talented across the board than Weis' first two teams that made BCS games.

I could see them challenging for a BCS bowl pretty easily this year. I mean where are the losses going to come from? SC obviously. Potentially Pittsburgh (though I'm not sold on Pornstache) and I guess Boston College/Michigan State (though I think ND will beat BOTH of them).

*** By the way, I can not wait until SC-Ohio State. Nothing better than Buckeyes fans on here excusing yet another national bedwetting..

Yeah ND is puzzling too. The only reason why they will be in the Top 25 is due to their schedule.

Sat, Sep 5 Nevada 3:30 pm - W
Sat, Sep 12 at Michigan 3:30 pm - L
Sat, Sep 19 (24) Michigan State 3:30 pm - L
Sat, Sep 26 at Purdue 8:00 pm - W
Sat, Oct 3 Washington 3:30 pm - W
Sat, Oct 17 (3) USC 3:30 pm - L
Sat, Oct 24 Boston College 3:30 pm - W
Sat, Oct 31 Washington State 7:30 pm - W
Sat, Nov 7 Navy 2:30 pm - W
Sat, Nov 14 at Pittsburgh TBA - Tossup
Sat, Nov 21 Connecticut 2:30 pm - W
Sat, Nov 28 at Stanford 8:00 pm - W

So either 9-3 or 8-4 which for them will get them votes in the Top 25 whether they deserve it or not.

^ ND is still coached by fatboy

i am inclined to think that michigan is more likely to improve than notre dame, given the coaches.

maybe you're right, but voting a team in the preseason top 25 b/c "fuck it, eventually charlie weis has to figure this out" is, to me, a little puzzling.

i guess it shouldn't be, b/c it's kindof SOP, but yeah.

TCU, Utah, and Boise all deserve to be MUCH higher on that list.

Utah should of came in at atleast 13, TCU should of been 14 and Boise St. 15. Let UNC get the preseason hype it''l be that much better to knock them off of their pedestal!!

The polls have integrity? That's news. The Coaches don't watch the games, the sportswriters cling to their pet programs, and the Harris Poll is just desperately trying to cling to it's newfound influence.

At least Spurrier was admitting, after a fashion, how much of a joke the polls are.

I say we play a Notorious BIG's 'Gimme the Loot' between 3rd and 4th quarters.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzvL4O3uomg

Of course this will never happen. We'll likley be playing some twang ass country song at a football game. Don't get me wrong, I like some country, but not to get pumped for a football game.

Edit: Of course the crass language, etc. in the song would not be feasible, but I think it would be awesome to hear some Biggie coming through the loud speakers...
