lol in the england v egypt game, late into it per espn commentary:

Quote :
"Rooney now coming off for Carlton Cole and the captain's armband goes to Barry. It's like a hot potato and no-one wants to give it to Terry."

Owen's one of my all time favorites. Hopefully he'll be transferred to a real team before he retires.

I don't know that Everton's got the same kind of weight to pull an AC Milan here for Donovan.

Landon is more important to the on-field success of LA than Becks.

There were a bunch of things working in Becks' favor with the last loan - adidas having a hand in both the MLS and AC Milan's sponsorship, Milan being one of the biggest teams in the world, and the target market.

Donovan's only got the target market. Everton isn't one of the big boys, and Nike's not going to stump up for him to stay there, because he's not one of the brand-marked players, playing for one of their biggest teams.

If this were a year or 2 in the future, after Nike's figured out their Umbro/Nike integration path, then maybe, yeah. But Landon still isn't their "branded" US player - Clint Dempsey is.

you right on all that

Another thing is that while I'm sure Donovan wants to stay and likes playing in England... from what I can tell, he has absolutely no problem living in California even if that means MLS for now. So he's probably not making a big deal out of it like Becks was either. He's getting paid and he just proved he can cut it overseas so all he has to do is just wait for the next window and he knows other teams will make bids for him

did lando just sign a new contract with LA before he went to everton? I seem to remember him signing a multi-year extension but i could be wrong.

I wish he'd stay in the EPL, I wish he could play against man city once before he leaves and break nigel de jongs ankle.

yeah, I think it was like a 3 or 4 year deal... but nothing that a 10-15 mil transfer fee won't fix

yea i was just wondering if he could leave on his own any time soon, but i thought the mls had his rights for a while. hopefully an epl team buys him this summer, he's always been too good for the mls and now that he's proven he can play, he'd be a good deal for 10-15 mil.

i really want to see donovan stay with this team. i cant stand that he is still in the mls. id love to see it become great, but realistically i dont ever see the mls being big in america...too many people in the us cant stand soccer almost by principle...its sad.

i wonder what its like to be passing to the likes of saha, cahill, and mikel arteta, then a couple days later have to watch edson buddle miss the goal for the 12th time on a header over chad marshall. probably pretty depressing
