All original members of the ACC came from the Southern Conference
State playing teams that I have no association with makes wins and losses less meaningful 5/25/2012 8:42:46 AM |

I'd still be a State fan if we moved conferences, obviously, but at least in the near term the games will be less interesting. Especially for basketball. Honestly, for football, our annual doses of Wake, BC, and whatever crap Big East teams we schedule hasn't been that enticing lately. But I will miss the basketball lineup.
Oh wait, we're losing the home-and-home with UNC anyway. F*ck it, nevermind.

yeah, this is how I feel. And what's stopping us from playing UNC in football every year like Clemson/South Carolina anyways? That rivalry hasn't suffered from the two being in different conferences.
Basketball would definitely suck though.5/25/2012 9:47:11 AM |

I'm guessing that they want to boost their football reputation? Being in the ACC seems to have no benefit when your one wtf loss is to a decent ACC team that automatically gets you kicked out of the top 25 5/25/2012 10:54:33 AM |

i'm wondering why Clemson, FSU, Miami etc would want to go to the Big XII
they can barely win the ACC as it is, good luck beating Texas and Oklahoma every year 5/25/2012 11:07:14 AM |

First off, the SEC has absolutely 0 interest in GT. Bank that. Next, the SEC's dream is VT and UNC for the market expansion. UNC would never move to the SEC so the next best option for the SEC would be State. Maryland would be a last resort/consolation prize if all other options fell through.
This is all hypothetical, but does anyone think that the old guard at State would allow the school to break from UNC, Duke, and Wake? I've spoken to a lot of State fans/grads that would be okay with a move to the SEC, but they are all fairly young (less than 35). 5/25/2012 11:14:12 AM |

DEAR GOD IT WONT STOP
look, we've already discussed this. State is going to the SEC, will win national championships in both football and basketball multiple times in the next decade, and will become an independent with our own TV network. 5/25/2012 11:15:45 AM |

I don't know about that. I don't see us passing Alabama in football, or Kentucky in basketball, but our sports would do well in the SEC. Right now in football, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Florida, and Tennessee are pretty average. Arkansas, Texas A&M, and Mizzouri are always pretty average too. The SEC looks better than it is because of the success of Alabama and LSU over the past decade along with the rise and fall of a some other programs (Florida, Auburn).5/26/2012 5:40:48 PM |

I say FUCK IT.
Let's let whoever wants to leave leave. We aren't a football power and never have been.
We should stick with the other NC teams no matter what.
In fact, if things sort out the way they might...the ACC might be:
-NC State -UNC -Duke -Wake -UVA -Maryland -Pitt -Syracuse -BC
Then we'd probably have to take the rest of the Big East on the Atlantic coast: UConn, Rutgets, Temple
Honestly, I'd be totally fine with a new ACC that loses everything south of NC and takes in good basketball teams.

^That is only if they have a good enough record. Sort of like the Gator Bowl used to be when we played them. The Gator Bowl was allowed to take Big East #2, or Notre Dame a certain number of times, over the Big East team. 7/10/2012 9:08:46 PM |

In all seriousness, a lot of people on that board are talking about rivalries but with Syracuse and Pitt coming in they will have some closer geographical rivals. Long term the only logical expansion for the ACC is further north since it is going to be very hard to get anyone worthwhile from the sout 11/17/2012 6:18:26 PM |
