Wow that surprises me about gamble. Pretty big loss for us but we needed the cap space if hes not healthy

And lol at us getting Wallace or jennings. Im hoding out hope for kate upton myself. It might happen

I know Gamble sucked last year before he got hurt, but retirement definitely surprised me. Oh well, not a big loss, our young corners played great the 2nd half of the season once 95 and Hardy started beasting their pass rush

I ignored this thread for a while. But people arguable trying to say we should tank the 13-14 season? Seriously? When our team has finally put some things together and showing unification and life. A few key pieces and we are in the playoff hunt.

As been stated, our DB did pretty solid the 2nd half of the season w/out Gamble.
Offense started to show impressive clutch plays but we are in need of a solid WR to move smith around (already been stated).
If/when offense puts up 24-30 points a game our D, won't look so apathetic so often.
But a need to address ST is pretty evident.

my 2 cents

no Gamble? meh. good for the cap space, and I won't miss him. how are we looking in the cap department heading into free agency? 13-14 definitely is NOT a year to tank, we were 4 BS losses away from the playoffs last year (Chicago, Atlanta I, Tampa Bay II, KC), this year has to be the breakout year.

also, I wish there was something we could do about the wine and cheese crowd at BoA. worst home field in the NFL

James Anderson released, wasn't expecting that one.

In a hypothetical would you rather the Panthers have cut Beason to be able to afford Boldin's salary or kept him?

Quan would have been here for a 6th rounder and Beason would have been gone if I was Gettleman

If they added Boldin for Beason, I believe that also would've freed up nearly as much cap space as releasing Anderson

Florence is in. Nice to have a veteran in that secondary to help things along.

If we can get Gross/Beason restructured, get Captain and Dwon resigned, and get Adrian Wilson for the right price we would actually be making some helpful and thrifty movement this offseason.

Looking towards the draft, Tavon Austin would be an insanely good pick at the middle of the first round. If you mixed up the style of Sproles, Harvin, and Welker you get Austin. He can line up all over the field and he provides a serious upgrade to special teams on day 1. I think that kid is going to be a star in the league.

2nd round should be whoever the highest rated player left between CB/DT is on our board

3rd round I would target Barrett Jones from Bama. He can provide cover across all three interior positions and is a very smart guy. He would be a steal in the 3rd imo.

i watched Austin's senior highlight video...made lots of plays, but also got run down by some defenders on offensive and special teams plays when he had seemingly already hit his stride...looks like his acceleration is greater than his top speed...also according to some the panthers worry about his longterm durability...so i wouldnt be mad if we got him, but i dont see it

also we dont have a 3rd round pick currently

He ran a 4.2 that was adjusted to a 4.3 at the combine.

With his versatility, and the way that the nfl is moving towards the college spread, he could be a huge weapon for Cam in that offense.

You can hand him the ball, line him up in the slot, motion him on end arounds etc. The possibilities are endless.

[Edited on March 13, 2013 at 9:55 PM. Reason : also, i forgot about the no 3rd rounder but i still hope jones is around when we pick]

well just to use Atlanta as an example, they lost Michael Turner and signed S Jax...so its kind of a wash

Pats got Amendola...but lost Welker...again, kind of a wash

for every great free agent signing, there are teams that overpay for guys and it hurts them in the future

i wouldn't call it a wash. even though jackson is starting to decline, he's still light years better than turner ever was. definite upgrade.

[Edited on March 21, 2013 at 6:54 PM. Reason : also i don't see why keeping munnerlyn is that great of a move.]

Turner has been a whole lot more productive.. I know it doesn't mean he's better, but 1700 yards and 17 TDs compared to 1000 and 7 is kinda a big deal. Obv if SJ played for a decent team he'd have amazing numbers, but turner is certainly a very good RB, or was, and they've been in the league the same but Jackson has a lot more carries

Did we need a track guy? I thought we needed a receiver. If you are thinking kick returner the new rules pretty much kill that too.

new rules?

he's a good kickoff guy and an even better punt returner

both of those things are important, especially for a team who has been awful at both for a ridiculous amount of time

[Edited on March 21, 2013 at 10:17 PM. Reason : better than anyone we had last year]

Panthers should sign Quentin Jammer and see if they can get a year or 2 out of him at corner. He had his best years under Rivera.

At the very least, he could be a good strong safety.

Now that we got Ginn they can go ahead and cut Armanti/Pilares/Adams as they are all exact same mediocre player.

Get Charles Woodson to play some safety too. An over the hill Woodson is still >>>>>>>> Nakamura

Hahaha, we A.) Can't afford Woodson, and B.) He is going to play for a contender.

Though I'd love to have him, no way he'd come here. He'd take less money to play on a number of teams before he'd even visit with us.

even with the new rules Ginn will help with our "special" teams immediately, and he can't be any worse at receiver than Armanti/Pilares/Adams as Ribs said.

and yea, Woodson is a pipe dream. no one will want to come here until we can break the 7-9 barrier

^^^ There was an article out there about him feeling "shunned" in free agency. The longer it goes on the less need there is for him and the more the price goes down. He's 36 so obviously he isn't going to get decent money.

^^Getting Edwards back for a season is huge. Lessens the need to take a DT with the 1st round pick too (not that I'd be opposed to it, we just don't HAVE to do it now0

Should have about ~5 mill to play with after the Gross restructure

The restructure got us to 7 under, but we need about 5 to sign draft picks. However, we used the June 1st on Anderson that will get us 3 back at that point.

I like the Hixon pick up, and like the Ginn pick up even more now. Knowing that Ginn is not picked up as our "key" wr pick up makes me feel better about what we are attempting to do.

Now, let's work on the DBs
