<3 My Mirena. I'm one of the lucky ones whose period stops a couple months after insertion. I'm 18 months into my second one and had light spotting and cramps this month for the first time since those first two cycles. I'm actually really glad that I didn't have the doctor tie my tubes after Amelia because Mirena and I get along so well.

Good Luck with your new BC!

Added: Your doctor will probably do an ultrasound to ensure that your IUD is placed correctly. The insertion of my second one was so painful that the doctor insisted on doing an ultrasound to make sure that it was in place.

I had an ultrasound before and after mirena insertion and then a week later. I jumped when she got it through my cervix so they wanted to make sure. They also cut the strings very short. Does anyone check their strings monthly?

Not anymore. My strings always end up tucked back where they're difficult to find. Even my doctor has had trouble locating them when I've gone in freaking out because they were MIA. Now, I just don't worry about it.

^^^Do you use a deodorant or a deodorant/antiperspirant? Deodorants prevent odor-causing bacteria and antiperspirants prevent sweat. If you use a regular deodorant/antiperspirant, it probably contains aluminum chloride, which is acidic and most likely the reason for your stains. To remove the stains, your best bet is to use cold water and an alkaline-based stain remover.

And if you're not a "sweaty" person, switching to a deodorant (sans antiperspirant) may be your best option for the future. I initially switched to just deodorant after reading some stuff about aluminum and Alzheimer's and cancer. After further research, the association isn't that strong, but I continued to use a deodorant because a) I noticed less pit stains and b) sweating is your body's natural cooling mechanism - why fuck with that?

So excited. Bridesmaid dress for a wedding I'm in is something I'll actually be able to wear a lot (might make it shorter after the wedding, but I have a sewing machine so that's super easy):

And if you want to order from them you can get $25 off:

"I have gained about 7 lbs in the last 2-3 weeks and I'm worried that it's not just period/water weight.

I have no idea what it could be though - I had a few "cheat" days when my bf was in town, but other than that nothing has changed dramatically in my life (activity levels, drinking, diet). I just joined a "diet bet" thing online and hopefully that will be something concrete to motivate me. I am so upset about this, and I know I shouldn't be. I just feel like all the hard work I've put in over the last couple years to lose (& maintain) weight can just be gone in the blink of an eye."

slappy1 - sorry late to the par-tay....work's been kicking my butt so i haven't been on here as much. i have gained 5 pounds since we moved 2 months ago and i have yet to figure out what it could be. i have switched up the diet, tried different things, work out more/work out less, make sure i'm getting enough sleep, etc. i actually move a lot more during the day since we moved to a city where i don't need a car....so i am walking more on top of my normal work outs.

and i'm kind of in the same boat as you - i worked really hard to lose weight a few years ago and now i worry that everything is just going to pile back on. i still think mine is somewhat food-related....been trying to eat low-fructose as it seems to help with the swelling under my eyes and the swelling around my stomach during the day. based on the research i have done, 1:3 people have some level of fructose malabsortion/sensitivity but since the symptoms are so similar to IBS, doctors just diagnose it as such instead of doing a fructose test (which is a hydrogen test just like the lactose ones they give). there's a lot of overlap with the FM and sulfite sensitivity so it's been a very interesting ride. right now, i just try to eat right and stay away from sweets

What is this leptin sensitivity I always read about regarding difficulty of losing weight? Cass, do you know?

And everytime I ask for a metabolic blood panel, the GPs always turn away. Is it that complicated/expensive?

The only non aluminum deodorant I could find at Target was Tom's of Maine. A bit more expensive than I'm used to but if it works it'll be worth it.

this is very interesting. my doctor loves me and generally humors me with the tests/panels I request, so maybe I'll ask about this next time I'm in?

the only sugars I consume are small amounts of fruit, a couple TBSPs of truvia a couple times of week (in my "milkshakes"), a little PB here and there, and dark chocolate covered nuts that I eat way too much of (I've convinced myself that dark chocolate is paleo so it's a "freebie"). unless I'm just completely cheating (I've also convinced myself that when my bf is in town or I'm out there or we're on a trip that since it feels like vacation, it must be vacation, and therefore what I'm putting into my body doesn't count or exist).

uugh.

AHA

I have no idea why, but I randomly/spontaneously gave up drinking and binge eating. It's been an ordeal, which I've tried not to post about too much, but I have totally screwed myself into having to be a "healthy" person. And I've never wanted to be that way at all. So psychologically I'm all kinds of messed up now.

I would like to give a big thank you to whoever recommended Lush to me forever ago. I recently started using their products and I am hooked. I now use the Ocean Salt face scrub once or twice a week, the 9-5 cleansing lotion for makeup removal, the Celestial face moisturizer, and the Dream Cream lotion. They gave me some shampoo and conditioner samples last time I was in and I will probably get some of that next time I have splurge money. I have sensitive skin and so far everything has worked magnificently. I mentioned my hair changing a few pages back, becoming oily AND flaky, and the samples they gave me have fixed both problems. I'm not one to spend a lot on beauty products, but I feel like this stuff is worth it.

LOL, it wasn't that bad. I was just explaining basic biology, whining about my hair and skin, and then being somewhat dismissive about your concerns.

Basically, you should expect to gain weight back; even if it's just like 15 pounds that you lost, your body will always want that weight back and has all sorts of ways to make it happen. You just gotta recognize it happening and diet it off again. Really, I don't know a single woman who actually maintains her weight (unless it's a natural weight that's never changed).

I dunno though. There could be something mysteriously wrong with you so you should track your other symptoms for your doctor.

I might have already said this but my body weight fluctuates pretty wildly (or maybe it's normal?) during the course of a month just from retaining water (both period-related and in general), after a big poop or binge drinking, etc.

but I just thought this was strange because it was a lot, and it wasn't really going away. but as of this morning I am just up about 4 lbs, so that is good.

I joined this so hopefully I make some $$!

ipsy bags ship out next week

This month includes:

One Sation Nail Polish
One big sexy hair item (renewal or volumizing)
One blush
One Mica beauty shimmer OR pink eyeshadow duo

Apparently the blush alone is $16 so this looks like a great bag!

It really wasn't anything bad, I swear. And I think she's talking leptin resistance. People who overeat a lot wear out their receptors...so leptin, a hormone that helps people feel full, doesn't do the job of making them feel full anymore.

Leptin is responsible for some other critical functions, too. Obviously, my explanation here is very simplistic (and probably incorrect in some fundamental way). Anyway, it's why the advice about eating when you're hungry and stopping when you're full isn't helpful to a lot of people, especially binge eaters and/or bulimics.
