The slowdown of time idea started to make more sense now, especially with Walt looking much older when the fog showed him. I know it's not the real Walt, but the show typically hasn't altered anyone when i represents them.

Especially since they were supposed to be dead."

Actually I just went back and rewatched that scene. The lines go "hey you're that hero. I saw you on tv. Lady, do you know what this guy did? Give him what he wants."

You just assumed that he was talking about being the hero from the car accident. Its possible that he was already a quasi-famous/hero character and this latest car accident hero thing propelled him back into the spotlight.

Badass finale. Didnt disappoint at all....

My take:
1) Whidmore industries obviously plays a major role from here on out ~ we know Mr. Whidmore is interested in that area (boat race, etc) and Penny is now too somehow...
2) The J.... on that newspaper clipping could be for James... as in Sawyer's real name... or John ... and in Locke.... I just don't see Jacob being a tangible being that could fit this description. IMO its got to be one of those two.... Kate's reaction to Jack suggests it is probably Sawyer in the coffin, also that no one showed up for the funeral does also... But then again ~ what lucky fella is she going home to if not Jack or Sawyer? Unless its someone we havent met yet (and I dont think theyre ready to drop the Jack/Kate/Sawyer love triangle even in the future flashes), it suggests that it should be Locke in the coffin...
3) Jack and Juliette obviously feel the need to bone down if they havent already (she could be lying to sawyer)(but then again she doesent want to risk pregnancy). But she obviously isnt with him after they get off the island so something between them doesent work out or she dies. She is now also a full blown "good" character after this episode, so something big happens between them still....
4) Matthew Fox and his character are so much more likeable after seeing this episode. I really didnt like the guy until now, but his passionate hate for Ben killing his friends won me over along with the pill popping & nirvana rockin' that goes on in the future flash.
5) This great story cannot end sadly like we have foreseen in these future flashes. There is no way that the main characters of Kate and Jack end up like we saw : it just isnt realistic. Therefore, we must assume that the writers are showing us this to beef up just how bad a future with these new other/others will be if the island is not kept a secret as ben and locke have been shown. They want our imaginations to go wild about who they are / where it will go / etc without giving us any information about them at all. Locke will lead them all to a better future...

Consider that the future we saw isnt the "end" of the show, but somewhere before the end.

Possibly Jack and Kate go back in time to the island to try and change things, and they become the skeletons in the cave they saw in the first season, adam and eve.

Yeah, thats way out there....

This should (hopefully) put to rest the debate about if Jacks dad is still alive or not.

Quote :
"well, so far any time the writers have insisted on something in their podcast, and I mean clearly insisted and not joked around, they haven't lied to us yet. They DEFINITELY confirmed that Christian was dead in a recent podcast. Here is what they said:
Damon: (reading fan question) Please confirm again that Christian Shepard is dead. I am so tired of people who believe the opposite.
Carlton: (sighs) Well you know, for those of you who believe the opposite, you're wrong. For those who believe Christian is dead, you're vindicated.

Granted, they could always start lying to us. But until that happens, I'm going to believe that anyone who they confirm as dead in their podcasts, really are."

Like I said, the most likely scenario...We are going to see more future flashbacks next season. We still don't know how much time has elapsed between the meeting of Jack and Kate and when the got off the island. The whole story of what happens when the rescue comes, (if they fight of some other thing like Ben suggested or if they just get flat out rescued) will continue on, but we will see their lives after the rescue instead of before. The people on the island have changed, their past is gone. Now, we see what they will become, some maybe for the good, others like Jack, needed that island...they just didn't know it.

bonnie told him the number sequence before she told him it went to the sound of good vibrations so all he needed was the first few notes to understand the tone of the keypad and since every musician knows good vibrations like the back of their hand he was able to fill in the pieces where he forgot what the numbers were

that's all i'm going to explain to you guys because you deserve not to understand that they're going to develop the Jacob character a lot more within the next 3 seasons (if not the next season) and he will become an integral part of the story between Jack, Kate and all of the castaways in a way that causes the future to suck

everyone keeps saying that walt must have been the smoke monster and maybe he was, but i remember them talking about walt having powers and asking micheal if walt ever appeared in places that he was not supposed to be when he was younger...I just wonder if that was really him, or him using his powers...hummm

Is it possible that the newspaper clipping that Jack was reading was referencing "Jack Sheppard" in some crazy way. I'm just saying its a possibility.

So for the ones who posted all the spoilers, did the finale deliver, or did the writers put out bogus info to screw with the spoiler people.

I am so glad I did not read any of the spoiler posts. It boggles my mind that for a show that is so wrapped in secrets that this type of info got out well before the finale.

^ I tried to stay away from spoilers, but everyone's theories that I read were waaayyyy off.

From http://lost.cubit.net/viewEgg.php?id=291, kind of interesting:

In 3x22, the season finale, "Through the Looking Glass", we get a strange series of flashbacks from Jack's perspective. While watching the show, it became more and more difficult to place the flashbacks. The reason why was revealed at the end, they were actually flash forwards. We did get a hint before the end, when Jack went to visit HOFFS / DRAWLAR funeral home. An odd looking name often means anagram. And in this case, the anagram is FLASH FORWARD.

I just want to say that the whole "we have to go back" line is a total play on the garden of eden.

The Island = Eden

Ben = God

Black girl who gives them the phone = Devil

Jack = Eve

ok, so is S03 E23 the season finale? Cause i just got done watching it and damnit...nothing was answered! Who's funeral was it? Also i got the impression right from the first flash forward that it was indeed after they were rescued but then i had doubts when he said "get my father up here and if im more drunk than he, you can fire me" Didn't his father die in Australia before the crash?

^^^^ Well I appreciate him putting "spoilers" in the thread (that's why I didn't read it). In here, there were just *theories* which mostly seemed to circle around who was going to die (sawyer, jack, juliette, etc).

It was a good bit of misdirection. The writers leaked this info about a lot of deaths, and we were so focused on what could this big reveal on the island be that you really didn't think about the flashback too much.

Yeah I have no idea how the spoilers got out to be honest. I like to be spoiled somewhat with most shows I watch, but I don't really like knowing the whole episode. Typically they have maybe 2 or 3 little clues per episode that they give out, so I didnt think it was possible the entire finale was leaked two weeks before it even aired... I have no idea how that guy got it.

I don't know if anyone's said this directly, but I thought that Jack yelling for his dad at the hospital was just him sarcastically acknowledging that his dad, a perpetual drunk, was probably still drunker than Jack was, even 6 feet underground.

^^^^^^ well if the world never knew about these people actually survived the crash then it could be anyone because they are still apparently dead as far as the world knows: no one would know about them to go to their funerals. Remember Jack said he was using that GOLDEN TICKET "they" gave to him to fly around alot hoping to crash again? It seems like the Whidmore corp. basically got them back to society with all the $$ they want, but they didnt get their lives back like before....

^Once again, from the flash-foward:

Jack is still working as a doctor.
Jack is still working at the same hospital he worked at before
Christian is the name of Jack's father, who also worked at that hospital.
Jack's last name is still Sheppard.
Sarah came in and Jack acknowledged her as his "ex-wife"

What evidence is there that "they are still apparently dead as far as the world knows" and that "they didnt get their lives back like before"? The golden ticket was because Ocianic probably had a major shit-storm of bad publicity after it was found that these people that they had "found" as being dead we actually alive and stranded on an island somewhere in the Pacific.

what evidence is there to suggest that the Widmore corporation/Penny's father is behind all of this? I've read a few posts that claim Widmore had a contract to do all of the building on the island for DHARMA. When was this found out?

the numbers are part of the valenzetti (sp?) equation that predict the end of the world....each number represents a different variable in a different field...such as psychology, meteorology, zoology, etc... that's why there were different stations in the dharma initiative.
the purpose of the dharma initiative was to conduct research experiments and ultimately change one of these numbers in the equation to offset the end of the world...

the number/variable they were most likely close to changing was the carrying capacity equation. By bringing people to the island and having them conceive, it guaranteed the mother to die, and the baby to live on, thus lowering the population.

when jack meets the new head of surgery the guys says "oh, so you're the hero, twice over" so it seems like people do know he saved everyone on the island.

^^ i thought that as well, but later in the episode someone says something like "You went in and saved that 8 year old boy, then went back in and saved his mother" So I took it to mean he's a hero twice over for saving two people. But the guy at the drugstore did say "Hey, I've seen you, this guy is a hero, give him whatever he wants." That could also mean the real world does know about the island and Jack saving people on it in some way.

Man, seriously. Mikhail better be alive. He is a badass and I really hope they do a background on him (or a flash-forward if that's how they're doing it now) in the next season.

^I saw the grenade explode. You can't tell in that shot whether or not he was blown up. I also saw the part where he was "killed" by the stun towers. And I also saw the part where he was shot through the fucking chest with a speargun.

Just face it. He's unstoppable. Unless I see his dead body I'm not writing him off yet.

Mikhail's full name is "Mikhail Bakunin" which is the same name of a historical figure in Russian history who was the famous leader of the Russian Anarchist movement.
