but to answer the question:

That bar across the street, Milltown, has delicious and tremendo sandwiches that two people can split and a pretty wonderful beer menu and like $1.5/2 PBRs for your budget. Before Of Montreal this past spring I had a Duck-Rabbit Baltic Porter. That is a weird sentence. BUT, I have no idea if they have a TV.

Honestly, you could probably slide into any place on Rosemary or Franklin (one of those pizza places, or Four Corners, or whatever) and park on the side of the road, grab two beers, and then head down and jostle for a spot before parking 4 blocks away. I've done that before.

just got back from get up kids at the trocadero in philly

pretty good

they're playing really tight

good range of songs, from woodson to a new one

however, as expected, you could barely hear matt pryor over the crowd singing every word to every song off played off of four minute mile, red letter day, and something to write home about...

only one or two from on a wire or guilt show, and during those, the crowd was basically mulling around waiting for older stuff

they've got another show in philly tomorrow at another venue (which is kinda strange).

man, that show ruled (aside from the sound problems, thanks again 506)

too many hipsters though. most of them looked confused. i guess good pitchfork reviews will always bring those dudes out though

i was there. solid show - they played most of the new album with a few good oldies thrown in (swans, rough gem, creeper). and yes, it is BYOB. we rolled in with a cooler.

"It’s no surprise if you’ve never heard of Felix the Drum Machine. After all, they don’t have a MySpace page and they’ve played once since 2000. Some may say Felix is as elusive as Jandek — sans 61 self-released albums.

To that effect, here is a quick initiation: Felix is a band formed of members of Lonnie Walker, Future Islands and Annuals while they were still in high school. To say the least, they were a band ahead of their indie electronica time as they combined elements of drum loops, live instruments and brooding vocals."

i think the starmount posters come from one primary source of authentic memorabilia of some sort. some old curious looking book. oh yeah bump for a sonic treat tonight!

Nightlight
9:30pm $5
starmount, boat burning, white cascade

some lounge, some psychedelia, and some noise, and plenty of rain for sure

Went and saw The Get Up Kids last night. Mansions and Kevin Devine opened up. Good show.

TGUK's set was fantastic:

3 songs off red letter day/woodson EPs
3 songs off Four Minute Mile
6 songs off Something to Write Home About
2 songs off Eudora
4 songs off On A Wire
3 songs off Guilt Show
2 new songs

saw minus the bear in orlando last night...great show. i do recommend catching them at cat's cradle for you NC'ers. set included songs from highly refined pirates, beer commercials, menos el oso, planet of ice, and a couple new ones.

thought the opener twin tigers were pretty good too, even tho their sound was terribly mixed at the venue. probably sound better at the cradle

^yea that has a lot to do with it for me now. If I lived somewhere that had more of a local music scene, I'd be out to a lot more shows. Nothing at all stops by Greenville, SC (except for ex jam band members and classic rock cover bands). Luckily I am a reasonable distance from Charlotte (1.5), Atlanta (2.5), Asheville (1hr15). It still gets old having to drive that round trip for any decent show, especially on a week night.

@Slim's with NAPS ... drummer for both bands is out on tour with one of his other bands ... so last I heard Raymond from Lonnie Walker would fill in ... not sure if that's still the case, though.

Not really for NC people, but if you at all like Tegan and Sarah, they're touring for Sainthood (presumably with a full band as opposed to when I saw them in Atlanta in 05 when noone knew who they were and they were just acoustic) and coming to DC Feb. 17 and Richmond the 18th. Me and the other half are excited for the Richmond show, which is as close as anything good comes to Western Va.

If you haven't heard their new stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxdK0sR6Vhg

seems like months ago everyone on this board was going to this show

then it just kinda, happened.

i thought it was.... just ok.

loud annoying fucker screaming "you've got the love" behind me the whole time and talking on his cell phone (and dropping and breaking 3 beer bottles) pretty much did me in and i ended up taking perch at the bar.

jon hopkins drew my attention though.

If you aren't busy tonight, there's an awesome show at Slim's...

LUEGO

and

BRIGHT YOUNG THINGS

and

PONDEROSA

(Who the slim's crowd is hell-bent convinced are going to be playing in front of 5,000 people someday.)

Also, LUEGO and BYT sounded great at Troika a few weeks ago. Very very good bands all around.
