Well, you are assuming they have HD-DVD which they do not... and I am not aware of the 360 (because I dont have both) being able to upconvert... and IF it can, I dont know if it does it exactly the same.

so yeah... there you go again, just rambling for the sake of arguement as usual..

PS3 1080p

Xbox360 upconverts
PS3 upconverts

There you go again talking out of your ass for the sake of talking. You make it sound like your friend is using his xbox360 on an old Standard Def tv.

It upconverts over VGA and HDMI.

I just bought the upconvert DVD player, but it only upconverts to 1080 i/p if you use hdmi. I guess I'm stuck with 480p since my tv doesn't have hdmi.

It's just to tide me over until Blu-ray players improve.

Last chance to sell your HD DVD stuff while it still has some value... Otherwise, enjoy your $150 player than can play a handful of movies.

wow.

question, without me looking too much around on the internet for the answer. was the 360 going to support Blu-ray in the future? Maybe it has no choice now, but what are any timetables for that?

360 can only do hd-dvd with a add on

ms has said nothing about having a BR add on at some point.

There is always the option that Microsoft could say "no, we don't think our game console should be an HD movie player too". Nintendo's isn't.

when over half of the titles consist of garbage you'd never watch in the first place and another quarter consist of movies you'd never watch twice, I'd consider what's left to be a handful.

yo mark(gloveco)....if like 47 percent of the movies are garbage you would never watch, and the other 28 percent consist of movies you'd never watch twice, then yeah, thats a handful of movies

.

Above this line exists the magical spot from which statistics flow.

Due to the price of standalone BD players, I believe it will be some time before I get one for my mom. She is one of the people that wouldn't be able to use a PS3 to play a BD because of stereotypes that consoles cannot play movies. She is afraid of the complexities of the cable box just for HD and digital cable. She won't have satellite because "The dish is ugly" although it's really because she is afraid.

My mom is afraid of technology.

My PS3 has been great.

Don't see why anyone wouldn't be one right now instead of forking out that for a Blu-Ray player....

It's official now. Toshiba just announced on Japanese TV that they are dropping HD DVD and exiting the format war.

Are we talking blu ray or HD DVD?

the last handful of movies I bought were HD DVD because they're great movies and aren't available on blu ray yet and probably won't be for some time.

I just put a 45 dollar bid on a HD-A35 player. Hopefully with Toshiba throwing in the towel no one else will bid on this.

I'll take my Planet Earth, Transformers, Bourne Tril and watch in 1080/24 all day long for 45 dollars.

That'll tide me over until BR players are sub $200.

doubtful. DVD players don't even go that cheap on Ebay.

I have a lot of HDDVDs that I received as promo gifts (work in radio) and I don't even have a HDDVD player. And this is a good up-converter for my normal DVD collection.

I won't buy any HDDVDs but it'd be nice to get a great upconverter and something to play my current HDDVDs on for 45 bucks plus 10 ship.

Dude, you really need to get over your snobbery. The fact is, if you're buying a Blu-ray player today, the PS3 far and away your best choice, by any metric you choose to measure by. Best picture quality, sound quality, loading speed, and upgradeability. Will there be a better Blu-ray player one day? Of course, but if you're talking about buying one today, you're settling for an inferior product if you're not buying the PS3. But whatever, I'm sure you know more than a guy who's built a $6 million home theater

Uh... he's also got a Scientific Atlanta digital cable box and everyone knows those are pieces of shit.

Not to mention the fact that there's a BDP-S1 sitting two shelves above the PS3.

^^And I don't see how that changes the fact that Wyloch is dead wrong about the PS3s capabilities as a Blu-ray player. Unless, like I said, he's got more refined tastes than Mr. Kipnis up there.
