great game

looking good going into the break

it'll take a herculean effort in the second half, but I think this team has the talent to make up some games.

what would the Maurice-O-Meter display?

# of games to make the playoffs?

# of snarky responses to the media?

# of games where we get our hopes up for having a competitive hockey team?

Didn't even notice the new page. It seems that ALLEN PEDERSEN's 66 games played with the Whale between 1992 and 1994 is the most any player ever wore #41.

Normally, the Carolina Hurricanes would be elated to hear Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski mention them during his postgame press conference. A free plug from Coach K can't hurt, right?

But when Krzyzewski was comparing his team's inability to score early against N.C. State on Tuesday — in what turned out to be a 73-56 Duke win — to the Hurricanes' perpetual scoring woes, it does test that theory about any publicity being good publicity.

"We started out the game like gangbusters," Krzyzewski said. "I thought our kids really came ready to play, but we didn't convert. It was like the Hurricanes game. The puck was in front of the opponent's goal for about four minutes and it was 1-0. You know, instead of being like 4-0. For us, I thought we were doing enough to be up like 16-1, 15-1. All of a sudden, it's 8-1 and 16-12, and they got their rhythm."

Even during the Hurricanes' two-game winning streak, they have scored a total of four goals. Then again, Kryzyewski would be the first to agree that defense has to come first.

Still, it's an interesting moment in the sports history of the Triangle, when a college basketball icon is using hockey analogies. What's next? Roy Williams talking about the power play?

We have 51 points in the standings right now.
20 more wins is 40 more points is 91 points at the end of the year. That's cutting it close. 95 points is almost guaranteed a spot.
22 wins is a yes.
19 wins is a no.
20 or 21? That'll be close.

Brindy should be Diet MAX

being -29 and all

honestly, i wish he'd sit and get his injury in order for next year

the isles have done that with the rick, and we don't have a 15 year contract with brindy

plus, the team played much better with staal at the helm last year

One month and 2 days after submitting my order, my PISSED 24 order for a 3rd jersey was denied.

I have a day to pick a new name/number. Anyone have any ideas? I dont want something that everyone has. Leaning towards Babchuk or Ruutu who are RFAs. Possibly a Carson, but his career is a little uncertain.

I believe someone around here does the heat pressing for jerseys....you might want to check that out.

alternatively, you can buy a 3rd jersey and send it to a 3rd party stitching place that probably won't have a problem.

I dont rate a level of cool high enough to sport a thamthonov jersey, so no worries there

NateDobs works at the jersey-only Eye store in the arena...you might have to tell the guy at the register something else (although he loved my idea, so maybe not), but I'm sure he could hook you up with PISSED.

Quote :
"The NHL All-Star Game is Sunday in Montreal, which raises a lingering question: will the game ever come to Raleigh?

In 2001, NHL commissioner promised the market an All-Star Game within five years if its season ticket base reached 12,000. Fans responded by meeting that number, but the NHL has not awarded the Triangle a game.

Part of the reason: an initial lack of hotel and meeting rooms.

But Canes owner Peter Karmanos, in a recent discussion with a small group of reporters, said getting the game in 2012 is a possibility. No announcements have been made yet, but the market has added significant infrastructure in recent years.

The Convention Center is now open downtown, the Renaissance Raleigh Hotel just opened at North Hills and the swank Umstead Hotel opened in Cary in 2007. Those amenities are important to a league like the NHL because it wants nice facilities to house its executives and players as well as have places for fan events.

There will no All-Star Game in 2010 because of the Olympics and the 2011 game has not been awarded.

“We notified the league several years ago that we wanted to do an All Star game. At that time the league promised it to us but did not specify a year,” said Davin Olsen, the general manager of the RBC Center. “So I think that part of the process is done. It's now up to the league as to when it happens.”

The 2011 game may wind up in Phoenix, leaving Raleigh looking at the game in 2012.

The NHL did hold its draft in Raleigh in 2004.

God knows I'd love to see the game here more than anyone, but quite frankly it doesn't deserve to be here right now. Here's why:

-The hotel infrastructure that was mentioned. What do we have, one hotel across the street?
-Restaurants, dining, entertainment. There is a Wendy's and a gas station within walking distance of the arena, at least until the Sammy's spot reopens as mentioned a couple pages back
-They want to include downtown in the discussion? Okay, fair enough. Downtown has grown exponentially and would be excellent for All-Star Weekend visitors. But how are they supposed to get to and from the arena? Drive? There is no legitimate public transit option to the arena, which is an absolute joke for any major league sports venue.

Yep, good for the league I say. Until we get our shit in gear, they can have it in Montreal, with their downtown arena, or Phoenix, which is located even farther out in the suburbs than RBC Center, but has a major new entertainment complex right next door in the Westgate Center.

^lol, I don't think he is the "smartest". His one weakness is mental lapses in the defensive zone. definitely close to, if not the most, talented defense man.

Par la suite, les Hurricanes de la Caroline devraient être les prochains organisateurs de cette rencontre.

If this RDS report is right, it looks like we will be hosting the ASG in 2012!
