Love Language was definitely better all night, and you could tell they put a lot more time and thought into the different rounds.. but I still enjoyed Foreign Exchange. also lol'd at the confused look on a lot of black people when Mike Dillon was rapping

http://www.newraleigh.com/articles/archive/hopscotch-music-festival-coming-to-downtown-raleigh-in-september-2010/

Quote :
"Mum has been the word recently on the upcoming music festival that the Independent Weekly has been planning for 2010. The local independent paper which covers events and culture throughout the Triangle has decided to focus their attention in Downtown Raleigh for a large scale, multiple day, multiple venue music festival.

The event will be called Hopscotch and will occur from September 9th-11th in multiple indoor music venues in Downtown Raleigh as well as a big “main stage” presence in City Plaza on Fayetteville Street. Lots of local acts are being courted as well as some VERY big names in the national music industry. If the Indy comes through with some of the names that have been flirted with, and I’m a very confident they will, Hopscotch could become one of the South’s premier music festivals this year and in future years.

Over the past 5-10 years music festivals have become very widespread throughout the country, most of which are outside on some large vacant land. Hopscotch will be different. It will be urban and celebrate Raleigh as an emerging metropolis and a center of musical buzz. The shift towards Raleigh as the center of this buzz seems to be solidified by the Indy’s choice to hold the fest in downtown. That or the fact that Raleigh as a metropolis will bring in more attendants.

Both SPARKcon and Cherry Bounce are versions of this urban music festival. Cherry Bounce expanded to multiple venues and multiple days this year and MusicSPARK is only one arm of the cultural octopus that is SPARKcon. Hopscotch has a few things on both of these in that it will focus solely on music but has the backing of the Independent and sponsors. All three will assumingly happen in September/October this year and hopefully Raleigh can handle all three or all three can merge in some way to create a massive “South by Southeast”, with a much better name I’m sure. We look forward to the first year and hope that it exceeds every expectation that has been whispered our way. The Triangle has been waiting for something like this for a long time.

A preview of performers will be announced and tickets (which will be tiered from single passes to full festival passes) will go on sale in mid February. "

"Something hipster"?

Do you expect them to put some bland mainstream shitshow as the headliner at their shiny new festival?

The Indy is booking this, not Deep South.

On top of that, don't act like Grizzly Bear is some underground group that ten people have heard of. Veckatimest debuted at #8 on Billboard.

Hopelessly vague predictions:

Group A is a band that people on this board will think are not good enough to justify their successes, but are the BIG FUCKING DRAW that'll have jerks driving from Greenville and SC and Wilmington.

Group B is a band that is, very likely, absolutely phenomenally huge to the same people who don't really give two shits about Group A. Conversely, large portions Group A's huge fan base have never even heard of Group B.

New indie darlings gone big and old indie darlings now largely ignored.

hipsters.

Quote :
""The new philosophy of racial role reversal was transcribed by many popular hipster authors of the time. Norman Mailer’s 1957 pamphlet, entitled "The White Negro,"[5] has become the paradigmatic example of hipster ideology. Mailer describes hipsters as individuals "with a middle-class background (who) attempt to put down their whiteness and adopt what they believe is the carefree, spontaneous, cool lifestyle of Negro hipsters: their manner of speaking and language, their use of milder narcotics, their appreciation of jazz and the blues, and their supposed concern with the good orgasm."[6]"

Some scholars, such as Eric Lott, describe this new philosophy as based on "the twentieth century reinvention of ... homosocial and homosexual fascinations."[7] In Gay communities it is widely regarded as fact that gay culture was popularized, especially among men during this period.

Grizzly Bear is much more interesting when Michael McDonald is the lead singer.

tonight

volume 11

Jucifer

Colossus

Husky

Irata

The Daegoba System

I LOVE colossus. i havent heard jucifer's music yet, but come on, theyre called jucifer. clearly great potential. same for daegoba system and husky.

i assume the order i put up there^ (copied from volume 11's website) is saying that jucifer is headliner. show starts at 8.
