Saw it for the 2nd time yesterday. Still awesome. I made sure to look for a couple of things brought up earlier in this thread and had a couple of my own wonderings satisfied. IMAX was definitely a much better over-all experience, but regular Sunday matinee prices made up for that.

loved the movie. wasn't too fond of maggie gyllenhall (sp?) as the lead female. she's (sorta) attractive but for Batman and Two-Face to be fighting over her, i think that role needed an absolutely smoking female actress.

When Maroney (sp) tells the cops he knows where the Joker will be that afternoon (after the Joker said he'd blow up a hospital), what becomes of that?

OK, just saw the movie and overall I liked it but one thing was kind of nagging me about the joker.
Forgive me if this is old but I'm not reading through 42 pages.

^^Maroni was always skeptical of the Joker. He, along with Gambol, and all of the mobsters except the Chechen, greatly resented the Joker. If you watch Maroni during every scene in the film with the Joker, he always has a smirk on his face. Maroni sets the Joker up b/c he finally learns where he will be and he doesn't want the Joker to make off with half of his money. Gordon and the cops try to act on his tip but at that time the Joker crosses the Chechen, burns every last bit of the money to prove to them how they are all second rate criminals and the Joker makes the call to Gotham News and makes his threat about the hospital.

**Also, remember that the Joker exclaims "Where's the Italian?!" as he slides down from that huge mound of money. He was fully expecting him to be there.

In a few scenes, especially that balcony scene with Bruce where Dent interrupts, she looks like someone's grandma.

I think she was hot and a good cast. She brought a sweetness to the role. Like Dent and Bruce couldn't land almost any supermodel in Gotham, she had to be something other than just a hot piece of ass for them to both be so in love with her.

I think she is busted. The Dark Knight deserves a hotter lead female than that and on another related note so did Superman. Bitch was tore up in that movie too. But Maggie G. has a hog snout for a nose. I could stuff a roll of quarters up each nostril.

her acting made up for it.

When she is telling bruce that she cant be his last hope for a normal life you can see it in her eyes when she looks away.

When she is about to die when she is talking to dent, the way she responds to him being rescued and not her, the way she delivers the lines, her mannerisms everything about that scene. Spot on how I would imagine someone realizing there are no more options.

Speaking of which, I am gonna watch that scene right now. Its very good.

Let me just say this for a moment.

The audio in this film makes it. Its a big deal to all movies, but it is fucking amazing in the ferry scenes and her death scene and all that.

and on this.

I thought that myself after seeing it twice. So after seeing it 2 times it still wasnt clear.

That call in to the TV station about blowing up the hospital takes all the police and they all go after the hospitals and kills that lead for the police.

The score for this movie makes it. No doubt. Joker's music= Shark in Jaws. You never forget he's out there and that music alerts you of his upcoming arrival. Love it.

the whole point of the character is to be the girl next door, not to appeal to all the yahoos who want every love interest to be a supermodel.

all star batman and robin = way underrated. i love seeing batman as some cynical asshole - so much truer to what i think he'd be. sure, he fights for the good of gotham, but he still has his demons, and to think that he can handle being a superhero, a billionaire, a father-figure, and not have any issues with it is absurd.

This is why I love Frank Miller's work with Batman -- Year One, The Dark Knight Returns, The Dark Knight Strikes Again.

So maybe I'm biased, but I enjoy All-Star Batman and Robin

DKR and Year One, which I love, aren't nearly as over-the-top as the All-Star book.

i think you have to like all-star to really enjoy dksa, and the over-the-topness does contribute to most people hating both.

Really now, she looks like she is in her mid to late 50s. Its something about her face around her nose area.

And really, that picture there makes her look decent. However, if you shoot any female from the right angle with the right lighting and airbrush it they will look attractive. Notice how the "weird" part of her face is conveniently not noticeable in the picture. And "weird" isn't necessarily bad. You may think it makes her look more attractive. I think it makes her look 58.

Watch a lady in motion and you'll have a better idea of what they truly look like.

Maggie might not have been super-model hot, but she wasn't ugly either. I think she has a nice, classy look.

And to be perfectly fair to her, her role was kind of useless (maybe not so much in this movie, but you could have edited the character completely out of BB and not changed anything significantly). Sure, her death helps drive Harvey insane, but you could have replaced that with anything else. As for her being Bruce's last chance for a normal life, that happens with just about any girl he hooks up with. So again, the role of Rachel Dawes was a pointless role to begin with, so any actress taking on that role is going to be fighting up up-hill battle from the start.

wait, wot?

in BB, yea she was pretty pointless

but in TDK, she was one of the most pivotal characters. I really don't think 'anything else' would have made dent go crazy. plus she tied in significantly to the whole theme of 'sometimes people deserve more than the truth'. I think the movie wouldn't have been nearly as dark without her dying the way she did.

i think the flipping out of Dent was mainly Eckhart's own rage that he had to portray a character that was attracted to her

Anything else? Like what, stubbing his toe? Killing Rachel allowed the Joker to really rattle Batman, drive Dent insane, and cement Bruce Wayne as The Dark Knight. The best, most cruel and intense moment in the film is when Joker tells Batman he knows Batman has a thing for Rachel and that she will die if Batman doesn't save her. And then he laughs in his face, knowing Batman won't kill him. It's such a great moment Rachel might as well have been created for that very scene.
