^scout/rivals lists != the definite source on who a kid likes/doesn't like, and if they were at some point accurate, its usually where someone might have stood months ago

Why would Mike Davis already be fired when he just started there????

So you guys are telling me Sidney could pull off another JJ Hickson this year?

That would be

I'm assuming if this mystery guy commits, we back off Favors and go all out on Wall?

^^ I don't know exactly. i read all this yesterday and never did understand why Mike Davis wont be there. but UAB fans seem to think he wont be http://ncaabbs.com/showthread.php?tid=330280

maybe "fired" was the wrong word. maybe Mike Davis would leave UAB for a better job. altho he's not done anything special at UAB to make me think he would be able to pull that off

I just made a comment in my head and then an immediate carl face. My thought was:

Maybe Wall can convince Cousins to come play at State with him.

Then of course I came to my senses (the ::carl face:. Come on idiot, Wall hasn't committed anywhere and you want him recruiting for State already?

Oh well, a guy can be optimistic.

i wouldn't be surprised if wall was pushing for favors to go to state with him when favors visited.

this was posted by gravis on the free boards at scout.com:

Quote :
"It is widely believed JW is down to NCSU & Memphis, also that DF is down to GaT & NC State. Different people get different tidbits all the time. Truth is the coaches do not know where either will sign, but feel really good about our chances with each.

To the best of my knowledge JW "wants" to go to Memphis, but I think in the end the local ties, his family, and a growing relationship with Sid will cause him to sign with us.

Conversely , the local ties work in GaT's favor for DF....there we need to hope his visit here and the hard work of the staff pay off (they will be down there for DF's game against LB Sat. night). IMO, we need DF to make a business, not an emotional decision. DF is obviously torn, or he would've signed with someone early."

Not to piss on the Cousins (or Sidney, or Riley) chatter, but ... N&O giving the pack a little respect:

They have to make it seem like there is a reason to pay for the Premium when news is slow. Plus, I'm pretty sure all of the ad revenue is per impression and when mods throw out tidbits on recruits like that, the users sit there and pot/refresh pages more.

All I know about Gravis is that he supposedly plays golf with some of the bigshots in the Wolfpack club... According to most that personally know him, they mean really really bigshots.

Other than that, no idea about him. He's usually dead on, though.

Haven't followed this thread, but gravis did bet like $500 in like August we'd get 2-out-of-3 of Wall, Favors, and Brown (Obviously, this was before Brown had committed). According to him, this extra Center we're going to take (If we land him) is independent of Wall or Favors status (I'm sure someone has already said this)

From all my reading, I think Gravis is a pretty legit poster over there. They do hang on his every post but he really does provide the most breaking news when it comes to basketball and is usually spot-on so his info must be legit. He is basically the basketball mod over there since he brings in the biggest news like this whole mystery center thing.

I've seen him be right enough to know that we're about to be the talk of the ton with 3 top recruits having us in contention. Not saying we'll get any or all of them, but I think if it does break that we're in it with Cousins, it'll get our name out there even more. Especially if we managed to get all 3 of the recruits here for a visit together.

Man I need to go into hibernation until signing day. The wait for these guys to commit is getting so long. And I thought the wait for Brown to commit was long.

Yeah it seems like Sid really wants to get the fans excited about recruiting(perhaps to take focus off the current team?) so they drop tidbits here and there to get the boards really active.

Like the people over there are chomping at the bit to find out who this mystery recruit is and are making speculations and such.

Don't think he's on Sid's staff.

Gravis has been there since the Herb days...not sure how many trainers or whatnot were carried over, but I doubt he's one of them.

well maybe i've seen blue chips one too many times.

We havent been on the national radar for a significant amount of time in years and all of a sudden, blue chips are throwing us in the same class as memphis, duke, carolina. Dont get me wrong, i'd love it if we were to get any of the guys we are still pursuing but in the back of my mind, i worry about some shit going on

^ Yep... that's the kicker

^^ Larry Harris can sell ice to an eskimo.

Lowe will recruit well at State, especially if he keeps Harris on staff. He's an ex-NBA coach, long time assistant, and is a graduate of the school he's coaching so you know he's not leaving.

I just hope he coaches kids up in the future and translate it into wins

Lowe wasn't on the Pistons' staff when they won the title.

He came with Flip a couple of years later.

they really should've just waived that sham 'degree required' clause for the coaching job. no reason to have him get an online degree.

Damn, I just had to take a cigarette break after reading this page of the thread. I'm actually starting to believe. Believe that Sidney is trying to polish a turd with our current roster while he goes out and gets NBA quality talent that he doesn't have to teach the fundamentals.

I like his vision of this program right now, and the way he is recruiting is fucking amazing. It is awesome to have a coach that has NBA ties, and JJ Hickson going #19 in the NBA draft, regardless of our piss poor season last year, could be the best thing to ever happen to us.

At the same time, as a State fan, I know where optimism leads.
