I can't remember if I already asked this, but... How many venues did any of you actually go and look at? Eric and I looked at River Ridge and the more I think about it, the less I want to go look anywhere else. It just felt right. Ahhh, what to do? 8/7/2010 11:17:22 AM |

We only looked at Marbles and were pretty much sold after that. I played phone tag with Delightful Inspirations and after not receiving information that was promised to me over a month ago, I said screw that and booked Marbles. I think if it feels right and you go and look somewhere else, you'll probably just convince yourself it's not as good as the other choice anyway.8/7/2010 1:21:15 PM |

^^^I really can't say because I haven't had the experience but I feel that even if you think that River Ridge is the right place you should at least go see other places. It will probably be a better idea to keep your options open and just size one or two more up against your current favorite venue. You may find one that you like better or it may just reaffirm your choice. ] 8/7/2010 1:22:58 PM |

I think the reason why I don't want to look anywhere else is because the only places I would want to look at completely don't work. I love Haywood Hall... but you can only have 150 people max including all staff. That is just a total no-go :\ I'm still considering it but was wondering if I was crazy or had other people had this feeling before

sooo.... I'm about 3.5 weeks away from the big day.
It's actually not bad, as the planner has everything under control. My biggest ruh-roh is that I don't have a hair stylist yet. My original butchered my hair back in July (I'm just glad she did it then, not the weekend of the wedding), and I have yet to get a replacement. It sucks, because I can't meet anybody in person to decide if I like them or not.
I have to say though, for planning a Charleston wedding from NJ, this has not been nearly as stressful as I anticipated. YAY 8/12/2010 12:08:53 AM |

So today I went to Barnes and Nobles... Got 2 bridal magazines... Tonight I went through and clipped stuff out that I liked to put in my wedding book on the "inspiration" pages.
I literally gasped when I saw this dress:
It's by Jenny Packham (who by the way, rocks as a bridal gown designer) so I would never be able to afford the dress... but now I have a major goal to find a dress similar. I love the silver accent buckle things under the bust.
I'm being such a girly girl tonight. Bridal magazines and Sex and the City. 8/15/2010 1:15:23 AM |

and awesome butt:
I'm so in love with it. Although it was a difficult decision because there were 2 other dresses that were beautiful, too. I was considering just getting them all and waiting for a few months to see which one sticks... Dianne's Bridal in Rocky Mount is where I'm getting it from. By far the BEST prices imaginable, and hands down the best, most personable service. http://www.diannesbridal.com/ Oh, and 50% off!

So where is everyone in the planning process? Did anyone hire a wedding planner? Our wedding will be next October and we only just now reserved the reception location and the church. I have been so nervous about actually booking these places because I felt like I was going to have to juggle with dates. Luckily, everything seemed to fall into place. And we had decided on a photographer long before now(about a month after the engagement). http://www.michaelmoss.com/
I know a lot of people are doing cupcakes, but dusty and i really just don't like cake. We're thinking about doing a cheesecake something like this (but probably a lot simpler): Is it tacky?

^^ I like that idea a lot. I have noticed some of my friends are going a "dessert table" instead of cake and I even heard about a wedding last year that was in a barn where every family member was asked to bring their favorite pie. That was really awesome and fit their back yard country barn theme perfectly. Seriously, do what suits you. It's your day and you're probably footing some if not all of the bill.
I am doing cupcakes but I know they are just a fad. We aren't really thinking so much about the desserts since we will have a candy bar for favors.
Quote : | "So where is everyone in the planning process? Did anyone hire a wedding planner?" | I did not hire a wedding planner and I am 11 months out. I have my dress, veil, my BM's gifts, booked a ceremony and reception venue, and met with but have not booked yet the photogs we want. We have send out all our save the dates. I am also in talks with a DJ but nothing solid as of yet and I have finished my wish tree. I have purchased all the fabric for my napkins but I am only finished cutting one of the colors so I still have about 75 napkins to go.
I still need to: Help my future mother in law finish my bouquet and all floral parts of the table centerpieces (MY LANTERNS CAME IN THE MAIL AND THEY ARE PRECIOUS!), my shoes and make up, caterer, rental tables, and rehearsal dinner. Looks like a LOT...yikes..and that's not even all of it...lol

Didn't hire a wedding planner. occamsrezr thinks they're a complete waste of money since I like to micromanage events in the first place and our wedding is going to be low key anyway.
We're doing the dessert table sort of because I know some of our guests despise cake, so we'll also have pies, cobblers, etc.
We have the venue, caterer, and photographer booked. The wedding dress is bought. Flowers are mostly done. Rentals are done. Most of the stuff left is figuring out little things like wtf to do for the guestbook. 8/17/2010 11:14:34 PM |

Go for the cheesecake if that's what yall want! The display in the picture is uber-cute. We're having a 6" round cake for cutting purposes only really, and the rest will be mini-desserts (mostly petit-fours). We're using cupcakes because we like them, and it'd be hard to get all the flavors we wanted in a single cake (without it being five layers and stupid expensive).
I hired a planner back in early March. We had already picked a date and reserved a venue, but the hassle of planning a wedding in Charleston from NJ was not something I wanted to deal with. Not to mention, having them around has saved me loads of money. I got discounts (to the tune of several hundred per vendor) for photog, music, gown, florals, decor, rentals, and officiant. If you're very DIY and willing to spend time researching vendors/negotiating prices, and you can actually have meetings with most of them, then having a planner probably wouldn't be worth the extra money.
oh- and I'm 18 days away

we also didn't get a planner because, well, i'm fairly certain we're both perfectly capable of planning a wedding ourselves (especially given the plethora of sites out there that give you checklists of things you need to do and when they need to be done by)
that said, i think there are times my fiancée wishes we had someone to push everything off on, whose job it is to manage it all...we both work full time (and i'm in grad school), so time is limited...the thing is, we're both pretty controlling and so i suspect a planner would be paid more for peace of mind than actual planning
one of my fiancée's aunts is our day-of coordinator...she owns and manages a pretty successful catering business, so she should be perfect...also, she sees it as a huge honor and is very excited about helping out 8/18/2010 9:22:34 AM |

we're about 10-11 months out. we have venue, catering, photogrpaher, videographer, baker, florist, officiant, hair/makeup....i may be forgetting something
we have not hired a planner but it would not surprise me one bit if we do in the near future. however the manager of the venue we're at acts as day of coordinator if we want him too
im planning on save the dates being sent in november-ish the invitations are being designed right now as we speak.
my wedding dress will be started in january. the bridesmaids dress(es-we may be having a "reverse" wedding....dinner first then ceremony so that means they get two dresses-one of their choosing and then one white one of their choosing )-we're gonna take 'em on a mini shopping spree about 6 weeks-1 month before. same with the mens suits.
hmmmm. i dont think im forgetting anything.
except that my guest list is spiraling out of control!

We were also thinking of doing cheesecake if the caterers didn't have a "mini dessert" option. We're both not big cake people and a lot of people don't even eat it at the wedding. It's not tacky....it's smart!8/18/2010 9:48:17 AM |

MOTHERFUCKIN CANDY BAR
but in all seriousness, we're having a "penny candy" bar. It will have yummy candy like gummi bears, skittles, sour patch kids, peach rings, etc etc... not your typical chocolate covered candy bar. I have yet to decide if we'll use those old fashioned bags (with cute stickers) or boxes. I think bags have that old fashion feel. I'm going to try to collect different types of glass jars and silver scoops 8/20/2010 8:57:58 AM |
wolfpackgrrr All American 39759 Posts user info edit post |
We're probably going to skip favors. It just seems like an unnecessary expense when we have a very tight budget. Plus we're going to have way more dessert than we need so I'll probably put out cute take-out boxes for people to bring home seconds if they want. 8/20/2010 9:16:58 AM |

Honestly, the only reason we're doing the candy bar is just because I really want one and it's the only way I can justify it plus I think with doing the penny candy we can make it cheaper than normal

our "favor" is the photobooth we're setting up...we're planning on renting one of the commercial photo printers so people can get one to take with them in addition to having them up on the site if they want to order more
they can take as many as they want, but we're only giving them one to take home...at least, that's the idea...we might forgo the printer altogether and just let them order their own pictures 8/20/2010 9:32:13 AM |

The only valuable wedding favors I've cherished were beer/drink koozies, and a lot of his family are not so fanatic about promoting drinking. So I think we're going to try to do donations to local charities as our favors. We'll have a list of 3 that our guests can choose from and we'll donate maybe like ~$3.00 per person for that charity. 8/20/2010 12:56:02 PM |
