i mean the players know they give them out. i just think it's funny to get sent off for getting your second yellow for that reason.
and then your "win" you celebrated because of your late goal is nullified because your team gets scored on while a man down. it's poetic justice. 1/22/2011 12:00:32 PM |

He's definitely not worth 18m but Bent made a difference today, and not just became he scored a goal
re:excessive celebrations
I dunno, I just think if I scored what was essentially a game winner, I'd be so excited and caught up in the moment that I wouldn't even be thinking about yellow cards. It's not like he pulled out a prop or had an elaborate thought out celebration, he was just celebrating with the fans. 1/22/2011 2:47:15 PM |

idk. blackpool couldve had a pk call to make it 3-0 from what im reading. but the announcer also said he thought the ref was right for not giving it. i didnt see the challenge but he made it sound like it was a physical shoulder challenge from rafael in the box.
after rooney came off, it was all united. chicharito probably shouldve had a hat trick with 2 breakaways and a point blank header. berbs prob couldve had a hat trick too cause i think he missed one other good chance. scholes even had a couple good shots that were blocked and saved.
i didnt get to see the first half for why united were down two goals, but i do know it was pretty much all united after the 50th minute and with the introduction of giggs and definitely chicharito.
the whole 10 minutes of extra time was warranted for 3 different injured players and with rafael down with either a neck injury or a concussion. but all the goals were scored before injury time even occurred

im not sure on the goals (didnt catch the replays) cause united had a ton of chances in the 2nd half with through balls and they all looked close...but im not sure why blackpool were playing such a high line on defense. united, and particularly scholes and giggs exploited the hell out of it in the 2nd
chicharito is really good at timing his runs
i do remember one play where berbatov got the ball on the left, and it might have been his goal, that i thought he was offsides. but im mixing together some through balls right now in my head cause united prob had 5-7 through ball passes that fed players in behind the defense in the 2nd half

just watched the higlights...i didnt realize at the time how ridiculous that 2nd goal for united was. both giggs and chicharito take down lofted passes right in their stride and hernandez finishes clinically. brilliant goal..

you right, 2nd goal was class... amazing touch to set it up
also, 3rd was close but I think they got it right.
The non-decision on the penalty was an absolute joke (which is disappointing because I can't see United coming back from 3-0) and whatever commentator said it was the right decision is a dumb ass. That's clear as day 1/25/2011 9:45:30 PM |

Varney's touch was too far away. If he'd had a subtle touch to get out of the way where he could have actually side stepped Rafael and gotten to the ball it would have looked a lot more convincing. But it was a heavy touch and the contact was much more clumsy than anything so it looked a lot better than it actually was. If it was outside the box it would have been a clear foul, so technically it should have been a penalty but we all know that's not how things work. 1/26/2011 12:41:27 AM |

I went back and watched the highlights...Chicarito's touch after the Giggs pass was unreal. That ball was smoking down field and he caught it under the opposite foot with his back turned. That beats any NFL pass reception I've ever seen. 1/26/2011 7:42:07 AM |
aimorris All American 15213 Posts user info edit post |
lol whatever, that is a pen 9 out of 10 times (with the 1 time being in the big clubs' favor because you know goddamn well United gets that penalty at their end)
How easy he went down (players go down "easy" ALL the time for clear penalties) and how bad his touch was (his touch was perfectly fine, Rafael could get up from his tackle and retrieve the ball before it went out of bounds) doesn't matter. Rafael's "challenge" is never going to win the ball. He just runs straight into Varney's path and knocks him over.
Since my team is no longer a "big club" and is not factoring in any meaningful games this season, I've started pulling for the underdogs in practically every game, especially Blackpool. The officiating is clearly biased towards the bigger clubs and it's annoying because United is good enough to win a title without that kind of shit. Basically my problem with this decision isn't because it helped United but because it hurt Blackpool. 1/26/2011 8:29:57 AM |
kiljadn All American 44690 Posts user info edit post |
Nah, Blackpool fading in the second half hurt Blackpool.
Blackpool's RB going walkabout on that last is what hurt them.
Call a spade a spade - any quality team in the world can win 2 up on United if they buckle down and focus in the final third of the game. Blackpool lost focus - as they have tended to do all season when it came down to the end - and they got royally punished for it. 1/26/2011 9:30:58 AM |

I dunno, compared to recent deals for Bent/Dzeko, 22m isn't a bad price for somebody with a goalscoring record like his (112 in 158 at Ajax) and he's only 24
and yeah, I know goal totals are inflated when you play in Holland but I think this is a solid buy

It's obvious Bradley's game is perfectly suited for the Premier League. I hope he gets a decent number of opportunities to make an impact and get a permanent deal this summer. I was getting worried with all those Galatasaray rumors about Bradley... going down to the Turkish league, even to a power there, would have been a huge step down from Bundesliga 1/29/2011 10:07:28 AM |
