Excellently played game by France, deserved to win that one. Rest of the way should be great for the fans being that there are 4 European teams left. Both semi-finals should be great games. 7/1/2006 4:54:29 PM |

those fucking bastards did it. they beat brazil. now we get a france vs. germany match. i hope the jerries beat the shit out the frogmen, like they did in ww2. that's assuming germany beats italy.
should england have done what they should've and beaten portugal, we would've had an axis vs. allies in the semi.

like I said on the previous page, Ronaldo won't be back at ManU
and I'm getting sorta-semi-seriously worried since SAF hasn't made any signings yet this summer, and it looks like we'll be losing Ronaldo AND Ruud
Scholesy's got like a year left in him... Giggsy too 7/1/2006 8:18:47 PM |

Ronaldo will be back. He'll be booed for a bit, but after he scores a couple goals, folks'll come back around.
That's my word. 7/1/2006 9:17:30 PM |

Usually, I enjoy watching Brazil because of the way they play. Most of the time, they make it look effortless. However, today they looked old. France did what they had to do, and did it extremely well. They played the kind of soccer I like to see, and dominated most of the game. Hopefully they'll beat Portugal. As much as I liked seeing England lose, I hate Portugal because of the theatrics of every tackle.7/2/2006 1:12:24 AM |

Man, I try to watch....this shit is horrible. I'd rather watch preseason football.
Biggest sporting event in the world and its just awful...
When you get deep in the tourney, the teams are all good and somewhat even. It becomes too hard to score and too easy to just sit back and play defense, so if one team is slightly better, playing conservative is a huge equalizer.
I'm all about playing "field position" and "conservative" in sports...to an extent. Its already so hard to score, but then throw in that if a team is getting beat close, but outside the box, just foul and theres a good chance you can stop the goal. Play physical inside the box and its too big of a call to make b/c one goal is just too HUGE of a lead.
Throw in some flops...ok, several flops....and we'll just play to a tie and then decide the game with hopscotch.
Afterwards, we will condemn the coach who just couldn't win the penalty shoot-out and say what a great job the other coach did to win....the penalty shoot-out. Even though they both pretty much tied.
Need some rule changes or something...I don't have the answer, I just know this crap sucks. Theres been like one goal scored in last 3 games, including OT's. Garbage.

They aren't changing anything about it. It's too popular. In the grand scheme of things FIFA doesn't give a shit whether or not most of America likes it or not.
To me this is better then any NFL playoff game... personal preference. 7/4/2006 5:01:17 PM |
varsityblues All American 919 Posts user info edit post |
LOL...only speaking the truth man.
Not to mention, a team gets a 1-0 lead, and then its twice as hard to score b/c they've got 10 guys playing defense.
And, a guy gets knocked down and can't get back up. I understand some hits are hard...but some just show how big of pussies most of these guys are. 7/4/2006 5:02:58 PM |

Yeah, I've got (and prob. posted) my own problems with NFL lately. I also realize the rest of the world loves this crap. Its not our fault the rest of the world is stupid.
I like the concept of the world cup and the way the tourney works, but overall it really is garbage.
And to end any game with penalty kicks is absurd.
Also, I can't believe they play 90 minutes to a draw and then their OT is not sudden death. 7/4/2006 5:06:50 PM |
Drageur Veteran 125 Posts user info edit post |
i suggest bowling or darts for you then... a no contact, high scoring sport with frequent upsets and come backs....
i also hate pks, they are useless.

This is my comparison and then I'm done. Maybe...
Colts vs. Texans
Texans are allowed to use 16 guys on defense if they only use 6 on offense. So on offense, Texans run the ball every play, mostly (if not always) unsuccessfully. Colts are good but its too hard to score against 16 players when the offensive maximum is 11 players. And, there are no field goals....only TD's.
So, someone COULD score, but scores are very rare.
In the end, most games will be settled by a field goal contest between 5 players from each team.
Garbage. 7/4/2006 5:12:49 PM |
varsityblues All American 919 Posts user info edit post |
Not looking for high scoring. I think its the exact opposite of what your saying. The underdog gets the advantage of sitting back hoping for the tie, or at least a low scoring game.
But, yeah, darts is probably a better game to watch. 7/4/2006 5:14:32 PM |

And, while I don't really care that much about the world cup....I think the reason why people don't mind it or dont want changes is b/c of history and tradition.
Same reason why some might think that bowl games and no tourney is good in college football. Same reason why it was the 1980's before college basketball got a 3-pt line and shot clock.
People would rather keep an imperfect game than change tradition. Why else would there not be an exact time for everyone to see in the "biggest" sports event on the planet. 7/4/2006 5:26:44 PM |
