Fun fact.
After San Jose, Detroit, Calgary, and Chicago, no team in the West would be in a playoff position if they were in the East.
And now we have come to it. The first page where no Hartford/Carolina player has ever worn the number. We'll just have to get creative.

Finally ESPN got smart and started actually putting the standings in order so I dont have to go counting the top 8 to see if we are still in the playoffs. 1/29/2009 9:58:28 PM |

Well I would agree 100% with that when it comes to their networks, but when it comes to their website, it actually has a pretty decent hockey section. Same goes for soccer, which is non existent on their networks, but has a great section on their site. 1/29/2009 10:30:19 PM |

after the win tonight they're 1 point out. Maybe they'll make a decent run through the rest of the season and squeeze on.
not if they keep playing like the did tonight though, thank god they were playing the lightning 1/29/2009 10:43:10 PM |

Prospect update
http://www.hockeysfuture.com/articles/10907/hurricanes200809_ncaa_prospects_update/
JAMIE MCBAIN:
Quote : | "The most impressive Carolina NCAA prospect is Wisconsin junior defenseman Jamie McBain. McBain has become one of college hockey’s best blueliners. His 28 points — on five goals and 23 assists in 26 games — are tied for 16th in the NCAA and are tops among all defensemen in the country. He’s already surpassed his career high of 24 points set last season with the Badgers and has been a guiding force on a Wisconsin team that’s battling for the top spot in the WCHA.
After leading the Badgers defense in scoring the past two years, McBain was named an alternate captain prior to this season and his breakthrough 2008-09 has the Wisconsin athletic department touting McBain as a Hobey Baker Award candidate. It wouldn’t be out of the question to expect McBain to jump right to the NHL after his college career is over — perhaps as early as next season if he passes up his senior year." |
Quote : | "“He should be an All-American and a Hobey Baker finalist,” says Wisconsin assistant coach Mark Osiecki. “I think you watch NHL hockey right now and he has the ability to play at that level. You don’t want to compare him to players who are there, but his game is very similar to Nicklas Lidstrom’s game. He will block a shot when need be, he is smart positionally and physical when need be, but offensively, his instincts are incredible. That is his style. I think he’ll have a great chance to play and play for a while in the NHL.”" |
ZAC DALPE:
Quote : | "Although he is currently out of the OSU lineup and considered week-to-week with a leg injury, Dalpe has scored 12 goals through 24 games for the Buckeyes, ranking among the top 20 goal scorers in all of Division I and second to only Canisuis’ Dave Kostuch among freshmen." |
DRAYSON BOWMAN:
Has 25 goals and 27 assists for 52 points in just 40 games with the Spokane Chiefs this season.
ZACH BOYCHUK:
Has 15 goals and 16 assists for 31 points in 25 games with the Lethbridge Hurricanes this season.
CHRIS TERRY:
Has 26 goals and 28 assists for 54 points in just 36 games with the Plymouth Whalers this season.
MIKE MURPHY:
This man is INSANE. His team, the Belleville Bulls, is 32-13-2-2, mainly thanks to him. He has started 40 of their 49 games, and has a 2.00 GAA with 4 shutouts and a .943 SV% while his team is giving up an average of 32 shots on him a game.2/2/2009 4:28:56 PM |

Rumor of the Canes trading for either Frolov or Vermette. I really hope those are both false 2/2/2009 5:04:37 PM |
Vulcan91 All American 13893 Posts user info edit post |
I hope to god the Vermette is one false.
Frolov, though, I'd absolutely take him in a heartbeat. We'd finally have a great winger for Staal. Dude is young, durable, explosive, and has been consistently putting up excellent numbers (also only one season in the minus column; take that for what it's worth) on a consistently shitty Kings team. 2/2/2009 5:33:44 PM |
Dammit100 All American 17605 Posts user info edit post |
I'm with you on those rumors. Vermette has all the toughness of Tanabe. 2/2/2009 5:58:38 PM |
IS250tim All American 943 Posts user info edit post |
I'd love to have Frolov along Staal, especially if we could keep Ruutu on the other wing, that would be a pretty imposing line. The question is, what do the Kings want for Frolov. But yes, stay the hell away from Vermette, he's had like one or two good years and they were the years that the Sens were really good, so who knows if it was him or the system. Frolov has tons of potential and I think he'd be great on this team. 2/2/2009 6:14:53 PM |

i just realized what I put on the first post... I DID mean to be in favor of Frolov, but I was so disgusted with the thought of Vermette...
anyhoo, I also wonder what the hell we would give up for Frolov. then again, there's also rumor that Montreal is trying to get him. Maybe we have a guy in our org. somewhere who's dad is a fucking prick so we can send his son to LA. 2/2/2009 6:22:08 PM |

Florida scores in the last minute to send to OT, wins it in OT over TOR. NYR is down to ATL 1-0 and scores with 10 seconds left to send it to OT SO. lose in a SO.
