went to a career fair yesterday with about 2000 other people.
Had about 3 companies that seemed interested in me, and I'll be sending out letters to them today.

thx!

the woman doing my second interview is the same one that did my phone interview and has been emailing back and forth with me - she seems very enthusiastic about me as a candidate

I think the company will be hard pressed to find someone with the same skills, experience and education as me - they might find a more technical candidate and they might find someone who has been in the biz longer but those people will likely not have a Master's degree

I got an offer from one of my interviews from last week. It's a 1 year contract at Talecris in Clayton doing Document Support for Quality. I'll be starting on the 21st.

^Grats! I got a job too. I've been working this past month at an environmental testing lab. It's not glamorous but I like it!

Also there is health insurance.

You have to have the right personality for sales. Its definitely not for everyone.

We've had Ivy League grads come in and be gone in 3 months, and then we have a guy with a high school diploma making more money than anyone else here.

I'd take at least a month between jobs. I'd play golf every morning and GTL every afternoon.

I'm not sure i'd count my last 2 weeks as working... more like waiting around for the new guy to get hired so I can train him so I don't get constant phone calls when I leave.

I am not unemployed, but if you pay attention to my previous posts, you can understand why I am looking for jobs. I had a few interviews and an offer (which I turned down because the money was terrible), but if anyone has any connections in the pharma industry, I would greatly appreciate it. Ideally, I would like to do work in DMPK or other drug studies in animal models. But any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ya'll!

Any structural engineers with communications tower experience (familiarity with TIA-222 would be nice) or decent work experience looking for work in the Cary area? Please PM me if so, I believe my company has/will have an opening.

Corporate shit moves slow, as I'm finding out

in other news, I'm now completely unemployed instead of chronically under-employed.

and because I was only a contractor, I'm not even eligible for unemployment.

If you people put more detail about your prospective field then some of us might be able to ping our connections and see if there is anything out there that is unlisted.

Waaaaaaaay too much senioritis for that. A masters degree quite enough for now. Besides, I don't need any more student loan debt. I did undergrad on a combination of scholarships/a part time job/some parent help early on and still needed student loans. I worked off like 75% of what I owed, and saved up some money before going back for a masters. I'd definitely want to work for a while and pay down the loans again before pursuing any more education. I don't mind being in debt for an investment in education, but I am only comfortable with digging the hole so deep at a time.

All that said, I really do think I am done with school after this. A few PhD students in my program have tried to push me in that direction to join them, but I want to get back out there in the working world, and a PhD doesn't open any more doors or break any more advancement ceilings (unless you're going down the professor track) than a masters in my field at least.

Specific fields may vary, but a doctorate makes you less employable, not more.

Nah. I handle negotiations for a company. High stress/long hours with crap pay and terrible management. Considering hanging my own shingle once I'm fully licensed.

Yeah... I think I may have the same opportunity. Where I work now, its a combination of medical/hospital and academia research. I have been staying in touch with a professional that specializes in a certain field that I want to move into and can because I have the right scientific background. He says that their clinic is getting busier, and so they are going to need the help. I can just make the transfer, and not have to leave.

That's the backup plan. I just interviewed for the same kind of position at Duke Friday. We shall see what happens. But I am pretty happy that these opportunities are coming up.

Just over a year interviewing and over nine months unemployed...still out there looking for something in the Student Affairs field. Postings seem to be picking up, so hopefully something will come along in the coming months...

Best of luck to everyone out there still interviewing as well...

I reminded them of another person who got crucified on a friday like today.

And I told them they better hope to hell I don't come back on Sunday like that guy did.
