Can the VT game still be put on ESPN? I know the gametime is still up in the air, but is the decision to put it on TV still up in the air?

The game time decision and the TV decision are one and the same

Haha, lots of optimism in this thread about bowl games and such...we still have lots of games to meltdown in.

This was a pretty atrocious GT defense. I felt like we could have put up 60+ points if we weren't busy trying to get the running game going to run clock.

I'm still a little nervous about how the D will do against a good offensive team with a more traditional (and experienced) passing attack. Although, it remains to be seen if any of those exist in the ACC this year (excluding us of course) .

My only concern are these 2nd half charges we are letting teams have. While today we struck right back, I can see us having big lead on an ECU, letting them score a bunch unanswered and beating us.

Against UCF it was the running QB that tore us up in the second half

Against Cincinnati it was the second stringers that let up the late scores

The long GT drive in the fourth today was shit, and Wilson made a bad decision on the interception

Defense needs some tuning, but I don't feel like they're slacking late

my take on the defense today.

STUDS.

That one TD pass i wasn't concerned with. Bishop and Wolffffffffe bit on the fake pitch (they were monsters today against the run, especially Wolfffffffe (that one tip he had to break up the pass, considering the circumstances was just manly.). Once they bit it was just wide open, nothing they could do. Other than that, those guys played awesome.

I still say, i don't think this game really tested the 2ndary, the jury is still out in my opinion until we play a pretty traditional pro-set/spread team. However, there were a couple of plays they made to break up passes that were great. CJ Wilson is really coming into his own.

On the other hand, against a typical pro-set offense, the fact that we know how to dial up and disguise blitzes bodes well so its a good tradeoff.

Offensively:

STUDS.

The fact that we left 6 easy points on the field makes the margin look not only more impressive but may have demoralized GT even earlier. However, there were two ticky tack holding penalties on Mattes that killed drives.

Also, Haynes really bounced back today, +1 for him, he'll be fine.

The WR's were men out there today. D.Davis had one dropped pass, that wasn't all that big of a deal, but overall those guys made up for anything they've done earlier.

Remember that 2nd pass Gentry got and flattened the CB. dude almost stayed in bounds for a score, would've been righteous.

the game will be on TV, its just a matter of either ACC Network (12p) or ESPN (12p) or ESPNU (7p)

Awesome game from Nate:
16 tackles, 9 solo, 4.5 TFL, 2 sacks

Defense was stout. Can't ask for much more against that offense. The extra couple days to prepare helped.

And the team responded big in the 4th after GT scored twice in 50 seconds.

We've beat the defending the ACC and Big East Champs. Bring on Bama!

Seriously though, TOB - 1 : Paul Johnson - 0

You MUST have a passing game at this level. How many times do they have to prove it. NC State for goodness sake looked like Dan Marino against us. NC State! CPJ cannot and will not defy this truth of nature. It’s like Gravity and Taxes. You have to have at least the threat to pass at this level."

That Nativebird guy sounds like an ignorant tool with his "NC State? can you believe it?" comments. Nevermind we have the most explosive offense in the ACC. Has he never heard of RW? Just who the hell does he think he is?!?

hell yeah, I was worried he was never going to be the player he was before the accident (and he still may never be) but it was certainly a welcome return to form.

I still think Greene should be getting 80% of the snaps at tailback, but Haynes acquitted himself nicely today.

Bishop and Wolff may never be All-ACC caliber players but they have improved markedly since last season.

Class of the ACC?

We may need to add another quarterback to those Heisman watch lists. NC State's Russell Wilson followed a 333-yard, three-touchdown passing performance against Cincinnati last week with a 368-yard, three-touchdown performance in a 45-28 win at Georgia Tech (RECAP | BOX).
The Wolfpack also might be the best team in the ACC. (Insert your own ACC joke here, but seriously, NC State could be pretty good.) We'll know more next week when NC State faces Virginia Tech, which seems to have finally shaken off the doldrums that led to a loss to James Madison and an ugly first half in a win against East Carolina.
A win against the Hokies would further raise NC State's profile, but the team's conference hopes likely will come down to a two-week stretch in which the Wolfpack face Atlantic Division rivals Florida State (Oct. 28) and Clemson (Nov. 6).

I know everything has a copy-write.....its just a matter of youtube enforcing all of them or not. It could be simply that they enforce the most popular videos, categories, or certain publishing groups etc.

"if we are ranked, we would be 24 or 25, but i doubt we will be"

I don't see us being ranked. If you look at the other teams in the top 25, the only one that has lost to an unranked opponent is #7 Texas losing big to UCLA, but they're not likely to fall all the way out. Everyone else has won, and most big, so unless they decide to penalize Penn State for only beating Temple by 9...

Of games that are in progress or haven't started yet, our only chances that I see would be if 22 WVU gets lit up by 15 LSU, or if 24 Oregon State gets absolutely crushed by 3 Boise State. Barring either of those being large margins of victory, I don't see any place to put us. Looked like Cincinnati was going to put a scare into Oklahoma but they just paid for that turnover.

Great fucking game by the 'Pack today. though. Russell, Mustafa, Nate, Audie, and the receiving corps coming up big. I'm still waiting to see what our secondary can do against a real passing threat and we HAVE to do better in the kicking game or VT will eat us, but overall, I'm pleased. I almost feel like we didn't see the vaunted spread option in full effect, but I won't complain too much about that one!

^yeah. 17 based on my in depth assessment .

^^rankings don't work like a ladders system. Teams can be jumped without losing. Thats how south carolina got ranked so high. Auburn and westvirginia will clear spots for us to come in.

If you look at the top 25. There are only a handful of teams that have better resumes than us. Eventually we will jump all the 1 loss teams.

[Edited on September 25, 2010 at 9:36 PM. Reason : they dont have to lose a 2nd game]

Well, this is neat to know we're only 2 wins from bowl eligible. I know I can safely say I thought we'd be 1-3 or 2-2 at this point.

It would be nice if after a big win on ESPN (the main one, not 2, U, or 360...) against the reigning ACC champ and putting us at 4-0, if we could at least get 15 seconds of mention on SportsCenter. I mean I realize there were some big games today but a quick mention really shouldn't be that tough.

i wish unc would get more press for their scandal.

they barely beat a shit team and had 12 players out, none of which will ever see a field again at unc.

How about the fact that Rutgers may get the default win after some random ass thug is declared ineligible after all...
