You guys turning on Russell Wilson should just shoot yourselves in the face.

He played unbelievably yesterday. He was harrassed the whole fucking game because we couldn't block anyone. We didn't run the ball for positive yards more than 5 times all game for god's sake.

And you are pissed off because he threw an INT at the end of the first half?! Yeah, that sucked. You know what didn't suck? All the miraculous plays he made down field all fucking game.

He made one mistake and you want to crucify him for an otherwise unbelievable game?

You guys need to eat a dick. Go lock yourselves in your room and watch every Marcus Stone/Daniel Evans/Jay Davis/Harrison Beck game from this decade and then get back to me.

And to the guy that said Russell Wilson couldn't carry Rivers jock are you kidding me? Did you even see Rivers his Sophomore/Junior years? Wilson has never had elite NFL bound WR's like Koren or Cotchery. Wilson has never had a dominant running game like we had with TA. Hell, Wilson hasn't even had great college WR's like Tramain, Rico Washington, etc.

That isn't a knock on our WR corps, they work hard and are probably overachieving they just aren't elite players like the guys we used to get.

Don't forget that our defense was top notch Rivers junior season and we still couldn't win games. Yes, he was fucking awesome his senior year but I don't think you'll find many people arguing Rivers was better than Russell thru his first three seasons. If they do, it's because they remember the good without the bad.

I can't even believe that Wilson made that many amazing plays yesterday and people would have anything bad to say about him.

VT was much better than us on both sides of the ball and we almost pulled off an amazing win. Does it suck that we lost after jumping out 17-0? Fuck yeah it does. You know what would have sucked worse? Getting the living fuck beaten out of us like we have the past 5 seasons.

Did our defense collapse a little? Yes.

Did our offensive line shit the bed a little? Yes.

But that's what happens when you combine 5 straight bad recruiting classes against one of the best teams in the country.

Why are we getting pissed that our team played hard and almost won a game we had no business being in?

We've already won more games this season than anyone thought we'd win all year and we almost beat one of the better teams in the country. We're still in the race to play for our first ACC Championship in like 60 years.

What the fuck?

you think 1500 extra student tickets were generated from the 1 temporary stand that was put up? they came up with 1500 because they took unused season tickets from around the stadium and issued the students that waited in the rain actual seats where they could find them. the guys next to us had generic tickets (white with red border) issuing them a specific seat number.

nice try though...

I tend to agree with your post in the other thread that the officiating on the contact of WRs and DBs was just atrocious. The actual PIs they called were lame and the ones they let go were legit. But the precedent was set that the officials were letting their DBs get away with a ton of contact and on the whole I think it worked out more in VTs favor than ours, even with the bogus 2-3 PIs we got in our favor.

Having said that, It might have been the worst from a decision making standpoint of RWs career. Much of that could have been from the play calling leaving him no short options to throw to.

Quote :
"Yeah, that sucked. You know what didn't suck? All the miraculous plays he made down field all fucking game."

He did make some really good down-field throws as we have come to expect from him, but he was also doing what he has being a little bit too much this year - heaving it and letting his receivers bail him out of it.

Which plays? I remember a could of solid balls down the middle of the field. The rest were heaves placed in good spots that still needed some god damn great hands to finish the play.

You've beat us to it with RWs tip lodged firmly in your esophagus.

I'll say it one more time. Russell Wilson had a really hard day and those corners covered our wideouts all over the place.

Virginia Tech played lights out for 40 minutes after we went up 17-0.

And if you take out 2 boneheaded plays we made, we win that football game.

See you in Charlotte, hokies.

wilson didnt play well yesterday

no, circumstances were not in his favor, but typically when those circumstances are not in his favor is when he struggles the most. every time we go up against a really good defense that either overpowers our OLine or comes off the edge with speed equal or greater to RWs it affects him more than it should

he's a great college player not without flaws. just leave it at that. anytime we can bitch about a guy who threw for 360 yards and 3 TDs I'll take it

Wow, I can't believe people are trying to call Russel Wilson out. He didn't have an awesome game, sure. But Jesus, do you people actually watch college football? Its virtually impossible to be perfect game in and game out. Hell, dude still put up 360 yards and we had a chance to win in the last 2 minutes. Which is a whole hell of a lot better than people expected us to do against VT before the season started.

Really I'm more concerned about the 300 yards of rushing we gave up than Russel's sub-par performance.

How in the hell can you say he didn't play well. He had 360 yards passing and almost won the game for us in spite of everything working against us for god's sake.

He would have thrown for over 500 yards if VT wasn't holding our WR's all game and the offensive line could hold a block for 2 seconds.

We're gonna be in for a reality check once we lose Wilson. Once Glennon is starting for us next year, we won't understand how we could have ever complained about Wilson. Not putting Glennon down or anything, he sounds great, but Wilson is exceptional, and would make just about any other qb after him look bad.

Not too upset about this loss...except for the fact that we were so close. VT, and I know they lost to JMU, is a good football team and will probably be in the ACC championship game. I'd like another shot at them....and we just may get one.

As good as Russell's overall stats ended up being, the final 2 picks he threw were very un-Russell Wilson like. Dumb decisions to try and force something that he in no way needed to force. At the same time though, I feel like the offensive play calling after the 17 point lead wasn't setting the offense up too well. Too many up the middle, one yard runs on 1st down and then bombs down field on 2nd/3rd downs.

The offense missed a few opportunities for more separation, but still put up 30 points. The defense has to tackle and make stops. Not sure what happened between the GT game/beginning of the VT game and the rest of the VT game, but it was a total 180 back to last year's type of defense. I'm also not a fan of how TJ Graham has been returning kicks, way too much east/west running.

I think I'm gonna stab someone in the eye if I hear anymore "don't run it up the middle!!!" complaints.

^ Its the level of criticism/hating given his performance that I have a problem with. 360 yards, 3 TDs, and 2 picks (cause the last one doesn't count the same in my mind) is not a bad showing for the average quarterback. I was sitting in front of idiots at the game that were saying put in Glennon for the final drive. And I read a few similar level of comments on here a few pages back .

I don't think anyone is basing their criticism on Russell's stats (which were skewed a bit because of the lack of a running game and being bailed out by the receivers). The criticism comes from some very uncharacteristic decisions and a few throws that were straight up ducks. We've been spoiled by Wilson always staying cool and making the right throw, but it's still disappointing for him to have a bad game, despite the constant pressure he was under.

he threw way too many jump balls. i think some of that was the game plan but he shouldve checked down more.

the first pick wasnt really a big deal given the situation but he got bailed out a lot by Bryan and the other receivers so I think a 3 INT game is fair. The interception when we were up 17-0 was just a horrendous play given the situation. And the one at the end of the game was also very poor considering it was first down and we had time

As I said earlier in this thread, the game was very similar to Boise/VT. Except at the end of that one Kellen Moore led Boise down and scored a TD to answer. Wilson threw a ridiculously dumb interception on first down when he got the chance to do the same. He wasnt good. He wasnt garbage either, but he's capable of playing better.

He kept us in the game against a far superior defense.

What the hell were people watching... We had absolutely no pocket, he didn't take sacks, he wasn't turning the ball over (1 mistake INT and zero fumbles), he was making plays down the field... he was scrambling for his fucking life.

If we started Glennon yesterday we would have lost 56 - 6. Think about that for a minute.

Which do you prefer? Losing on the final possession of the game or losing 56-6?

^ The last INT might have been a 50 yard bomb if our WR doesn't get interfered with. We will never know... The "check downs" you guys are talking about weren't there. Every time we checked it down we got 3 yards. He didn't even have time to check it down, what game were you guys watching? Name 5 plays where he had time to check it down.

The INT at the end of the first half sucked. That was a dumb throw. Okay. He made a bad play yesterday, you guys are right he fucking choked big time and if only we had an infallible QB we might have won yesterday despite being outclassed at every position on the field.

Great.

The last one was a jump ball thrown away from our players. I thought it was the worst one of the lot from a throwing perspective. The one in the endzone was the worst momentum-wise.

You guys are right.

On the 3rd and 17 Russell shouldn't have even thrown the pass if he knew he couldn't complete it with 100% certainty. We should have just punted on 3rd down to catch them off guard. That would have been the optimal playcall there.

On the last INT Russell shouldn't have been throwing the ball downfield at all. We should have simply kneeled the ball and run off the field with a moral victory. After all, he's in the heisman race it's more important to protect his stats than it is to try to win the game.

If only Russell had time to think about what's really important instead of worrying about things like winning, collecting his baseball paychecks, and being the BMOC.

Surely, he would have done the honorable thing and just taken a knee and headed into the locker room at the end of the game.

Yeah. The first one doesn't count -- would have been a punt, anyway. The VT player was dumb for not knocking it down. The other two were just bad. RW trying to do to much. I say we win the game if we have a FG instead of that second pick. VT wouldn't have been able to pound us on the ground

The defense and special teams really lost this game. You can't be successful giving up that many run yards.

You really are an idiot aren't you. The first one no one really cares about. It was better than a punt. The second one KILLED momentum and wasn't even close not to mention he could have ran for twenty yards and a score. BUT the last one was the worst. Sorry bud we had three time outs throw the ball the fuck away and live to play another down. Owen had bailed him out A TON yesterday and couldn't do it that time. But no your right with three time outs it was a good decision to just heave it down field into tripple coverage. Quick thinking bud.

We catch the motherload of all luck by striking gold with one of the best QB's in college football.

Bear in mind this isn't a 5 star, 4 star, or even a guy that anyone has ever fucking heard of...

And he takes a team that is poor to below average at nearly every position to the cusp of 5-0?

i agree with rallydurham.

of course wilson had an off game, the OL was useless in the passing game for the most part. he'd take the snap and immediately have to run for his life. he threw some INTs because he tried to make things happen that were unlikely, but the alternative was to throw it away or get sacked, neither of which would have done us much good.

my point is that there are very few QBs who could have done better in that situation. doesn't mean he didn't have a bad game statswise but i'm not sure what a better alternative would have been. if only we could have a QB who could have waited and stood there and made high-percentage throws with both DEs hitting him, i guess that would be a better alternative.

I say it doesn't count the same b/c tons of good quarterbacks have done the same thing in a rushed end-game situation ::shrug::. I agree it was a terrible decision, but its not the same as throwing a pick in a normal game situation where if you go 3 and out, you can just punt it and make another drive.

The main point here is that anyone that thinks Russel should be benched needs to shoot themselves.

Well, only owen spencer is really notable. The LBs are good, and the running backs aren't special at all. Thats 4 people. So, we are good at 5 positions in total, and we were only better than VT at 2 or 3 positions.

At all the other spots, we are deficient.

Mustafa is a fucking beast, no doubt. He's a potentially GREAT running back. Unfortunately, even a great running back is useless when we can't control the line of scrimmage.

Our WR's are alright. They made some really nice catches. They also had a lot of trouble getting open all day. A good bit of that was because they didn't have time to finish their routes and a lot of that is due to VT's "physical" (I would call it holding) DB's.

Our defense played great in the first half and shit all over itself in the 2nd half.

I just want you guys to fucking realize that VT beat BC 19-0 last week.

ZERO as in ZERO points.

Russell put up 31 points despite the fact we seldom got good field position because our return teams sucked and decided to commit penalties every play.

How many times did our offense go three and out? How many times did we give VT the ball inside the 50? How many times did we commit costly turnovers? How many times did we leave our defense out to dry yesterday?

We had a chance to win yesterday BECAUSE of Russell not in spite of him.

When Philip Rivers was here there was an excuse train lined up from Carter-Finley to campus every week as to why we couldn't ever win football games. And this year it's because we don't have a good QB? You guys are embarrassing.

anyone who think our receivers are "alright" is sorely mistaken. we have the best group of receivers in the acc, not just spencer. spencer, graham, williams, not to mention bryan and gentry. any other QB would kill for that many targets on the field.

I'd like to apologize for being belligerent yesterday.

I'd also like to announce that I'm jumping ship for greener pastures. My friend went to Alabama, and I like elephants...so the transition should be seamless. Mark your calendar, Jaybee1200: October 23rd...the Tide is coming!

Anyway, I'm not sure what I'm going to do about basketball, but I think, in time, I can recondition myself towards the Tarheels.

Of course, according to Murphy's law or some corollary, I expect State to win a major national championship after I've purchased all my new Chapel Hill gear from Walmart. So you're welcome.

i usually agree with rallydurham but definitely not today.

russell wilson, by russell wilson standards, had a terrible game yesterday. he had lots of yards, but i would argue the receivers can take just as much, if not more, credit for that then rw. yesterday his decision making was unarguably poor. play calling didn't help, but there were still several times where the short route was open and he still decided to chuck it up for grabs for 40 yards.

we'll see how things pan out the rest of the season, but yesterday's performance definitely makes college-philip-rivers cry.

rw's still a great qb.

but yesterday terrible.

I had no illusions of going undefeated, and VT isn't in our division so it's not the end of the world...in the grand scheme of things the Clemson and Florida State games are going to be more important to our season. We will rebuild some confidence against BC next weekend, and hopefully pick up some momentum by beating ECU heading into the bye week.
