I was hoping for a France/Germany final. Germany would be kicking France's ass and the frenchys would call us to bail them out.....

I think its funny how people say they hate Germany b/c of Hitler/Nazis or whatever.

Lets see, I guess we can hate America for owning slaves. We can also hate Africa for selling people into slavery. We can hate Russia for communism. China too. Gotta keep hating Japan. Can we pinpoint a middle east country to hate? I think we're supposed to like Iraq now and hate Iran...or is it the other way around?

I say fuck it and just hate soccer.

^ cool dude

wasn't Totti on the assist, it was Gilardino... and that goal is probably my favorite of the tourney. Del Piero was in his own box when Italy got possession of that counter, and he sprinted all the way back down and then capped it off with an amazing finish

if France wins tomorrow, I'll be perfectly happy with either of these teams winning the World Cup. If not, then Italy all the way baby

i can think of at least 3 better goals than that goal. they might not have been as big as that goal today, but they were still better

oh no I totally agree, I didn't say it was the best... just for different reasons, it was my favorite. I think Lahm's goal was better, and I think Maxi Rodriguez is the best technical goal of the cup by far

Maxi ties with Joe Cole. Juninho's wasn't bad, either.

France will PWN tomorrow.

I'm just tired of all the WWII references ignorant college douches apply to... soccer? What the fuck is wrong with you people? All of it stems from knowing jack shit about this game other than it's on every four years when no other interesting sport is on, and while I claim to know jack shit about it myself, I'm not gonna berrate some fucking messageboard claiming correlation between war and football. Grow up.

To be fair, the English hold a HUGE grudge about the Falklands, and the Argies hold a huge grudge about constantly being called savages.

In '02 I was watching Argentina play some random opponent (forget who) in a pub with my friend, and afterwards he told me that the Englishman to his right was very displeased that I'd even imagine rooting for the Argies.

remember that one time during either the second half or the first half of ET when italy had an amazing scoring chance inside the box and the AMAZING commentating of O'Brien/Balboa said nothing during the sequence of events. complete silence. so fucking emberassing.

Why I will probably disagree with you in January, right now I have to say that this is great. What I mean is that you simply don't know what will happen in these games (today, as well as Brazil on Sat.). Today's game had me on the edge of my seat, and I just don't get that during most NFL games. Then again, for most of an NFL game, you can stay somewhat calm. Once the 4th quarter gets around, things start to change. In soccer, however, one single action, early or late, can impact the rest of the game.

Edit:

Also, I don't know if this has been mentioned since Saturday, but Christiano Ronaldo has said that he will not return to Manchester United next year. Obviously, anyone who watched Saturday's game against England would know why.

a funny comment from ESPNs Page 2, DJ Gallo

Quote :
"July 9 -- World Cup Final: Olympiastadion, Berlin, Germany
Most people assume I'm Italian because of my last name, but I'm not. My last name is actually Slovakian. I remember thinking as a kid, though, that there must have been some mistake in charting my family ancestry and that I probably really was Italian. But then, when I was 8 or 9 years old, I started playing soccer; and on the first day of practice, only a minute or two after it started, a kid brushed into me ever so lightly while I was doing a dribbling drill. Just a light bump. The thing was, I didn't immediately drop to the ground and start screaming and wailing and rolling around in the grass as though I had fractured both of my femurs or dislocated my shoulder. It was then that I knew for sure that I wasn't Italian."

the flopping is worse than a Duke basketball player drawing a charge

I think Italy's gonna win the whole thing, but is anyone else gonna be shocked if Portugal make the Final? If there was ever a case to be made for a bunch of overrated never-will-be's in the past (outside of Spain), Portugal would be it.

no, not really - i think portugal is way more talented than anybody has given them credit for - i think this team is way more talented than the one that got so much hype over the last 5 years or so

that said, i think france has still got them today - france's back four has been outstanding - i think they can handle pauleta and co.

^ i wish i was, but God bless TiVo
