So where does this championship put Kansas when talking historical perspective and prestige when compared to Duke, the only other team to have 3 national championships.

Kansas
3 National Championships (1952, 1988, 2008) won by three different coaches
5 National Runner-up finishes (1940, 1953, 1957, 1991, 2003)
13 Final Fours (1940, 1952, 1953, 1957, 1971, 1974, 1986, 1988, 1991, 1993, 2002, 2003, 2008)
Third all-time in wins (1,943 wins) and fourth all-time in winning percentage (71.2%)
51 Regular Season Conference Championships, 1st all-time, 2 ahead of UK (1908, 1909, 1910, 1911, 1912, 1914, 1915, 1922, 1923, 1924, 1925, 1926, 1927, 1931, 1932, 1933, 1934, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943, 1946, 1950, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1957, 1960, 1966, 1967, 1971, 1974, 1975, 1978, 1986, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008)
10 Conference Tournament Championships, note the Big 8 didn't hold a tournament until 1977 (1981, 1984, 1986, 1992, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2006, 2007, 2008)

Kansas has a basketball tradition dating back 120 years to the founder of the game. I think that pretty much breaks any ties...

Duke has Coach K, and had Vic Bubas.

Kansas's program was started by James Naismith. They have since had Phog Allen, Larry Brown, Roy Williams, Bill Self, etc. Adolph Rupp and Dean Smith learned from Phog Allen, not to mention John McLendon, Ralph Miller, and Dutch Lonborg (HOFers). Kansas wins.

Notice in that picture that Roy is wearing his Championship UNC ring.

Nevermind, 20,000 is right. I think Wilt exaggerated b/c for that to be true, he would have had to had sex with 1.14 women per day from the age of 15 up until the day of his death, a rate of almost eight women a week, and they say he was really shy when he was young and didn't break out of his shell until he was older.

just to be clear, i don't think roy should be fired, thats stupid. people talking like that are mentally challenged and most likely never attended the university anyway

cant believe Wilt never won it...also paul pierce went to kansas and he's probably a better nba player than anybody who ever went to duke (though you could obviously argue grant hill in his prime or maybe brand or somebody)

^seriously...i cant even imagine how depressed memphis is...how many "what if" scenarios they've played through their heads in the last ~24 hours

I think mainly just one "what if" scenario...what if we didn't shoot free throws like ben wallace?

yeah but "what if rose had made both FTs"..."what if Hyphenated-Lastname made just 1 free throw"..."what if Chalmers wasn't such a beast"

i'll happily collect my bracket pool winnings since i picked kansas to go all the way, but Memphis SHOULD have won that game and they're not going to forget about it anytime soon...i'll bet the game was like 95% of their thoughts today...it would suck to be them

[Edited on April 8, 2008 at 11:39 PM. Reason : LONG e sound...short e sound is "eh"]

i would have never thought picking kansas just cause it was the team roy williams use to coach for would cause me to correctly make my ncaa bball bracket

when kansas was 20-0 to start this season, them and memphis were the only 2 undefeated teams at the time

that trend apparently played out throughout the tourney
