Not that it matters in this game, but shouldn't we still have officially "won" the challenge since it was a fumble, even though it wasn't clear we had possession? We challenged that the ball was down by contact after all.

would have only won the challenge if they saw that the Panthers recovered

it's kind of like challenging a spot of progress, the refs moving the spot, but the result still ends up being the same when the chains measure

NFC South (3-0) Games remaining (3): @NO, NO, @ATL
NFC West (2-2) Games remaining: None
NFC 2nd place 2012 (2-0) Games remaining: None
AFC East (2-1) Games remaining (1): NYJ

looking good now. guaranteed winning season, 7-2 in conference, 1st in points allowed, 2nd in scoring differential (behind Denver), breathing room against Arizona now (thanks, Philly). 11-5 looks likely, will need to sweep NO and beat ATL to win the division, assuming NO doesn't shit the bed. nonetheless, I will be more than content with a wildcard after the 1-3 start. still mad about Buffalo though.

I really need to start listening to Face more often when he gives out betting tips. Panthers win the SB and he turns $120 into $5,800.

Yeah I'd put them at about 25:1 right now. He did get good value on those bets though.

25:1? Really?

Oddsmakers are putting the Panthers at 10:1 to win the SB right now. If they win the South, those odds go up significantly.

This is a good team but to win a superbowl we need consistent offense. We are flaky at times which still would make it a rough play for me. Payout is insane though.

late arriving, early exiting crowd yesterday. almost Kenan Stadium quite at times, but i'll blame that on Thanksgiving travels and what not. I was worried after the initial TB drive, but stepping up and only allowing 3 was huge for our D. and for the Offense to answer right back afterwards was fantastic. It's great to see us not get down on ourselves after giving up points. We've made long calculated scoring drives in the last 3-4 games after what could have been momentum shifting scores by the other teams. Shows a lot for this team.

I can't speak for everyone, but I was one of the doubters(not haters) earlier, and I never said we weren't good, I simply said at the time we didn't have any "good wins" on the resume and I wasn't going to "crown us" or lock us into the playoffs until we had a good win on the resume.

We now officially have 2 really good wins, and some solid average wins now. I love the swagger the team has right now and I like the momentum we've built up. I hate the fact that our game got flexed next week. I like that we're getting so much attention, but hate that it's a primetime game @NO. Either way we're going to be getting the best from the Saints, can't really catch them sleeping since if they lose tonight they're fighting for the division and if they win tonight they're fighting for home-field advantage, both are hugely important to them.

I do believe that we are a playoff team(if we failed to make them now then Rivera's heat would warm back up, that would be a meltdown of epic proportions).
I do not believe we are currently a top 2 team in the NFC, I think we're arguably the 3rd best team in the NFC as it stands right now.
If we go to New Orleans, and beat them during primetime, then we'll have a case for the top team in the NFC.

We still have some flaws, but we're getting better each week and still beating teams we should beat. I am just curious what is going to happen if we lose 1 game, will it break all of our momentum, or is the team mentally strong enough to just rebound and restart the streak the next week.

While this year has been the only thing saving me from a sports meltdown I am still cautiously optimistic. If they truly want me to believe we are super bowl contenders they are gonna have to go win at NO next week and win the division. If they can't win that game then we are likely looking at the five seed and possibly one playoff win at best in my opinion. If we cant go win at new orleans now I definitely don't see us going and winning there in the playoffs. Wish they would seed the playoffs based on records rather than being the best team in a shitty division. NFC North and East dont deserve a home playoff game thats for sure.

So if they beat the best team in football (probably after tonight) you will be convinced we can be the best team in football? You're a hard sell.

I kind of jumped you earlier about not being a believer LudaChris, but I just thought it was unbelievable that you couldn't see what we were seeing in terms of drastically improved play even before the results came that we can point back to now.

That old cliche "the eye test" does carry some truth.

THE PLAYOFF PICTURE

If the Saints win tonight, they lose to the Rams, and we do split our two games, they would still have a virtual 1 game lead since it would go all the way to 5th tiebreaker, which is NFC Conf record, that we would lose since two of their losses would be in the AFC (Pats and Jets).

If they lose tonight, that Rams/Saints game could potentially decide who gets the #2 seed assuming we split. If they lose that one, it would give us both the same conference record and the next tiebreaker is strength of victory. That's where they add up the winning % of all the teams that both teams have beaten.

We currently sit at 41-43 (excluding division games and counting the Jets as a win since that would have to happen for this tiebreak to be in play.)

They sit at 38-36 (counting the Rams and Seahawks as losses for this tiebreak to play)

Somebody might want to double check those but I think I added it up right.

Conclusion: Pull for the Pats, Jets, Vikings, and Giants every week. Pull against the Bears, Bills, Cards, and Cowboys.

I purposely said we'd be in the discussion for the best team in the NFC, mainly because if the Seahawks do in fact win, us beating the Saints wouldn't necessarily mean we're the best team in the NFC. If the Saints were to win tonight, you'd have to keep in mind that Seattle has 2 of their top 3 CBs out of the game and Harvin is out as well. I still think Seattle wins.

I mean if Seattle wins tonight, then we beat the Saints, can we really claim to be the best team in the NFC, esp. knowing that Seattle already beat us once? I left it opened-ended for that reason, need to see what happens in tonight's game.

You're splitting hairs based on "ancient" results at this point. Seattle and Carolina are both very different teams now than week 1. If they were coming to BOA this coming week we would probably see a much different game.

The question is, can we beat anybody home or away in the NFC? If the answer is yes then we have a claim at being the best.

I say yes.

We'll have a chance to prove it next week going to New Orleans. Our last 2 road games were nail-biters that came down to the 4th quarter(SF and Miami). @NO and @Seattle are the biggest homefield advantages in the NFC. I think we can compete with those 2 teams at home, but I'll be very impressed if we can go on the road and win at their places. Tonight's game should be big, and setting up for potentially an even bigger game next week.

How's the saying go? If you want to be the best, you gotta beat the best.

This CJ injury may have really helped us out. Horton, Addison, and Alexender can all play. That d-line has talent and depth, and they get better as the game goes on. Totally sick and fun to watch.

So wait, I don't even know who we want to win tonight. Like Ribs said, the most realistic scenario of a Seattle win and a Saints-Panthers split doesn't get it done.

So while I'm hoping for a miracle do i just go all out and hope for a Saints win, Seattle loss to SF, and Panthers winning out? Or a saints loss to SEA and STL and a split or better for the 2 seed?

best thing we can do is win out, but baring that, a NO loss tonight and a NO loss to STL would let us split safely

^doesn't get us a #2 seed; we'd lose on conference win percentage tiebreaker if we had the same record as NO with a 1-1 split

here's how i look at it:

Seattle wins tonight:
- we're tied with New Orleans for the division lead, and #2 seed in NFC, at 9-3
- beat New Orleans on Sunday and we're 10-3, homefield advantage in playoffs as #2 seed

New Orleans wins tonight:
- Saints and Seahawks are both 10-2, we're 1 game out of 1st in the conference at 9-3
- beat the Saints on Sunday, we're both 10-3 but we currently have tiebreaker and #2 seed
- win out and Seattle loses twice and we could have homefield throughout

also don't forget, despite us playing in a hostile Superdome on Sunday, the Saints will be coming off a short week...that could be big

^^I dunno...we kind of want one of them to get a conference loss
