face also thought we had no chance against Duke while we built a 20 point lead with three of our best players on the bench (which is also the reason why we lost).

Anyways...I can't hate on Gottfriend for losing this game (and I'm usually the first to blame the coach).

He had to coach the entire 2nd half with his hands tied behind his back: for the majority of the 2nd half we had this on the bench on offense: most explosive player, most consistent player, and best post player. And on defense we had: our best/longest perimeter defender, best shot blocker, and best rebounder (CJL and Howell being the top two).

So our offensive options were severely limited (anemic if you count the fact that Wood wasn't hitting anything), and our defense had to play like touching Duke would give them AIDs (so we couldn't be physical with their guards and they drove at will).

The one thing I will blame Gott for is our end of game situation. We focus too much on getting Wood the ball. I mean fuck...he can't open the entire game for a three, what makes you think he's miraculously going to slip by a screen and get a three in the final seconds when Duke's entire team is focusing on him?? Either have a 2nd option (CJ Williams), or go for a quick 2 and foul. Which is what I wanted since Duke has been known to struggle at the line (see Miami).

So I give Gott a pass for the first 39 minutes...but he gets a chop for the last 30 seonds.

I thought Williams was the last to foul out? I thought it was Howell, Leslie, then CJW in the last seconds after Brown's shot/Duke rebound??

Either way...Johnson wouldn't have been a bad option either. His shot was finally falling this game (hopefully that is a sign of things to come...because he was decent shooter before he got here).

His free throw game is all in his head. You don't make 60+ free throws in a row then start shooting them at a 50% clip. He needs to get that shit out of his head.

And I was disappointed with his game yesterday as well...but its got to be tough getting beat up all game trying to get open. If we had at least one other decent 3point shooter, he might get a little breathing room.

I think he'll tear it up next year once get a couple more scoring threats (Purvis/Warren).

I can see the similarities. On the bubble for the NCAA, long periods of no field goals, end of game plays that result in jacking up a 3 that has no chance. However, this is Gott's first season so hopefully things keep improving.

He cares enough to pout and feel hurt when he fouls out, but he doesn't care enough to actually fix any of his mistakes.

The reach in on the guard after the ball was stolen from him was the worst. Most of the season is done, he's fouling out every game, and there is no effort to stop the dumb fouls.

Either he can't or he won't.

His reach ins get him in trouble but he also deflects a bunch of balls. He also has to reach in because post players can score over him pretty easily so reaching in while they are backing and turning is his best move to stop them sometimes (rewatch the early part of yesterdays game and see how many times he poked the ball away in the post early on).
