Perhaps in the previews Ana is not referring to Shannon as the person she killed that Sayid loved. Ana seems to have some military background or connection of some sort. During Sayid's flashbacks he talked about the woman he loved (Nadia) and how he helped her escape and helped the CIA (?) capture those terrorists and the explosvies to find that girl again. Perhaps Ana may have killed Nadia in some mission gone sour or maybe even on purpose. Maybe somehow Ana, Sayid, and Nadia are linked together. In other words maybe Shannon isnt dead and its Nadia the previews are referring to.

Well they really didn't go into detail, they skipped days, they didn't look at anyone's back-stories, yadda-yadda-yadda. They could have easily made a season out of it but they just hit on certain points and skipped ahead just trying to get it to the present in the one episode. I would love to see Echo's back-story.

It seemed like he was carving notches/tic marks into the wood. Maybe he was counting the days they've been on the island or the number of people he's killed?
