i think MM is a better coach than RB.

i would probably still rather have RB, but only by a small margin.

here's why:

1. RB would covet the job more, and probably coach here longer (age is a factor. i only see MM staying 5-7 years)

2. RB despises UNC, and has experience coaching against Roy

but as far as sheer coaching ability goes, MM is hands-down the best candidate we've talked to in this entire search. what he did at stanford, with their academic requirements and weaker conference, is amazing. starting out 26-0 a few years ago, finishing at 30-2? this guy got STANFORD a #1 national ranking.

imagine what he could accomplish at an ACC school. this is his final chance to be remembered as one of the best all-time.

I have to think though that its the blind leading the blind in this matter.

When one person gets excited oversomething that very well may not be true, the others get excited as well.

We create and destroy the hype.

afterall.....what got us so excited today anyway? Anything credible?

^ exactly nothing credible has been posted yet, except a bunch of speculation. I won't get excited into i hear the word official.

^^that is true

just certain people that have made an extra effort to avoid hype after the Cal debacle are now poking their heads back out

we shall see, but even without this new info, or hype it seems like this thing can't take much longer without fowler being lynched!

Very interesting. I think Montgomery would be a terrific hire...the logic does seem to indicate that Fowler has been working on something.

If that doesn't pan out, though, I am a bit confused. If we do hire Whittenburg, I wouldn't be terribly upset, but his hiring would obviously be seen as "settling" for a fallback.

Of the other names mentioned, though I have no clue who has credibility any more and who doesn't--I'd be happy with Lavin or Gillispie. I'd be satisfied with Gregg Marshall. Not too keen on Kruger. And I'm glad that John Brady's name is no longer being thrown around--I really didn't want him.

I doubt we get MM or RB.

It's just not in our cards.

If we get Kruger, I'll probably stop watching State ball all together.

Whitt or Haith are acceptable, but then I"d be pissed that the process took so long.

Looks like they are gonna do some shit talkin...

Goestenkors, Hatchell & Yow Roast for Charity

The First Annual Sports Excellence Tribute Gala will acknowledge and salute the collective achievements of three of the Triangle’s women’s University basketball coaches.

The Triangle is heralded across the nation for its legendary men’s college basketball teams and coaches. Oftentimes, their female counterpart’s achievements are overlooked. That’s why, this year, the Raleigh Sports Club, North American Sports Promotion (NASP), and sports fans everywhere will pay tribute to Gail Goestenkors from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina; Kay Yow from North Carolina State University in Raleigh; and Sylvia Hatchell with the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. The 2006 Sports Excellence Tribute Gala will honor, toast, (and roast) these honorees and illustrate how important these coaches are to the sport’s community. The combined contributions of these women to the great game of basketball are incomparable.

Sponsor and attendee funds will be donated to each honoree’s designated charity. With one thousand dinner attendees expected, along with national media coverage, this evening will punctuate the enthusiastic support of the Triangle’s hometown teams and to the women who are making sport’s history.

The evening’s festivities include:

Hospitality Reception
Official Welcome
Introduction of Award Recipients
Gourmet Dinner with wine
Venue opens to general public spectators
Roast of Award Recipients
Honoree Speeches
End of Evening

Join University athletic departments, WNBA superstars, and sports enthusiasts from around the globe for a lavish reception, formal dinner, and a great show!

The event is scheduled for April 20, 2006.
Doors will open at 5:30 PM for dinner and reception and 7:30 PM for general admission.

back to realistic replacements, the "gut-feeling" of PackPride is Kruger, which sucks ass. They do say that they are hearing more about Montgomery though, just to keep everyone up to date.

Aside from how lucky we would be to land Montgomery, that point has been made! Can anyone give me a good reason why the hell he would leave the NBA after only 2 years? His record wasn't awful this year and they just had a game last night so I can't imagine he has been in negotiations with Fowler this week.

maybe all this delay is because we're getting an nba guy and the coach in question still has games to coach?
