oh i wasn't disagreeing with him...but he sounded like he didn't know you could unlock the phone and vote. I think some apps don't lock the phone...like AIM for example. Mine hasn't locked yet.

-- I use the ipod as my only source of input in my convertible. I have bluetooth built into my alpine and it's meant for the ipod it's the X001 and I'm excited. One less device!
-It uses M$ Exchange / push
-Gmail oh yeah!


Here are a few things I don't care for
-I can't get 3G at my school(ECU). Edge only. I get stuck paying more. When i go home though...there is 3G.
-Higher payment for the 3G i can't really use.
-Texting isn't a big deal for me...but it might become something I need and I have to pay more for it

I walked into the crabtree apple store tonight at 9:15 and walked out with a 16gb white phone. That is the one I wanted, so I am very stoked.

I have fallen in love with this phone. I am far from an Apple fanboy, but this thing is killer. In the past, I often had to drag my laptop into meetings. The iphone has practically replaced the need to carry the laptop around unless I am doing some serious work.

mine has been occasionally giving me some "no sim" bullshit.

just reseated the sim card, hopefully that'll fix it.

Also I HATE that I have to enter my (*&#$ pin number everytime I unlock the phone. I know why I have to (Exchange requires it to connect I think), but jesus is it annoying. Can't i just make a secret GESTURE instead?

I got to use its map and gps system yesterday driving to charlotte and back. I have to say it was very impressive for a cell phone. Then on the way back got to check the weather cause of all the crazy storms. If they could speed the thing up just a little bit more, I'd be 100% behind it.

i played with one last week in the Harrison parking lot at Umstead. When I zoomed Maps all the way down, the GPS was accurate to the exact position I was in - down to the correct side of the parking space I was standing in. I could walk from one parking space line to another, and the dot would lag a few seconds, but then it would catch up with me and map me directly on the line.

I am VERY happy with 3G speeds.

EDGE is another thing... I knew there was a reason I wasnt impressed with the first iteration of the iphone.

Took it to Wilmington this weekend, where they have no 3G, and it was useable, but not great. As soon as I got back near Raleigh again into 3G territory, speed was great.

Phone has locked up numerous times. Im not getting upset over it 'yet'. I know they have a lot of bugs to work out with the new 2.0 code, and look forward to the update.

As I understand it, turn by turn GPS is a big focus for them. I have also heard rumors that the SDK had plugs for copy and paste (also missed)

Question:
Does anyone know how installing more apps affects performance? At one point, I have had 2.5 screens filled.

I have read, anecdotaly, that the 2.0 UI in general is not as snappy and has more lag and freezes than 1.0, and adding more applications can exacerbate this

Punter, did you use that availability website to decide to go today? If I were you, 'if' its possible, you should go by the closest store to you around 12-1PM on the days they show no availability. Mine was obtained on a day the store was showing 'red', and the shipment came in after opening.

I don't know why anyone would pre-order a product like this. They already know they have your money so they are more focused on getting the walk-ins money. The apple stores both had every model in stock this morning and by lunch time you could just walk in and pick one up (16gb though)

In order to get an iPhone 3G at an Apple Store, you have to remove your corporate discount, buy the phone, then re-apply. Almost guarentees f'n your bill up for 2-3 months -- knowing ATT, maybe more.

Not worth the hassle of fighting over the bill for me.

EDIT: And no, they don't have my money. I don't get charged til the iPhone 3G ships, and if I get pissed, I walk out of this contract within 30 days. So that's no excuse -- apple just prefers you walk into their store and buy a Mac while you're at it.

I'm home for the summer and there isn't an Apple store around here. My father graciously still has me on his contract and fuck if he is gonna drive some where for a phone. He was the driving force behind switching to AT&T but he can barely stand going in the local store here, much less wait in line or deal with throngs of people.
