^^Bummer about Good, but we've got some solid depth on the Oline. Let the shoulder thing clear up, and come back strong next year.

Hopefully Carter is back after the bye week, if not before. Not that we can't get by with the other two guys, but Carter gives us more of a vertical threat at TE.

^ Duly noted, but dude...chill out. Lately you've seemingly been on some sort of personal crusade to cure the masses of their ignorance. I'm assuming your motive for this is not wanting our fan base to sound like a bunch of homerish morons, and while I commend you on the effort, the way with which you go about it, you're more just pissing people off than actually making them see the error of their ways. Not to mention the thousands of State fans who don't post on the Wolf Web and who are as just as ignorant as they ever were. I'm not saying don't set the record straight where it's needed, but choose your battles, and quit shitting all over people when they have an opinion that differs from your own. A lot of State fans think we are particularly unlucky when it comes to injuries. You seem to be of the opinion that we are no more unlucky than any other school/team. Fine. These are both opinions. Unless you plan on compiling stats for every FBS team regarding starters lost due to injuries, games missed because of said injuries and the like, in which case your's would obviously be a more informed opinion...and, were you to do that, I would personally nominate you for NC State's athletic director. Hell, I'd do that now if for no other reason than Lee Fowler is a moron.

I think I remember reading something last year where either russell or TOB said that he tried riskier things in practice to see if he could do them. WHich leads to more picks in practice than in a real game.

He's testing his limits in practice so that he doesnt have to in a game.

This time last year, everyone and their brother was throwing picks in scrimmages but russell only threw 1 in the games he played.

I think he/we will be fine.

I remember last year TOB also said that RW for whatever reason plays much better in games than he does in practice. Not that he doesn't work hard in practice, just that he jumps up a notch or two in a real game.

I am not really too concerned about the stats at all. When it comes to scrimmages, they are too hard to judge. I pay attention to what TOB has to say. That's the one thing I love about him, he tells you like it is whether you want to hear it or not. My prediction for the game:

NCSU-24
USC-23

^^^My favorite part of the article is the stark difference between TOB and Butchy.

Butch:
Quote :
""We had some significant hurdles to overcome," Davis said. "We were dramatically undertalented in 2007 and two recruiting classes later, we're a little bit better. You can talk about changing the culture, the attitude, the atmosphere, the expectations of the program inside the building, but it's still about the athletes," Davis said. "You still have to go out and recruit talented players, and that takes time to enhance your roster.""

a.k.a. - coach speak, blah blah blah, i need more talent and more time, blah blah blah.

TOB:
Quote :
""It's a different year, and in your third year you ought to be a better football team," O'Brien said. "We don't need measuring sticks; we need to win football games. That's the bottom line.""

a.k.a. - no excuses, time to win some effin' games.

I love it!

^ Bitch Davis is basically saying that all he can do is recruit athletes, but has no skills to actually make them better players or the ability to inherit players and make them better. He and TOB could not be more different.

"Pack looking for answers

Loss of Irving, transfers, depth leave N.C. State with more questions
BY KEN TYSIAC - Staff Writer
Published: Wed, Aug. 19, 2009 05:19AMModified Wed, Aug. 19, 2009 08:03AM

RALEIGH -- Despite the lack of a competition for the quarterback job, the early portion of N.C. State's training camp has been eventful.

Linebacker Nate Irving delivered the most sobering news, explaining that injuries suffered in a June 28 car crash would keep him out for the season.

The team added a junior college transfer at defensive end, Michael Lemon, who once showed promise at Georgia before getting derailed by difficult personal issues, including his mother's murder and his guilty plea on a battery charge.

Safety Jimmaul Simmons' unexpected departure on the opening day of camp thinned the defensive backfield. And some information that coach Tom O'Brien hadn't released to the media leaked out on the team's Twitter page, confirming that sophomore starting quarterback Russell Wilson continues to shine.

Tuesday was the 16th day of the 31-day training camp, the halfway point of the team's preparations for the Sept. 3 opener against South Carolina at Carter-Finley Stadium.

Here is a recap of how the team's five biggest preseason questions have played out in the first half of training camp:

1. Who will replace Nate Irving at linebacker?

This is still uncertain, but there has been some movement. Redshirt freshman Terrell Manning, who was one of the most highly sought recruits in North Carolina in his class, moved from field linebacker to boundary linebacker, which is Irving's position.

Manning is competing with sophomore Dwayne Maddox, who replaced Irving during the three games he was injured last season. The move demonstrates the coaching staff's confidence in Audie Cole, a first-year starter who's considered a rising standout, at field linebacker.

O'Brien has said Manning seems more comfortable in traffic at the boundary position than he was at the field spot, which requires more pass-coverage skills. Manning showed that with a team-leading four tackles for loss in the second scrimmage, but the position remains up for grabs.

"I don't think it's going to be settled until we get ready to make a depth chart for the South Carolina game," O'Brien said. "The last one left standing may be the guy."

2. What's going to happen at right offensive guard?

This is the only position on the offensive line where the starter won't have at least 13 starts under his belt.

Along with boundary linebacker, it might be the fiercest competition in camp. Senior Andy Barbee, who played a modest 159 snaps last season, is being challenged by redshirt freshman R.J. Mattes.

This competition seems destined to go down to the wire. Regardless of who wins the job, this will be a position opposing defensive coordinators will be quick to target once the season starts.

3. How much will Dominique Ellis' transfer hurt the defense?

Early reports on senior cornerback Koyal George, a former walk-on wide receiver, have been good.

He outfought a receiver for a jump ball interception during the opening scrimmage. Although George struggled last season in a backup role, O'Brien said his confidence and understanding of the defense has improved.

George admitted to being nervous last season. He said he is bigger, faster, stronger and better prepared.

"This year, I guess I'm starting to relax and starting to read more keys," he said, "and I'm starting to focus more, and it's helping me limit my mistakes."

4. Will Toney Baker be able to play a prominent role?

Baker, a senior running back, probably has been the most pleasant surprise of the early portion of training camp.

After missing all but one game of the past two seasons with a knee injury, Baker looked tentative and rusty during the spring game. But during the first scrimmage of the fall he caught O'Brien's eye by demonstrating some bursts of the speed that helped him lead the Wolfpack in rushing in 2006.

Baker turned a short pass into a long gain in the second scrimmage, after which he received more praise from O'Brien.

The Wolfpack already has one proven senior running back in Jamelle Eugene.

If Baker can return to something resembling his old form, N.C. State could have one of the best backfields in the ACC.(my emphasis)

5. Who's going to punt?

O'Brien hasn't announced a winner in the competition between junior Jeff Ruiz and freshman Chris Ward, but this area is less a concern than it was coming into camp.

That's because Ward burst on the scene with two punts for 97 yards in the opening scrimmage.

"I've come in and have had little mechanical issues that I need to get fixed, but coach [Jerry] Petercuskie is working really hard to get me down and I'm starting to get more consistent on my punts," Ward said on the team's media day on Aug. 10.

Although punting statistics weren't provided after the second scrimmage, O'Brien sounded satisfied with both punters that day."
