no. it's not possible. despite what dillydaliant said, you don't watch this show for the story. it's about the people involved. the story is secondary. asking someone for a short summary of LOST so you can watch the series finale is retarded. do something else with your 2.5 hours.

Oh, come on. I was just kidding. I realize that the show/characters are more complex and that the main purpose of the show is the growth and development of the characters.

I heard this episode is a game changer.

So i'm assuming the heart of the island is dead, which is why the water was so dark and sayid wont healed.

soooooo the list is the people who were candidates to protect the light

the light is kinda cheesy

i hope it gets uncheesy but

AND the commercial they just showed a few breaks ago for the season finale looked ULTRA its a wonderful life

that is the ultimate cheese.

He didn't know shit. Jacob's been on the island for 2000 years now. I think we can assume he's figured some shit out.

The rules have been bullshit since MiB said "one day you can make up rules that every one will have to follow"

The rule that i think is still valid: MiB can't kill Jacob. Jacob brought everyone to the island and if anyone can take the job (ie kate) then anyone MiB killed could've taken it.

and we don't know how long jacob has been there... writers have stated that there isn't enough evidence to say when that episode took place.

The actor playing Jacob said it took place 23 AD. That's the same date that was in the spoilers before the episode aired.

oh word, maybe the writers were saying that theres no evidence for which part that was, since the episode took place from birth to when they were adults, because the question was asked in reference to a specific scene.

but not just anyone could take the job. jacob told them he brought them all for a reason, which was because they were all flawed and alone like he was.

Obviously not everyone (for example he would never have let ben do so), but i think theres a good number of people who he would've given the job to if the situation had be right or if he was in such a need to do so like he was at that time. Beggers can't be choosers.

eh...everything seems so half-assed & rushed now. Richard gets Lapidus'ed and we'll probably never see Miles again. A season of redemption & humility for Ben goes out the window in five minutes. Fuck not knowing where they were going to end the show after season 1, they are directing this show like they didn't know what the fuck they were going to do 5 weeks ago.

based on the Bill Simmons podcast with Carlton Cuse today they really didn't have it planned from season 1 like everyone wants to believe.

Whoever said that the conversation Jacob had with Jack, Hurley, Sawyer and Kate didn't hold much weight was way off. Everything Jacob told them he clearly knew. He told them what turned his brother into the monster, he told them why he chose them to bring to the island, he told them that the monster tried to kill him and figured out how, and he told them that one of them has to protect the light. All these things we know to be true and Jacob knows to be true. What that he said could he not have possibly known just because he doesn't know the exact origin of the light or the island? I thought that whole scene was really intense and awesome.

And whoever said Miles won't show back up in the finale was wrong, too. He's still around for a reason. There are a lot of dead people on the island he can talk to. I bet Lapidus and Richard show back up somehow, too. I am, however, pretty upset with how they treated Ben's character in this episode. All the progress he showed this whole season, all the redemption, they threw out the window without the proper development. He just decided, really out of NOWHERE, that he wanted to be selfish again and he wanted the island to himself again. I know that Miles talked to Alex, and that got him upset, and the stuff about Widmore meeting/talking to Jacob, but still...I don't feel like they're doing Ben's season of redemption justice.

I'm not totally giving up on Ben. So far, all he's done is kill the man responsible for his daughter's death. Can't really blame him for that.

i think miles talking to alex along with widmore showing up is what did it. ben still obviously held a lot of resentment toward widmore, and he failed to kill penny when he had the chance. ben has become emotionally compromised on more than 1 occasion, so i don't really take it as a surprise or them screwing up the direction of ben's character. if anything it's typical of who ben is.

"you don't watch this show for the story. it's about the people involved. the story is secondary."

on the season 1 dvd there's a behind the scenes interview thing with JJ Abrams. JJ was like--"Damon brought me this script about these people who crash on the island and have no way to get off. His premise was that each episode would be about the peoples struggles on the island and explore their lives before they got on the island. I said it was an interesting concept, but that viewers would get bored with it fast. So I told Damon to make the show about the island and to make the island mysterious...keeps the side stories about the characters if you want, but make it about the island and that would get people hooked on the show and keep watching. Damon didn't know what the hell I was talking about at first, but he did what I told him to do."

After I saw that 5 seasons ago I thought JJ Abrams was the smartest man alive. 6 seasons in...he was absolutely right. If this show was just about the people on the island and each episode only revolved around the flashback of one of the characters, viewers would stop watching before the season was half over. Put an imaginary dinosaur in the woods during the pilot episode and you've got everyone hooked for 6 long years full of filler episodes about these stupid characters.

They sure got us real good on this shitty show...

To me, that's pretty obvious since Desmond wasn't introduced until the second season....

^ i based my comment of a podcast with damon and carlton, two people who have had their hands all up in the show and its intricacies, where they explicitly stated that the show was about people, not from someone who's barely had much influence on the show since its inception.

I think Ben is going to play a big part in killing Smokey. Right now I think he's trying to con him -- if anybody can out lie the smoke monster it's Ben.

Still no word on Lapidus. Maybe he'll show up in the finale -- he'll enter the scene heroically riding Vincent carrying Bernard and Rose on his shoulders.

I, too, loved this episode.

I'm with Rat Soup that this show is about the characters. Maybe Charlie is right that without the mysterious shit on the island, the show gets cancelled, but without the people on the island, this would be a terrible show. What's really important are the characters and their development.

Anybody have any idea how in the hell Desmond's resistance to electromagnetism would prevent Locke from leaving the island?

Also, this is gonna sound really cheesy, but I got really, really happy and excited when Jacob told them that he brought them there because they were alone and flawned and they needed the island (implying that they needed it because they needed to meet each other). For some reason, that made me really happy to think that they really did need each other.

I thought that Widmore was going to use Desmond to somehow exploit the EM power the island has, like maybe going into the light and doing something.

But I don't know how that would keep smokey from leaving the island unless Desmond would somehow kill smokey by going into the light . . .
