He used to hear the scousers sing, Torres, Torres. Now Ashley Cole's inside his ring, Torres, Torres. In six months time he'll hate his life, I bet John Terry fucks his wife. Fernando Torres, Chelsea's new rent boy! 2/3/2011 7:02:55 PM |

Quote : | ""The fee for Torres was dependent on what Newcastle asked for Carroll," Henry said, explaining that Liverpool wanted Carroll, plus £15m, to replace Torres. Together with the £6m sale of Ryan Babel to Hoffenheim, that effectively financed Liverpool's £22.8m signing of Luis Suárez, meaning the club bought two strikers but net, spent almost nothing. "The negotiation for us was simply the difference in prices paid by Chelsea and to Newcastle," Henry said. "Those prices could have been £35m [from Chelsea for Torres] and £20m [to Newcastle for Carroll], 40 and 25 or 50 and 35. It was ultimately up to Newcastle how much this was all going to cost. They [Newcastle] made a hell of a deal. We felt the same way."" |

So, I'm guessing that Newcastle got wind of the Torres deal and Liverpool/Newcastle colluded to rip Chelsea off as much as possible? That might be illegal. 2/4/2011 3:04:18 PM |
aimorris All American 15213 Posts user info edit post |
what's illegal? Chelsea wasn't being forced to buy Torres. They willingly put up the 50m
Anybody could see Liverpool was going to buy a new forward with money from the Torres deal, it wasn't some big secret

Yeah but if Liverpool and Chelsea had set that deal up and word of it was leaked to Newcastle before it was public knowledge, it would be at least interesting to see if Liverpool and Newcastle colluded to extort money from Chelsea. I think everyone in the world agrees that 35m for Carroll was genuinely outrageous. 2/4/2011 3:35:54 PM |

I think it's fair to say that when a club that is better than you is weakened financially it can only be good for you.
Look, I'm not saying it definitely played out that way. I'm just sayin... 2/4/2011 3:43:40 PM |

If that is true and there was collusion, how would the FA handle that? I can't see any way they can "punish" the guilty teams. An enormous fine maybe? 2/4/2011 3:56:01 PM |

I'm in with Liverpool. I really like John Henry and he did a fantastic job rebuilding/restoring the Red Sox and did it the right way. I'm sure he'll do the same with Liverpool.
Especially with West Ham being a Mets-like disaster...

^^ He made some good signings in the window, but the defense is porous as shit as games wear on. I kinda wish he had brought in a solid CB or two so they could stop giving up these late goals.
goddamn Ian Evette just rocked himself after an amazing clearance off the line for Blackpool, hope he's ok

So Szczesny gets the yellow after Nolan puts him in a headlock?
I mean he should have handed over the ball after the PK went in, but Nolan wrapped him up and threw him on the ground. Either way...

^^ get outta here with that.
Nolan did put his arm around him going to knock the ball out of his hand but 1) He was acting like a bitch and 2) He went down in heap play acting to the ref after not giving the ball up.
Dude got what he deserved.
