Kinston's Brandon Ingram (top ranked senior in the state) cut his list in half. We made the cut:

don't really want him. players with handler issues/can't pick a school to go to even after school has started/etc. are bad news. not bad kids, but they will pretty much always have eligibilty issues.

We were one of the 7 finalists when he trimmed his list in August. He's more of a scorer than a distributor at the high school level so some of the recruiting sites list him as a SG.

From what I've gleaned from the recruiting sites...the feeling a month or two ago was NC State led. The feeling now is that Texas leads. Nobody knows until Tuesday though.

Barring injuries, transfers or drafts (Cat possibly, we'll see this season), we should be fine in 2015 and don't necessarily need anyone... but it would especially be nice to have another true point guard on the roster to back-up or take over the point guard position in 2015/2016. We need another Alex Johnson.

Those are three pretty common events to exclude, especially when you consider Cat's history of concussions. It's a terrible idea in general to have only 1 scholarship PG on the roster, and we've seen how that can play out before (remember the Gavin Grant experiment at point guard?). We need to pick up a PG or at least a combo guard in 2015, and if we have to hedge on a mid-level talent to add depth at a crucial position then so be it. 2016 is going to be the make or break class for Gottfried though, with three in-state players ranked in the top 10 (Harry Giles, Dennis Smith and Edrice Adebayo).

we do have terry henderson, transfer from WV, sitting out this year...so he'll be a new comer next season. but i really haven't followed recruiting too much lately. i know we're pushing hard for brandon ingram right now.

some of what i've read on other sites seems to indicate that we're pretty heavily involved with some 2016 recruits. so maybe 2015 is just gonna be a quiet class. dunno

Brandon Ingram (consensus 5 star/top ~25 SF from Kinston) was at the game last night and sat behind the bench. "Insiders" on PP seem think we have a shot at him but we'll have to fight off the blue bloods.

^ yeah, it seems like Gott is shooting for very highly ranked guys in both the '15 & '16 classes. not sure what the backup plan is, if any.

Malik Newman and Louisville decommit Antonio Blakeney are the other two names I've heard mentioned for '15, but not sure what our status is with either. Both are 5 star SGs ranked in the top ~20 of their class. Speculation is that Blakeney will go to a Nike school, so that obviously isn't in our favor if true.

no commits for 2015. doesn't even seem like we're targeting too many guys. brandon ingram is probably our #1 target, but he's also being recruited hard by duke, unc, kentucky, and kansas. so i'm guessing we're a long shot.

i think 2016 is probably going to be where the staff puts a lot of focus since the 2016 north carolina recruiting class looks to be pretty strong.

like we've seen in years past with a late commit (leenard freeman) or transfers or juco guys this staff will likely bring somebody in like that if they can't land a top guy in 2015. since we're only set to lose dez lee and turner (and add terry henderson), i don't think bringing in a huge class, in terms of quantity of players, is a top priority.
