We're gonna end up with Marshall. We aren't getting barnes or miller or any other big name coach. It's best if we all face that reality. I just hope yow knows this and doesn't let the good mid major guys slip through her hands as they go off to ga tech and mizzou and tenn while she's dicking around with miller. Meh

^^ you right!

start up the bus to get Debbie Yow out of town because she will invariably pick a coach that some unrealistic / self-deprecating jackass on a message board doesn't support!

He'll of course be too old / too young / too white / too black / too high-profile / too mid-majory / too proven / too unproven / have too many NCAA appearances / not have enough NCAA appearances / lose too many players to the NBA / not groom enough NBA quality talent / too methodical / too passionate

I live in California and had lunch with Debbie Yow's abortionist this afternoon. He didn't say anything about the coaching search though

"But State fans looking for a glimmer of hope will see one there. And maybe there is one. It was an odd moment. If Miller wanted to send a message, that’s how he would have done it. Who knows?
Earlier, while discussing Arizona’s tradition, Miller referred to himself in a somewhat odd way, given the rumors swirling around.
“You look at the history and tradition of our program under coach (Lute) Olson, players, teams, we take a backseat to nobody,” Miller said. “I happen to be the coach right now, and we’ll see where we go. We’re proud of going 29-7 on the year.”"

I spotted Prince tonight at the RBC Center. Hearing reports that it is pretty much a done deal at this point. Plus his band was decked out in red and black.

Personality problems and a slow paced offense are great recruiting tools. I just see him at best as having a Sendek ceiling. Hopefully we are trying to get past mediocre at this point.

How much influence do you think Tommy and David have this time around?

IIRC - didn't Burleson play a role in the last search?

Someone tell me about Mark Turgeon.

I know he got to the Sweet 16 with Wichita State, and I know he's moved Texas A&M back to the upper echelon of Big 12 teams (though they've got knocked out of the NCAA tourney in the 2nd round 4 years in a row). Also seems to be a decent recruiter, judging from the classes he's pulling into College Station (which couldn't be easy to do).

But does anyone know anything about how his teams play? Uptempo? Stingy defense? Free-flowing offense? I don't think I've ever seen a Mark Turgeon-coached team play.

I think the so-called personality problems are blown out of proportion. As for the slow offense, it isn't that slow, and his teams this year were first in the MVC in offensive and defensive efficiency as well as rebounding. That's a pretty solid trio that I doubt you will find any other team in the NCAA led their conference in all three.

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/statistics/team/_/stat/scoring-per-game/seasontype/2/group/18

http://kenpom.com/team.php?team=Wichita%20St.

Wichita State averaged 72.3 ppg leading the MVC which is more than your boy Sid Lowe's offense averaged at 70.7. You got to think about what talent is in place and moving to the ACC, his teams would average more since you are all about high scoring. High scoring /= winning. Marshall's teams always are near the lead in defensive numbers as well. In other words, his teams are pretty damn solid. I would love to see him get a chance here if Miller doesn't take it. He is going to win wherever he goes.

alot of people (especially nationally) are talking about a rebuilding process when referring to the opening...am I alone in thinking that is totally incorrect (assuming everyone stays, which is looking likely)?

Yeah, whoever comes in will do at least as well as Sid did, that's for sure. 5 conference wins? Anyone can pull that off with our talent.

Or perhaps they mean rebuilding in the fact that we havent done shit in the last 5 years and our program is looked at as a joke by most of those people.

we have the tallent they just need to get the discipline which is what we need a coach for.

I agree that i wouldn't call that rebuilding and honestly i hope we get a chance to be an underdog team with an awesome coach... I like blindsiding people.

if we get Marshall I predict CJL and Harrow transfer after Marshall punches both of them in the face when they show up 2 minutes late to their first team meeting

http://blogs.newsobserver.com/accnow/calipari-says-he-came-close-to-coaching-wolfpack-in-2006

Quote :
"NEWARK, N.J. — Kentucky coach John Calipari said today that he “came close” to taking the N.C. State basketball job in the spring of 2006.

“I liked the situation there because it gave you a chance to get on the same footing with the Dukes and North Carolinas — like ‘let’s go, let’s have it,’ ” said Calipari, whose team faces Ohio State on Friday in the East Regional semifinals at the Prudential Center.

The job eventually went to Sidney Lowe, who was ousted almost two weeks ago.

Calipari isn’t seen as a candidate this time for the Wolfpack, but called the job a “terrific one.”

“Someone will go in there and do a really good job,” he said."
