Gottfried is terrible so far. We play zero defense all season highlighted by a poor shooting team like unc lighting us up.

Gottfried will ne gone soon, he just wasn't ready for acc level play. I predict we miss the ncaa tournament next year too

We are a better team definitely. Both CJs have improved and Zo is having a decent year at the point but it's hard to quantify how much we have improved with this being the worst year in the ACC possibly ever from top to bottom..

Seriously- loved the defensive gameplan. Nothing you can do about guys who have 0 history of lighting it up, lighting it up. CJ Leslie has really blossomed and he ate Henson's lunch offensively.

Another L to carolina, but i really love what Gottfried and the staff is doing with this team.

*Side note: Scott Wood is horrendous

^^ no. we played zone and did a pretty good job of limiting their production inside the paint. We forced them to take the outside shots, and they made them. I was perfectly fine settling for Kendall Marshall from 3.

kenpom says that was our best offensive performance of the year other than the Wake games, but our second worst game defensively after Syracuse, far worse than the first UNC game.

They were completely uncontested. College athletes will make those shots at a 60% or better clip across the board. That isn't a good gamelan or at the least it isn't good execution.

Marshall is a 35% 3 point shooter in his career so it's not like he's making 1 or 2 of every 10. He can shoot if left wide open and we shouldn't be surprised he made them with no pressure on him.

Just come out and say it. I supported the Gottfried hire and he's had great results recruiting but he's really struggled with the whole "winning games and playing well" aspect of his job so far.

Maybe we'll win games next year but if you had to choose which is more likely ?

Cj Leslie is likely to use his great stretch as a springboard to being a 2nd round draft pick. And then we are right back to square one again.

^^^^If you had told me State would win the battle inside and force Carolina into perimeter shooting, I'd have told you we'd have won that game.

Defensive game plan was solid.

Marshall averages 6 ppg. Can't help he went nuts for 22-24 or whatever. Not saying they couldn't have defended better, but you can't fault the plan.

seriously? i loved the fact that we played a lot of zone. Man to man against unc and we wouldve all been in foul trouble bc the matchups are just that lopsided against UNC. they were 10/19 from 3 pt, and shot 51% for the game.

They outscored us 33-29 in the paint. If you told me that statistic alone i would say we may have won the game if we had any sort of perimeter shooting (3/13).

My point is that yes, they scored a lot of points, but they didn't do it in the way we all thought they would and I don't think anyone would have suspected that Kendall Marshall would lead them offensively from the perimeter. They had yet to really show much as an outside shooting team.

No, it's kind of like he makes 3.5 out of ten. Yet, he went 4/5. Also, most of Marshalls three's are wide open looks because thats the only time he takes them. If you saw this coming either you knew something no one else did or you're lying.

I don't mind playing a zone...we just need to practice that shit more.

A zone is going to allow opens threes every now and then...but it's not suppose to allow THAT many threes, THAT wide open.

We were going to get destroyed by UNC regardless. The zone limited that...barely. If we were actually better a playing a zone defense, then we could have had a chance. Can't wait til Zeller and Henson get the fuck out of here.

I can't find it, but I'm pretty sure Gott said in his post game that we outscored them by ~20 in the paint. Not that it's of any consequence, just figured it should be mentioned.

1 play had me furious and it shows we don't practice the zone much. Marshall got the ball, Wood covered him for a second, then peeled off to get his side of the zone assuming that he was getting help, when none showed. Result, wide open 3.

Also there were a lot of clean passes through the zone that should never happen.

Looking at the schedule, UVA is gonna have a tough time getting to be #4 in the ACC and we control our remaining 3. I think it's likely that if we win out, we'll get a 4 seed and the team of those 3 that goes farther in the tournament will be dancing.
