I didn't get in the first wave. By the time I had heard that it had begun, registrations had already closed. Instead, my friend who manages a Gamestop was told by his district manager that each store was given access to the beta so the managers would be able to hype it up a bit. I just went over to his house and he let me play since he's never played any BF games before now. He did get preregistration kits for both of us, though. They come with a dogtag/flash drive which has some preview content for Command and Conquer 3 and Crysis. Wasn't really anything which blew me away, but the 64 meg flash drive is kinda nice since it's free. The kits also come with a certificate to earn a free rank unlock once the retail version of the game hits.

There are many! I saw roughly 40 last night, and each of them was 32+ players.

What amazes me about POE is the sheer detail which went into its creation. I played on a crashed helicopter rescue map last night (the name of which eludes me) in which there are NO vehicles, and the setting is in fairly dense woods. Graphically, it was insane. It's a close quarters battle, the brush provides excellent cover, and you can really ambush the crap out of a team if they aren't moving carefully. I am already crazy about the new voices and sound effects. When you're being shot at, you can really hear the bullets whiz by you.

Definitely do it. I highly recommend it. It completely blows away all other mods I've seen yet. If you're not sure, just check out the documentation on the team's website. That was one of the things which reeled me in. I like knowing what I'm getting into before I download something which is going to radically change my game. The way artillery is set up in this is pretty interesting. Definitely requires a fair amount of teamwork.

Holy SHIT. The Su-25 Frogfoot in Point of Existence is bar none the most fantastic aircraft I have flown in any Battlefield incarnation yet. That plane is pure and unrivaled tank murder. It carries an extremely high powered (and high cyclic rate) cannon, 4 dumb bombs, and 25 dumb missiles. The bombs are extraordinarily powerful, and just one can destroy a tank with a direct hit. Drop all 4 at once, though, and you can devastate an entire armored column.

It's a mobile fieldpiece which must be driven by someone (and can also be destroyed by antitank weapons). Before it can be used, another teammate must use the binoculars to "spot" a target, and then they have to use their radio to call in a strike request. If someone is driving the artillery and has a line of fire, they can shell the target repeatedly. I'm not sure about the range or cooldown yet, but it definitely can be lethal when people know how to use it. It's highly situational, and not all maps have artillery.

Eh, maybe. But not all maps have artillery, and on the ones which do it's very challenging to set up since you have to have someone spot for you every 60 seconds. Even so, the fieldpiece can still be taken out by standard AT rockets.

the weapons are nice..very powerful in my opinion which makes things more intense especially up-close and personal. what are some good servers runnin PoE? i played on a few random ones last night but the teams were completely one-sided in each server. like everyone who knew each other was on the team that kicked ass and there were never any team changes. so if anyone knows of a good one, let it be known!

I just bought a 360 and bf2 modern com. I am so used to kayboard and mouse that it will take some practice to get used to an FPS using a controller..eeeeek

I never, ever got used to it. I was overjoyed when Lik Sang partnered up with SmartJoy to create a keyboard and mouse adaptor for the Xbox. Halo instantly got about 1000 times better. I can only pray that they develop another one for the 360...

Anyway, if you haven't yet tried the Shilka in POE2, do it. I would humorously guess that the name Shilka must translate into English as "shitkicker." For a flak cannon, it has a surprisingly long range. If you can just barely see a silhouette of enemy infantry, take the shot. You'll get 'em. Pests inside a building? Take the shot, you'll clear out the whole room. And with 1200 rounds of ammo, you can go triggerhappy.

I hate how noobs complain about shotguns being overpowerd, not you persay. This is a general saying, noobles don't know how to use a rifle, so they get in close enough to get killed by a shotty, this is where shotguns really shine!

And, Axe I don't think a.a guns could everrrr be overpowerd in a b.f game, when the opposing team fills there pads up with jet pilots it's a form of natural selection

And, what are the new maps in p.o.e, I'm thinking of downloading in on l-day weekend. ( I heard it takes a while )

^ Heh. I'm guessing "guns" means he's also playing POE? Yes, the AA in POE is nothing short of amazing, and I say that even though I love flying more than anything else in Battlefield. I just think that AA should both work and yet not be overly cheesy, and it does both of these exceptionally well.

i got POE

could only find two servers

one was empty

the other was full

when i finally got in the lag was unbelievable

and i swear every single id on the other team was hacking

oh and we could only play the forest map because for some reason they set that as the default and NOBODY would vote for a new map despite complaining

it's hard to whore it, you have to have someone spot for you and the reload is slow and one at round will kill you much less a tank

Oh my God, the artillery is utterly hilarious. I can't believe how overpowered direct fire with it can be. I sat about 100m from an enemy flag and just lobbed shell after shell into the surrounding area and wound up with 29 kills in just a few minutes. It really is so much fun to use! Of course, the first round I messed with it, I had -18 team points from inadvertent TK's...

The whole "spotting" process seems pretty twitchy. I lock onto a spot (at 2x zoom) where I want the shells to drop, switch to the TACCOM, and my spot shows up on the minimap a LONG way away more often than not. Why is this?

Yah don't shoot that stuff anywhere in orbit of your teamates it will duct your points hardcore.

Yesterday I was shooting through a forest to hid from enemy anti tank fire, and I accidently hit a tree a few feet in front of me, while it killed me to say something, and it killed the friendly helicopter and jet above me to say the rest.

Not sure why I seem to not be having any problems at all with POE. I have read that many people are having lag issues, trouble finding servers, crashing, etc. I have had FAR fewer problems with POE than I have BF2 itself. I routinely come up with 150+ results for POE servers, and each of the ones I have marked as favorites are running with pings <75.

If you can find one named TeamHAF, that's an excellent server. I also seem to remember one named Brothers of War. I'll have to try to look up their IP's and be a bit more specific next time I am playing. I know that both of these are 64-person servers, and that's all I ever play anymore.
