A lot of the sandwiches over here use eggs. Give it a shot, you might like it.

Random tip:
You people need to remember that one of THE most important things to do to attain your goals is to get plenty of sleep...absolute minimum 6 hours, optimum 8+ (more if you're doing a lot of weight training). It is irreplaceable in having your body recover and make progress.
Unlike myself, who did not get enough sleep last night and had to leave the gym early because I had zero energy.

^^^ That's very true. I can tell a MAJOR difference in my lifting when I am low on sleep.
By eggs in sandwiches you mean like scrambled/fried/egg salad? I do scrambled and fried pretty often. Egg salad not so much because I haven't thought up a way to make that not all mayo-laden yet. Not that it would be hard to do if I wanted to, though. I eat a lot of any permutation of eggs as eggs (plain, veggie scrambles/omelets, in stir fry, poached on sweet potatoes, etc.) so right now I'm going to start thinking up ways to put them in other things I eat rather than just having them as eggs-with-veggies. 6/29/2010 1:40:06 PM |
ThePeter TWW CHAMPION 37709 Posts user info edit post |
More along the lines of fried eggs, like taking the egg part of an egg mcmuffin and putting it on a legit sandwich. Only reason I noticed was because I ordered what looked like "chicken barbeque" and realized soon after my first bite that it had egg in it.
Also, I've been taking a Nalgene of water with me and drinking out of it during my workouts. I refill probably 2-3 times at least in a typical gym visit. Not only do you save time from having to visit the water fountain, but you keep hydrated, which is important when lifting. I think this was mentioned earlier in the thread but its worth repeating.

Interesting. I guess I could start adding eggs to veggie sandwiches and see what happens.
I feel like in this weather it's hard to stay adequately (by my standards, anyway) hydrated even when drinking water all day long. 6/29/2010 1:49:33 PM |

i would like to reiterate that i tend to overestimate my calories taken in. i did it really bad before i started measuring and weighing stuff out (a doctor suggested i do so) i ended up overestimating by 200%! (is "by 200%" correct? or is it "by 100%"...regardless...what i thought was 1800 calories was a little under 1,000 )
no wonder my metabolism plummeted!
and by the way...i went to noodles and co. today with my boss (it was my exit interview) there goes my carbs for the whollle day.

I apologize for the previous "trolls" in this thread. The first one directed at ShinAntonio was made with good intent, as I simply trying to make clear the disastrous effects buffets have on a diet. However, as is custom with me, I was probably a bit too caustic with my verbiage, and I seem to have offended several of you. For this I am sorry.
The second example, the picture exclaiming "do it faggot" higher up on this page, was in reference to Jeepin4x4's aversion to sharing a picture of his midsection. To most users this may seem overly harsh, but he and I have a history of jovial interactions and I meant no ill will with that quip. While I don't think it offended him in the slightest, I'll leave those types of posts to Chit Chat going forward.
As far as the people telling me to post a picture of myself...I'm already in tip top shape.
From now on, I'll post only positively in this thread, or not post at all. 6/30/2010 9:30:51 AM |

Most people will tell you breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I have the same problem though in that when I first wake up I am not typically hungry. What I usually do is grab at least something like a banana or a cup of yogurt to carry to work with me because by the time I finally get here and have been up and moving then I get hungry. On days I am gonna be working out especially I try to keep a couple boiled eggs handy in the fridge to get some protein intake to start the day even if I'm not particularly hungry.
I think the idea behind it is breakfast should be your biggest meal of the day because you will have all day to use up that fuel and get it burned off and your meals should slowly be toned down over the rest of the day with snacks along the way so that by evening you have a small dinner so that you arent sleeping with a bunch of extra fuel that isnt gonna be used up and instead likely stored away. Please note I am no expert on any of this haha. 6/30/2010 10:11:07 AM |

If you go ahead and start eating breakfast in the morning, you will very quickly become hungry in the morning. Should take about a week to establish the morning hunger.
I was never hungry in the morning either until I started to eat breakfast. Your body adapts... It doesn't want to be hungry every morning so its not gonna be unless it thinks it has the potential to get some food (gross oversimplification of adaptation) 6/30/2010 10:16:28 AM |

i've found (in my personal experience of course). that as long as your calories are on target, it doesnt really matter that much about when you eat, for the most part. my breakfasts are really not that big, when i even have them. ie-i'm about to go to a spin class on an empty stomach now
but mind you this is NOT a scientific claim.
this is just something i've found from my personal experience with diet and working out

I thought another reason to eat breakfast in the morning was to go ahead and get your metabolism going. I know when you go long periods without eating, your body compensates by slowing down the metabolism so it can store more fat. I think that's suppose to go along the lines with the "5 small meals a day" thing that just keeps your metabolism at a steady rate.
I could definitely be wrong on all of those things. I personally don't eat a big breakfast, and depending on my appetite, sometimes it just consists of a shit ton of coffee. Every now and then a bowl of granola or just a protein shake. That will usually keep me until lunch. 6/30/2010 10:35:26 AM |

^ During rest period (aka. throughout the whole day while you're not pumping iron), your muscles are rebuilding... You need a constant supply of amino acids and carbs readily available to your muscles as they grow. I think it would be better to eat your calories throughout the day

Yes, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, both in terms of health, and in terms of weight-loss.
Studies show that people who eat breakfast lose more weight when dieting than those who don't. And perhaps even more importantly, studies also show that a protein breakfast means greater weight loss than a carb breakfast of equal calories!
One particular study had one group consume 2 eggs for breakfast and another group a bagel of equal calories. The egg group lost more weight.
A lot of people say that they can't eat much at breakfast, if at all. See what Solinari said if your problem is that you aren't hungry in the morning. If you do eat breakfast, but can't eat much, have 2 small breakfasts, one when you wake up, and another one a couple of hours later around 10 am. 6/30/2010 11:48:15 AM |

^ x 4 doesnt that just have something to do with binging later in the afternoon at lunch?
i dont there there is much of a biological reason to have breakfast.
isn't the whole "breaskfast boosts your metabolism for the day" a myth? i mean ANYTIME you eat your metabolism boosts.
mind you i am NOT saying people should not eat breakfast. but for example when i calorie cut, breakfast is one of the first things to get cut (not totally) b/c i could use the extra boosts throughout the day instead of in the morning.
oh yeah PS- GUESS WHOS DOWN TO 17% BODYFAT. HELL YES.

Yup, the reason is that people who skip breakfast or eat a simple carb breakfast eat more calories later in the day compared to someone who had breakfast and esp a high protein breakfast.
About it boosting your metabolism, yes, everybody says that. I would like to see studies reflecting it.
However, the point people make with that is that you have been fasting for a long time overnight, so that's why you should eat when you wake up (whether you wake up at bfast time, lunch time, or dinner time). Further to that logic, similar importance is not placed on lunch, because if you ate breakfast then you aren't fasting any more. 6/30/2010 12:08:03 PM |

It's just forming a habit, Jesse. I have the same problem with not eating breakfast but mine deals with being a diabetic. I'm the most sensitive insulin wise in the morning so I often feel pukey when I eat. But I have gotten to the point where I can eat now because I made the effort to eat and then found what helps me to be less pukey.
