I doubt that. My curiosity stems from since it HAS been asked so many times. I don't post in here a ton but I am actually working to gain weight so that I have more to work with while doing p90x. Abs are certainly a check.

That said, I may get around to posting a picture. It certainly won't be ideal, but it shows that I am not full of garbage. Plus, no one really wants to see more pictures of fairly fit "white" guys here. You either have to be a girl or MattJMM2.

Are you gaining weight doing p90x? It's a helluva lot of elevated heart rate for a hardgainer.

I've been too busy eating like a fucking champ to post. I weighed in at 175 the other day.

ATTENTION WOMEN ON THE PALEO OR OTHER LOW-CARB DIETS

I started low-carb a few weeks ago and I am spotting in the middle of my menstrual cycle for a week and a half now. Has this happened to any of you yet?

Can anyone ( med students, etc.) biologically explain this...it's probably hormonal, but I would like more in depth explaination.

Bahahaha. No been sexless for about 5 months now.

Same BC (although generic) for about 2 years now.

I googled this problem and it seems like it's common with low-carb. Just how it fucks up your hormones is what I'm interested in. Very strange.

Or it could be something else. But I haven't changed ANYTHING but my eating.

So I've come to the conclusion that it's the diet switch and my body is coping.

Because of allergies I'm low carb and I got some spotting occasionally when I was on generic birth control.

Joie I am not cutting for anything. Figure competitions just don't do it for me. Have you done those ever?

Post-breakup weight gain 10 lbs. Hahaha at least it took me 6 months and not 2 months to gain all that. And the older I get the harder it's getting! haha.

I just want to lean out a bit.

I'm neither an expert nor a female, but I have been following some paleo and low carb communities online for a few years. Here are some thoughts.

1. Paleo != low carb. There's been a pretty strong backlash against this association recently. Historically, most societies have ran rather high carb without issue (of course, a minority have consumed high fat and also been perfectly fine).

2. Hair falling out? Uh... that sounds like hypothyroidism. That could be caused by any number of things and certainly dieting, low carb, or paleo (potentially low iodine) could aggravate it. Good luck trying to get that resolved with your regular doctor.... I could speak at length about this topic.

3. You keep mentioning fucked up hormones. All I will say is I am constantly reading anecdotes about fucked up hormones and a wide variety of issues caused by BC. I'm not sure which is causing more problems here, less carbs or medically induced infertility, but I could take a guess.

4. This is probably the most honest piece on problems experienced on paleo (you won't find the same kind of honesty in some other communities): http://freetheanimal.com/2010/01/paleo-diet-problems-big-problems.html

THIS SCALE FINALLY MOVED.

After a month of sameness I am down 2 more lb.s making total weight loss 26lbs. This PROVES to me that you HAVE to listen to your body. It knows the answer more than what other people are trying to say is happening to you.

I worked out with your sister today @ Oak City CrossFit...just now figured it out (her name on the board was "Brick")

Can't really say who did better because the WOD was not timed or by rounds, but she's a beast...Every time I was finished with something I'd glance over and she'd already be resting...except on the run

so

i've had several several people ask me if ive lost wieght

the answer is no. i'm still at the same weight.

BUT my close are fitting much looser.

i know im not building muscle (i think ive lifted maybe 2-3x in the past 2 1/2 weeks?)
and my diet isn't exactly superb.

i wonder what this could be?
could i just be losing muscle?
but then to stay the same weight wouldn't i have to put on fat and isnt that much bulkier?

I'm down 5lbs in the past month, which has me right on track for 150 or lower by the end of June. I'm 5'9" and I think I want to be in the 140s as a later goal, around a size 4 or 6.

Pretty much the most awesome part of getting in shape was when I did my first 20 minute run on Couch to 5k, and seeing today that I've lost 1.5 inches off my thighs in the past month.

FWIW my resting heart rate has dropped to the high 40s in the past couple weeks. Right before lunch it was 48...a few weeks ago it was usually in the low-mid 50s.

Didn't know about this until today, but it put my mind to ease for anyone else who has low heart rates and may experience irregular heart beats: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Respiratory_sinus_arrhythmia

I've made pretty good gains in the weight room. Pretty much all of my muscles are bigger and more defined, however, I don't think I've lost an ounce of fat haha. I really have to stop eating so much. I could probably get where I want to be in a month if I would stick to my diet.

Is there any way for me to raise my blood pressure throughout the day? Mine has always been around 90/60, but now it's dropped to slightly below that ... I'm dizzy all the time. Should I just see a doctor to get on medication?

I feel best when I'm working out bc it elevates my BP.

^^^^ I used to worry about that too until a doctor told me it was a fairly common thing. Back in high school my resting pulse was down in the mid 40s, it's higher now (52 when i hadn't life insurance physical 6 months ago) but still very low compared to the general population.

Nice.

She always tries to get me to go to the Crossfit gyms when she comes down to Charleston, but I'd rather go for a run than get run into the ground working out with my sister.

I've switched to using the flatter breads recommended earlier in the thread when I asked what to do about my sandwich situation.

Between that and going back to hot sauce rather than olive oil at lunch it's a quick 300 calorie drop.

Calipers are pretty cheap and a decent way to measure progress. Like most methods the number itself may not be accurate, but it will accurately track your progress as you lose fat or put on muscle.

Any good recommendations for a heart rate monitor/ calorie counter.

My gym has the bodybug and fitbit bit I don't want to be logging everything I eat on the computer everyday.

I've got a Polar FT2 that I'm pretty happy with.

Calorie counting seems vary wildly depending on which tool you use. According to the elliptical at the gym I'll burn 725+ calories in 30 minutes. According to the Polar HRM that same workout will be closer to 450. I just assume they're both wrong and knock 25% off whatever the Polar says.

I have a similar problem...mine is about 100/50 usually. I have had it measured as low as 96/45. I've passed out cold on the gym floor before when doing Crossfit, and had to feel my way along a wall and lay down on the floor another time when my vision and sense of equilibrium totally went away (although I was still conscious, barely). My. tolerance for pulling "g" in the jet really sucks--I have to strain hard just to pull 4-6g, when other people do it without straining much, if any. I don't know if this last one is related, but sometimes I have a bitch of a time with blood draws...if they have to take a whole bunch of vials from me, they often have to stick me with the needle in several different spots to get it all.

I've talked to a couple of docs...they've told me that it's not a concern unless I'm getting dizzy and fainting. I've had those couple of incidents, and I get a little lightheaded sometimes if I stand up too quickly, but it's not a big enough deal for me to be all that concerned.

The biggest thing I've found is to stay really well hydrated, so as to increase my blood volume.

I have low blood pressure too and also have a big problem with getting blood drawn. And a couple weeks ago I donated and the thing kept beeping at me because I wasn't bleeding fast enough. The only time it ever seems to get to me is if I haven't eaten in a while and go running. Then I get lightheaded and my vision gets spotty. Or at least I assume that's related somehow. I don't know any ways to raise it other than doing things you are told not to do like eating too much salt and being sedentary, which I don't think is going to work for you.

Unfortunately, eating salt won't necessarily help raise your blood pressure. And I'm sedentary a good amount of the day since I'm a writer.

I stopped giving blood after an incident where I fainted four times, including a couple of times alone in my house where I was lucky that I didn't hurt myself falling.

I'm lightheaded almost every time I stand, so much that everything gets very dark and it takes me a couple of seconds to see again and focus. I stopped running outside because I'm afraid that I'll pass out on a trail and not be found for a while. Now I run solely on tracks or treadmills bc it just feels safer.

So, see a doctor? Or is there anything else I can do before resorting to see a doc?

I can sometimes feel like I'm going to faint when I stand up really quickly. It's like the world starts to close in and I'm looking through a tunnel. I can usually take a deep breath and the tunnel will expand until everything is back to normal. I guess I might be affected by low BP too. I think it was 115/74 the last time I checked, but that was in Sam's Club where I usually have to restrain myself from yelling at people and ramming carts out of my way.
