IIRC, it was only CJL and RH, Zo wasn't there.
There's pics of it, probably in this thread is there a way to look at page 200 (for example) without having to click dozens of times? 9/11/2015 11:31:01 AM |

I wouldn't call it a "package deal" unless they all commit at the same team...or at least really close to each other (several days) and actually say something along the lines of "package deal".
Anything else and it's just, "I really want to play with that dude because he's fucking nasty and can pass me the ball."9/11/2015 11:38:45 AM |

people talking about Sammy's starting on p 144 of this thread
apparently harrow was the only one who signed at Sammy's that day. CJL was in attendance but had decommitted by that time (and would recommit later) but Zo must not have been there
^from what i've read, that latter seems to be more accurate. not a "i'm going where he goes" but a "we are both really good at basketball and if we wound up at the same school that'd be really good"

Harrow signed at Sammy's pretty early that recruiting cycle and then CJL did later towards the end of April or May 2010 IIRC. Zo was committed from the previous year already, but had to spend a year at Hargrave.
If we land Bam we're stacked for 2016-2017 in terms of experience and talent. If we land someone else (like Atkins) then that would increase the talent level, but I think one or two Wong players transfer - although that might happen anyway. Henderson, Rowan, Martin 1, Martin 2, Kirk and Dorn on the wings is already pretty full.
I feel like we land Bam and then stay involved with a few others to have an insurance policy based on Abu/Anya leaving early or a wing transferring out.

just looking at the roster of likely players to leave early...Abu could have a strong season and go pro and it seems like Cat going pro is pretty likely. I don't see any rising senior like Anya or Freeman transferring out and Anya might have pro potential, but he's yet to show it on the court. Dorn and Henderson aren't transferring since they've already transferred once. The Martins would probably be a package deal...either they both leave or both stay. And the wings are pretty deep, so them leaving could be a possibility. Kirk seems like another wing player that could possibly transfer, but he is supposedly close with Dennis Smith Jr and Bam and I'd imagine that'd be a factor in him wanting to play with them.
I think it is safe to assume we have some turnover...something like 1/3 of all players transfer in basketball. And we've definitely had our share of transfers. So I don't expect it to be a perfect storm of every eligible player returning and also getting one of the nation's best classes. But 16-17 is shaping up to be a really fun season regardless. 9/11/2015 12:19:27 PM |

I can see Henderson leaving like Trevor did. I don't think he's quite as good as Trevor, but if he has a great year...then that's great for us (this current year of course).
For some reason there is some buzz around the program that Anya thinks he can leave after this year. Again...I see it as a "its great because that means he'll have a great year for us"...but I'm not sold on that happening. I think there is a greater chance of Abu leaving before Anya...but Abu just doesn't come off as a guy that's dying to get into the league.
Freeman isn't going anywhere. That guy is a 4-year player all the way.
Dorn isn't going to transfer to sit out for another year...unless he magically graduates in three years and does the graduate transfer thing. Highly unlikely.
The guys I worry about are the Martins and Kirk. Kirk should know he has to put in some time and work to play, but you never know these days. I'm just hoping the Martins are so bad-ass that they will be starting regardless. The questions is will they be okay with freshmen coming in and getting some major burn. They'll also be upperclassmen by the time '16 rolls around...so hopefully they'll just want to stick it out.
My slightly optimistic prediction is that one of the Anya/Abu tandem goes pro...and maybe Henderson. Kirk might be the only possible transfer. So hopefully we get Bam and another big man for depth...and another guard in case we lose Kirk and maybe a twin (I don't think the twins follow each other if one is blowing up and the other is struggling with PT). 9/11/2015 12:27:24 PM |

apparently a media member was present when Gott took the helicopter to visit DSJR. that's a violation. obviously, a really minor violation and we won't get in trouble for this. but a stupid rule, imo. especially with so many bloggers and online media outlets now...it seems difficult to determine who exactly is a media member.
http://www.greensboro.com/sports/accxtra/gottfried-s-visit-to-smith-with-journalists-present-might-be/article_13d3ea18-2424-5fcb-8c17-c4137a4c5881.html
Quote : | "
According to the NCAA, that’s where Gottfried could have committed a violation. NCAA rules do not allow coaches to have any recruiting contact in the presence of media representatives. State officials say the coaches weren't aware journalists were present. " |
Quote : | "N.C. State didn’t alert the media that Gottfried would be visiting Smith. Gottfried posted a picture on Twitter from the helicopter cockpit and wrote that he was going recruiting, but that is allowed by NCAA rules. Steve Shults, N.C. State's assistant athletics director for compliance, said the coaches were not aware that journalists were present. According to Strelow's story, a small crowd of people gathered to see Gottfried's helicopter land. "In our situation, the media member was present without our knowledge or involvement," Shults wrote by email. "Had our coaches known media was present, then they would have ended the contact immediately in order to avoid a violation."" |
