It was a modified shoulder drop with a bit of a stutter step thrown in, but not one huge fake like normal.

Please don't jump on the John Forsland bandwagon. There were a few calls that were marginal but he blows shit way out of proportion. It was poorly officiated on both sides.

The trip on Slewey that led to the third goal was pretty horrendous, as was Fata's dive.

Meh.

^If you look at the replay the guy got the puck and glen tripped over himself. Wasn't a penalty. The Fata dive was pretty lame but he was still slashed.

Commodores unsportsmanlike was deserved and the hold looked worse than it probably was. He has to know if he takes his hand off his stick its gonna get called. Same with Kaberle's penalty.

Most of the Canes' penalties were deserved, yes, including Weight's slash. I just can't believe that they didn't call a dive when Fata hit the deck for a slash on a stick AND threw his gloves in the air on the way down.

I watched the Wesley replay a number of times, and I still think the guy got a good piece of the skate. I still can't believe that dude fanned in the SO.

On to Friday!

Yeah I agree Fata was lame but its hard to call the dive. Who is to say he didnt just get him right on the bone or something. It looked like a well placed slash. But cmon this is the nhl they can play through worse. Hopefully Fata gets the diving rep.

you're a fucking idiot if you couldn't see that that "slash" was stick on stick. they showed the replay several times ffs.

^No I am pretty sure it hit his wrist. Even if he does hit his stick it can still be called a slash though. (Usually only happens when the stick gets knocked out of the hands)

Ottawa lost to Montreal in regulation tonight. If the Canes win tomorrow they will move into a tie for first place, and Carolina has the tiebreaker (wins). Ottawa would have a game in hand, though.

I was looking at both Ottawa's and Carolina's schedule last night, and although ours isn't a cakewalk, I could see Ottawa dropping perhaps 3 of their last 7 games (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/hockey/nhl/schedules/2005/senators/)...if not more, seeing that they've been struggling a bit lately.

I'd be fine taking first in the conference...as long as Atlanta isn't the 8th seed

I think ATL is out altogether....id rather not play them or Tampa Bay....Montreal would be a good first round team to play....I am pretty sure we swept the season series with them.

we did sweep MON, and hardly any of the 240 minutes of game time were competitive

MTL is a giant killer in the first rounds of the playoffs though. I'm not sure it would be fun to play them.

Montreal is definitely a favorable matchup on paper for the Canes, but at this point I definitely wouldn't want to see them. They've won 8 in a row, and Cristobal Huet is an absolute monster. He has 7 shutouts, which is second in the league. The catch is, he's only played 33 games. Atlanta's only realistic hope of getting in was beating Tampa Bay in their last two games against them to gain 4 points on them, but they lost last night in overtime, so that really hurts their chances. I would look for New Jersey to fall fast at the end, as their schedule is extremely difficult.

Fuck the NHL schedule. We get to see SE division teams until we're sick of them, but some western conference teams we don't play for years. Balance them out.

[Edited on April 7, 2006 at 6:17 PM. Reason : but when you're the best team of the division, guess it doesn't matter]
