I would imaging that the same jail broken app would have incurred these fees? It's basically the same thing I hear. I guess we'll find out.. i'm not worried though.

Unless you use the hell out of it there shouldn't be a problem with netshare, just using it to occasionally tether to your iphone when you can't get wifi is not going to set off any alarms at AT&T

I use my iPhone hardcore for internet access...so i don't see how tethering will be different

then you'd be just wrong. they can tell the difference.. I honestly don't know how, but evan explained it once.. they seriously can tell and can/will charge you for it at some point

how is using Pandora 24/7 on my iphone going to be different then using Pandora on my laptop tethered via my iphone 24/7? besides the initial page load.

they can tell when you're tethering--i don't know how they know but they can and they also can charge you extra for doing it. some people (on other phones) have gotten huge bills for tethering even though they had an unlimited data plan bc they got greedy and used it too much. maybe this app is different and somehow makes it so that they can't--but i wouldn't count on it

AT&T does not have unlimited data for any phone. There's an unofficial 4-5 Gbyte cap on it. I asked someone at the store, and a tech person on the phone. It's basically to prevent users from tethering and using p2p clients.

^^in your case don't worry. It doesn't matter if the phone is tethered or not, if you go over the data cap you get charged whether it's hooked up to a computer or not. I doubt pandora will go over the 5gig limit each month or whatever it is.

I've gotta figure out if I want to upgrade to 2.01 on my unlocked and jailbroken 2G phone. As I understand it, my phone will remain unlocked, but the apps I loaded through Cydia won't work anymore until a new hack comes along.

Is 2.01 much better than 2.0?

So my wife and i have the family talk 700 plan.

It looks like We can add 1 line (an iPhone 3g) to our existing 2 lines, and that line will get the discounted price!!... I was thinking there was no way for me to get it for less than 400.

My sister in law is going to take my phone and share our minutes for 9.99 a month, and I am going to port my number over to the 3g device!!

So Stoked!!

so, my maps app is fucking up all to hell. i was in Tennessee earlier and was searching for the grand ole opry.. it came up the list of places fine then locked up. i've reset the phone but anytime i open the app up it comes back up to the screen of search results and nothing works except the home button. i've tried leaving it sitting there for 20 mins or so (it did this once earlier then i let it sit and it started working again..) and still no dice. looks like i'm going to have to restore the damn thing just because of this

yea that sucks. i mean, i'd even be more ok with that since that's kind of a google maps problem..but this whole locking up and having to waste an hour restoring from a backup from yesterday is just ridiculous. i've been all for the iphone but i am really pissed about this. i sure as hell hope they fix this problem on the next update

^you can. We do that at work so that our videos play on iphones. Its just a matter of what codec the video is and if its trying to play it in flash or quicktime. Most sites just use a flash player so obviously it won't work on the iphone regardless of what the original video file is. Other sites let the browser chose if it will play in quicktime or a flash player.

portal allows you to use flash on your iphone...from what i've read. But its kind of cheating because its pretty much a remote desktop.

also...blackjack and texas hold'em are my two favorite apps...... especially over wifi during meetings when you're playing against your co-workers haha

I ask because I got one of those clear acrylic cases of ebay and holy shit it sucks. It fits well and seems sturdy, but if ANY grit gets in between the plastic and phone, the next time you remove the case it will bite into the plastic and leave tiny "holes" in the plastic.

I think any cases that forces dust/grit into contact with the back of the phone could cause this, I was intentionally careful when removing the case....

I think I'm gonna try to find some sort of soft slipcase or something of that nature. The back of the thing is soft as butter.

It's still taking a while to get everything ported over to 2.0. Right now the main things that you're missing out on are Intelliscreen and Winterboard (a summerboard replacement that allows you to theme your icons, font, etc)

My iPhone 3g with 2.01 locks up like it's its job. Then sometimes it just refuses to run applications, they all begin to start up and then kick me back out the home screen before actually starting and it requires restarting the phone before any of the apps will work

i even tried it today with the bollywood music they play on 88.1... i mean i don't know if they got it right, but it came up with an indian name so i'm just gonna go ahead and trust it...

what's crazy to me is that it will pick up songs so quickly. like i pressed tag during the intro of a song where all you hear is a few snares (nothing else that would distinguish it) and it still got it right away.

i got my iphone 2.0 here in Australia last week. no visual VM kinda sucks, but i guess don't have many ppl here to call me and leave a vm so its no biggie My gf had a 2G iphone and this is quite nice. 3G here in the city is quite snappy and i always get really good reception. I havent seen below 3 bars yet, and i have full 5 bars probably 75% of the time. I'm stilling running 2.0 because i don't have the internet at home yet. the GPS is also works quite well. The 3G does feel much more secure in your hand. The stickier plastic, plus the less top heavy weight distro is great.

It seems like since I updated to 2.0.1, I haven't had as many app crashes or lock ups but I have had quite a few more dropped calls. Like I will be in areas where I have 2-3 bars, and for some reason the calls drop. Data seems to work fine in those areas though.
